just wondering if anyone has a fair idea of where in the draft he will go? some people have him going around the 15-20 mark and others have him +30. surely with his efforts in the waafl colts grand final will push him up a bit. also do you reckon the dockers would be interested in him with our 2nd ppick at 20?

There is no doubting that Fyfe is an exciting talent, but I would question whether he would be a priority.

The comparison at the moment seems to be Brett Burton. But Burton always does his best when he is the third tall up forward, not when he is the focal point. I don't think we really have the targets up forward to play Fyfe in the attacking role he's best suited to.

We have more pressing needs at our second round pick - skillful midfielders and key forwards. If we could somehow land Black with our second rounder, and then get another second rounder from somewhere though....

Might just get to 190cm doesn't really matter as he isn't a true key position player (Like Burton, Jurrah, Josh Hill)

Might go second round because of the Grand Final.... if so good on him. I hope he is still available at 36, he strikes me as a guy they could slide.

I'm ok with putting my faith in the BB Gun as our developing 3rd tall anyway. He reminds me a bit of J-Lo and gods knows how much I miss him.

Agree with c25, I like him, but not with our pick 20 imo (we should be targeting a kp or midf) ... he is v.good at what he does (3rd tall) but would only be the icing on a good fwd line structure rather than one of the central components. Maybe if we get another 2nd rounder or he slips to our pick 36 (seemingly unlikely) ...

what about Blayne Wilson from peel thunder? he was the all australian full back at the under 18s but he doesnt seem to a very big kid. where do you think he would go and seeing as we dont have any young key defenders either we may be interested in him

Good medium defender prospect. Not eligible this draft, but will either be taken by GC17 this year or drafted next.

I think we should be looking at Aaron Black with pick 20, if he is still available

george, there's not a hell of a lot out there that I'm sold on ...

Talia would be the best KPD in the draft and will probably go somewhere b/w 5-15 ... a little laconic, but a good athlete, very mobile, reads the play well, tidy skills by foot and works hard ... should develop into a Sam Fisher-style run off defender.

Carlisle is another that could be a potential 1stR selection (late) will probably be in the 10-20 range. Can play both ends (I've seen him mostly as a fwd, but apparently has played quite well in def too), good oh grab, good by foot and seems to ready the play well. Athletically I he may be a little lacking (accel and agility wise) for defence ... will get a closer look at him in the TAC Cup GF on this Friday arvo.

Fitzpatrick perhaps could be moulded into a key defender (although I see him more as a FF atm), is as tall as most rucks, very mobile and has some impressive athletic qualities but is super green. Will probably be around our 2ndR mark.

Then you've got guys like Luff and Astbury that will probably go 3rdR and later, both solid, smart players (prefer Astbury due to his versatility), but I wouldn't earmark them as key defenders due to their lack of height (both listed at 193), athleticism (neither great athletes) and builds (both listed at 80kg).

imo the best genuine key defensive prospect I've seen this year at u18s is Sam Day, unfortunately too young unfortunately and will probably go high 1stR next year.

Forgot about him, Lach ... whether he can play kpd still seems a bit unknown, but he'll be a good athletic project that already has some of the key tools ... maybe latish 2ndR, but most likely 3rdR for mine (depending on how it pans out, I wouldn't mind us using our 3rdR on him and would def prefer him to Luff).

I tell you what, if Burton was half the player Fyfe was...

I went to that colts GF and vividly remember Fyfe's game. Whilst he was one of the skinnier players, he was absolutely everywhere. Just on that one performance, I was stoked when we picked him up but never would've thought he'd turn into the beast that he is.

Interesting to consider where he'd be placed amongst his draft peers who've played in excess of 70 games:

This was the draft in which we picked up Morabito with pick 4. Sydney took Rohan with pick 6. Hopefully 2014 will be the year for these two talented but perpetually injured players because they've both dazzled at times.

Also worthy of a ramble: 9 out of the top 50 players taken are no longer on an AFL list. Change it to the top 60 and it's 17/60 who've been delisted. This is an interesting reality when considering the argument about late picks. I'd love to know more about clubs' rookie list philosophy in light of this. For example, why did Freo pick up Crichton, Bollenhagen or even Houghton before Michael Barlow or even Alex Silvagni, who were both taken in 2009's rookie draft? Essendon took Ben Howlett with rookie draft pick 30. Whist he has played 76 games since, Anthony Long was taken in the ND with pick 33 and was delisted before playing a game. I wonder if in some cases a player's age blinkers recruiters' outlook.

It appears out of the listed players, we got the best of the lot in Fyfe. Retrospectively, he's realistically the best pick up of the entire draft. I'd have to say Dusty is a runner up, and could potentially have been a better pick up or at least as damaging (you'd hope so given he's a top 3 selection) if not for the (reported) lazy attitude to training. Lewis Jetta rounds out the top 3 for mine. Well done Freo recruiters. Although they're not listed, Morrabito and Rohan if not for their injuries would potentially make up the best 5 picks in the draft. Cunnington, has also been cut down with injury and I can remember being keen on him prior to draft day.

Black would have been a worthy pick and he was available. He is going to be a very good player. Not in Fyfe's league as Fyfe is elite, legend, superstar good but we would be happy with him I think.
North did well here as Cunnington is a very serviceable player also.
If we can get Mora on the park it will have been a superb draft for us too. Well it is anyway even if Fyfe was all we got!

You can throw in Menzel as well
