STOP TREATING US LIKE FOOLS!

Come out with it Garry, you are either a :

Twit who doesn't know anything about the game for picking the worst coach of all time.

You chose Bailey only due to the fact that he was the cheapest coach available or

You are a genius for picking the worst coach of all time so we can recieve all the high draft picks so you can have a good list to work with when you take over as coach.

Come clean Garry you owe it to the fans.

Back in 2007 Baliey's plan would of been to transform the list over, to get a whole lot of young players into the club and then take us back up the ladder, he has succeeded in the first part, I think every Melbourne supporter would be happy with our list, but he is struggling to take us back up the ladder, I don't think Garry Lyon or the rest of the board that chose Bailey would of wanted us in the situation we are in now.

And I don't think Garry Lyon will be our next coach, does he even want to coach, why didn't he apply last time, he has a successful media career now and hasn't been involved inside a football club since 1999.

I don't think Garry had the say in the coaching process you seem to be inferring.
Yes he did along with Walls, Healy and Burke. Surely the board didn't go enny meany minny mo.

The board would have went with any coach that Lyon wanted. He is a god down there and deservedly so, he was a champion.

As an outsider it is hard to make head or tail of what is happening at Melbourne. Yes, they have a good list but are playing without intensity. I'm not sure if that is the coaching or the players have just thought it was all just going to happen for them without having to put the effort in. You do miss Bates as he puts some mongrel into the team. The retirement of MacDonald hasn't helped either as he had that hard body and never give in attitude.
You have a lot of "pretty" skilful players but need a couple more hard nuts to get the correct balance.

It was always a big call saying they would be finalists so soon as it puts pressure on a young side.

It will happen. Just be patient.

Garry is media soft now and hasn't been involved for a decade as said above. He should not coach.

Garry is a legend who is still as passionate about the club as he always has been. "Soft" is not a word I'd ever use to describe Gazza Lyon because he is a champion and a gentleman who has nothing more than the clubs best interests at heart. Have you even met the man?

Here here. Can't believe you flogs jumping on him like this, until thursday night almost every single one of you thought Bailey was the right man. I don't think he should be coach either, but doesn't deserve being slagged like that.

Lyon isn't a clown like some think but I would be absolutely gobsmacked if he:

1) Put his hand up

2) Was actually given the gig

We have all heard Gary Lyon say he is not interested in coaching but, has the media ever asked him about his response if MFC offered him the coaching job???

He is a very smart cookie (like Hird), who I get the feeling is waiting to be courted...

Lyon and Hird are quite different though. Lyon has set up his business interests mostly in footy media - and they are pretty massive. Footy Show, Footy Classified, Triple M and newspaper columns. If he switched to coaching he would have to say goodbye to all of those roles. They are ongoing and relatively secure and very highly paid. I think he prefers the lower stress lifestyle too.

Hird didn't have to give up nearly as much to try coaching. His business interests outside footy are still viable even while he coaches - of course he gave up some smaller things and reduced his role in the others. He didn't lose his stake in them though.

So Lyon's risk factor is much greater than Hird's. If Hird fails as a coach, he steps right back into most of his old jobs. If Lyon fails, his media jobs are held by others and he can't win them back because he would have lost the credibility he needs.

Garry definitely likes visibility. If the TFS and FC were both axed though, the coaching gets a whole lot more interesting...

Clever post Ando.

Hirds company 'Gemba' also recently didnt win a contract involving a 'tennis world cup' that would have been extremely lucrative. Once that was off the cards, he took a serious path towards coaching.

I agree that Lyon has a greater risk than Hird because of footy related jobs that end rather than Hird just stepping back while still owning/having some input. But I think you are over-emphasizing it, ever heard of Tim Watson? Spent about 6 years in the media, 2 (1 & 1/2 ) years coaching & then jumped right back into the media for 10 years & counting since

Obviously he might not get the same job/s if some else is in the role, but I think having coached makes him even more qualified & interesting as a AFL media commentator because of the experience.

It really comes down to if he would want the pressure & would take the pay cut (if there was one). All reports say he likes the leisurely life the media allows him to live, but doing 2 shows & then commentating would still keep him pretty busy seeing 2 would have preparation involved each week. Obviously it's not the same time consuming job of being a coach, but he's still a busy person

I'm not sure personally on Lyon, but the question has always remained. If the right people in the media really believed that he was no chance to ever do it, they'd stop asking. Yet I think he's now closer than ever & also has some experience with the AIS/VIC country u16s. I think it's a better chance than many people suspect

Years back after Daniher left he said he wasn't interested in coaching as he didn't love the game enough.
He also went on to say that he would never coach the club he loved (Melbourne). He used KB as an example with his time at Richmond as to why he wouldn't ever coach the Dees
