Great work TWL. A summation without the hysteria. A relief to read after some of the other posts. Should have manned up before the first bounce. Hugging the flanks doesnt work against the zone. Reality has reared its ugly head and bit quite a few complacent arses.....Pretty disappointing result really, i thought we played just OK, but when it boils down to it, were beaten by the better side on the day...who were prepared to run, carry and take the game on. .....
I'll make it quick -
Thomas was good - his brilliance kept us in the game
Pendlebury was good - his skills helped us alot around the stoppages
John Anthony - Jebus can this guy take a contested mark - superb in front of goals - he beat Rutten IMHO
Cox - his dash and rebound out of half back was very good - needs to learn to shack a tag as it kept him relatively quiet in the second half
Leon - he was fantastic in the second half - why didn't MM play him in the middle from the first bounce?
Cloke - His kicking for goal was very good but needs to do more
Game style - why did we handpass so often in the first half of the match?
Another 2nd 1/4 win after a flat effort in the first.
Is there any reason Mick can't stay on the ground up to the bounce then run for the Coaches box, they seem to do so much better when he has had the "last minute pump up."
Since Bryan is fairly limited skills wise shouldn't he just bash the ball forward like Brisbane used to.
We seemed to over posses by hand in the first 1/4 and parts of the rest of the game, but I thought significantly on occassions it was pretty effective. More time for it to become second nature and be the more Modern game.
Should have just played man on man.

This incessant handpassing is, according to some, the new "big thing" in football. Personally I would rather play our style of game, Collingwood being the least handballing side in 07-08, but supposedly we have to develop this style to have a chance to match the Geelongs and Hawthorns rolling zones and high posession running games.
If in fact that is the case then it may take a few games, real games that is, to get the game plan working efficiently.
As I have said , personally I don't like it, but if it does reap some reward soon it is worth the effort.
I won't lose too much sleep over the loss as I do and always will rate Adelaide as worthy opponents and we were not "pantsed" by any means. The points would have been good but maybe the experience was more valuable.

When the crows implemented their zone, all our forwards followed. Leaving the forward 50 vacant, So rather than trying to spread the Crows we gave them the ability to move further up the ground!
When we managed to break the zone, we were left to pump the ball to a player that was sprinting back with the flight of the ball,
Hopefully Rocca can be a true stay at home full forward when he returns
We cant beat the zone we hard running man on man LONG KICKING football, not this bullshit short kick handpass 5 times in a circle then kick then repeat bullshit

A lot of them do overract over thereJesus look at all this Daisy bashing over on Nick's:

Someone said that he is overrated and he would rather have Xavier Ellis!
They are obviously angry about the loss, but far-out don't take it out on Daisy because he was one of our best.
And if you can't see that he had a great performance then get ****ed!
LOL...So true. Here is what I got out of today (just watched it again for some reason...or that's right, 6 cans)
- JA - can mark, can kick, can be a very dangerous player for us this year
- enough of the boys showed enough to reinforce the pre-season hopes I had for a good year. It is Rd1 and it wasn't a spanking (unlike a couple of weeks ago!)
- the CFC coaching staff must have serious potential injury concerns about the centre of the MCG...and every other ground we play on. Or it is a game plan to get closer to the supporters. or the boys boots are leased and they need to do a certain number of KMs each week. Why else would we not go anywhere near the corridor???
- 2 year olds don't care if we win or lose, they are happy to wear thier pies shirts!
- why did I make Dids my SC skipper!!!!
- Adelaide are a pretty good side who will cause a fair few sides a fair few problems this year...and they have some very handy younguns coming through
- my kids now blame the umpires or Ben Johnson for everything wrong in the world...and I am pretty comfortable with that
- thank GOD we have the Dees next week, and I hope we grow some and pick Beams and Sidebottom and Heater is fit to get the season rolling
- thank God no Corws fans know where Canberra is
When we got back into the game we kicked twice as much as we handpassed, we are not a handpassing side and dammit Malthouse stop trying to turn us into one just because its the fad thing to do.

And it doesnt have to necessarily be corridor only football eitherSo it's not just me then. I hate this stupid handball round-a-bout the game is on. Nothing looks better or is as effective as "possession long kick, mark, handball to running player long kick to open goal square, goal."
And it doesnt have to necessarily be corridor only football either
Handpassing consistently is only effective if you can do it through the corridor, by passing to either someone in front or running past you.
Kicking always moves you forward
And no its not you, i may of been brought up with old fashioned football i dunno, but to me man on man all over the ground plus hard running and long kicking is the best game plan every time
yep when it works its basically unstoppable, no one can outrun the ball in mid airAND..................how bloody good is it when we get it right.
The first goal in the 1st quarter and the first in the third too I believe 15-17 seconds from tap to celebration.
p.s. both Pendles and Daisy are guns.

The thing is he is good at those banana kicks, but I agree that he should work on it. And some of the trash that they posted was ridiculous! They are right though, he does need to learn to kick on his left. It is an embarrassment seeing him consistently banana'ing the ball every time he is caught on his wrong side.
He could get away with it around the goals, but if he wants to spend more time in the midfield he needs to pull his mug out of all the media work he does and get out on the track and practice it.
Top 5 draft picks should be kicking on both feet, it is pretty poor IMO.
Was our Problem last year where we would get dominated like that but also we dominated them for parts and we just can't keep the Pressure up for more then a Quater and a bitSomething that hasn't been brought up is that in the periods of the game that they really took it to us they just ran a heap harder then we did. It is strange considering how many of our guys apparentally ran p.b's in preseason. My GF who doesn't know too much about football right throughout the first quater kept asking me "why is there always more of them around the ball" the answer is simply they ran harder to get to every contest. They also ran harder to zone back and foward to create. When we matched them in effort we beat them on the scoreboard unfortunately our effort was not mantained across four quaters.
