Reading Bomber Blitz earlier, Sheeds was on the Radio this mornin, amoungs other things he said he was going to have a chat to Gairdner to "see what he was about"

There is absolutely no harm in talking to ALL prospective recruits.
just because you are meeting with some , doesnt mean you will draft/trade for them.
I would be disapointed if after the season we have had, we were not looking at EVERY player who is available.

I also think that if we were really keen on him, Sheeds wouldn't be announcing it, but trying to keep it quiet

Agreed.

Depends on exactly what else Sheeds has in store, too. If as some have said above, Sheeds is considering trading Laycock and/or Cartlige, it could be a reason to speak to him.

Given Sheedy's recent recruiting of 'good guys' to the club and clearing out of the likes of zantuck last year I wouldnt Gardiner fits the criteria.

This is true. If you were watching the 5th quater on channel 10 you would have seen footage of sheedy and gardiner meeting.

i too would be annoyed if he was in me next year.

be terrible if we did pick him up, but maybe he'd be more prone to take the ruck at the start of each quarter, something that captain hille shies away from.

That is certainly a possibility, but with Keating and Spider available, i think it's unlikely.
I think we will need to wait until trade week to see the true story

Im very hesitant on Gardiner....if we get him for nothing and pay him bottom dollar, could be worth a punt...but a 2 year contract at best. Very cautiously tho, Id hope they're looking at other discarded ruckmen first before zeroing in on Gardiner...much more riskier than some of our other senior pickups i.e Zantuck, Cupido, Allan, etc

He can be a good player, but can't say I'm sad to see him leave.
Maybe he can focus more on his game in Melbourne and Hille could do with some help.

I'd take him on based on a decent medical report. Give him a 2 year deal on a performance based contract and see how he goes.
