And the exact opposite has occurred on the Nth side. Went from being the next messiah to a squib that couldn't win his own ball. The vent thread on the Nth board made for some fun reading.
Gaff said all along that he was undecided but a few North fan boys decided to come up with inside sources saying that he was going to North, maybe next time don't believe idiots on the internet.

Trade time brings out the best and worst in every supporter of any club.
I think North Melbourne posters regularly concont stories of players wanting to join their club to artificially inflate the relevance of their club.
There's no way that Dusty, Kelly and Gaff were all 'hours from signing' only to renege at the last second. Pretty tragic.

And that they want him to be targeted and hurt for not wanting to leave his friends. One even hypothesised that Gaff will regret it if anything happens to his father. Disgusting supporter base.

I never understand why people get so worked up about potential trades and free agent signings.
People seem to care about all this shit more than the actual games themselves.
Who cares if Gaff stays or goes? He is a good footballer, but he isn't the difference between winning or losing. He led the Eagles in all the awards at the time of his suspension, but the Eagles powered through the Finals Series without him and won the flag. So he can't have been that vital. Just a dime-a-dozen midfielder. Dom Sheed stepped up in his absence and played just as well.

Winning a flag doesn't mean everyone who wasn't in the team isn't a vital part of us getting there or couldn't improve the team.
Wouldn't have been top two without Gaff.

Didn't read much of that personally, but definitely saw that after we missed out on Martin, so I don't doubt it.

It was in reply to a poster saying how WC fans have suddenly changed our tune. We haven't. We didn't need him to a win a flag, thats just pure fact. But not saying we aren't a better team without him either. Both facts are true.

Woot! Glad he is staying. Still has a lot of football left in him. Might frustrate our trade hand with guys like Tim Kelly, Lobb and Roughead, but retaining Gaff has to be the priority there. Seems buddies with Shep, so maybe they can both spur each other on.
Part of me is glad to see the end of Lycett. Been a useful player for us, but has often irritated me. Never quite developed, or ironed out his deficiencies. Right time to part ways, and best of luck to him at Port. Hope he finds more success, but the trade time was right, we've got a flag from him, and will be glad to see the back-end of his obligatory dropped marks. Profit on pick no.29, and players get where he wants (a bit like Brad Ebert).

If Gaff is as big of a squib as the North board are now saying he is, you'd want to sack the footy department that offered him $1.2mil a year for seven years.

I must admit ive become a skeptic during this saga. The father was mentioned countless times and i think it was used as ammo for a move back to vic (and nmfc).

I'll agree we coped with the loss well, but Sheed doesn't have the endurance or the foot skills to take his spot long term. Remember Gaff regularly racks up 17+ kms in games with more than 90% TOG.
