It is time that North reverts to a more attacking style of play. The current method of switching play, in the backline which has what seem to be very jittery players overusing the ball which inevitably leads to errors which generally results in opposition scores,is flawed.North has always played its best football when it plays direct and allows our forwards to at least complete on a one to one basis.A more direct style would reduce the opposition's ability to clog our forward line. The majority of sides that have won premierships have played attacking style football.Let's throw caution to the wind and aim the ball towards our forward line for a change. An attractive style of play might actually attract more people to the games.

i think they have thats why we have conceded over 100 points in 3 games already compared to last year only 5 in total. Seems the game plan is from 2013 again.

I don't think we are.

I would love to see a heat map of where we are using the ball and a breakdown of handball:kick ratio.

If you do not own the centre coridoor then you are playing catch up the whole game.

It was Hawthorn's short kicking that did us in.

We would do 3-4 handballs under pressure, move the ball 20m to flat footed non-runners, lose possession.

Then they would kick the ball 25m and undo any good work that had occured. This happened time and time again.

Good teams use the centre, old/slow/poor teams play the flanks and bomb the ball into the forward 50.

I will leave it up to you to decide which we are, but it is not looking good.

BTW, WTF is our most creative ball user taking the kick ins for? Such a waste.

I think we have missed a beat in relation to the game style planning for 2015. I don't think that we expected the forward pressure to lift as much as it has and as a consequence have been caught on the hop by the better teams (hence the Boomer to the back flank reaction). The pressure may drop off a tad as the season progresses or we may adjust accordingly, but I'm not sure that we have the cattle to return fire outside the direct contest right now due to a lack of pace in the squad. As a consequence we are forced to look to move the ball back and around the pressure but don't have the skills for most of the time. When the game opens up we can be dangerous through the middle but we then expose our defence on the rebound.

To play an attacking game through the guts we need a list of flankers and mids with pace and agility so that we can minimise the damage when we lose possession by applying direct pressure to the ball carrier and stifling space for his team mates to receive and run. Right now I don't think we have enough of that in our team.

In short this early in the year when the pace or intensity is really up we don't have the list to handle the pressure of the best teams and return fire accordingly, however we will handle the lower teams reasonably well as they all have issues with players and structure. As the year drags on we will be more competitive however whether or not we will then be able to ratchet it up for finals is another matter.
