Can I just ask what exactly the problem is with Ayres?

In 9.5 seasons of coaching at AFL level he made the finals 5 times.
Coached 223 games for 120 wins 102 losses 1 draw.
Took over at the Crows after Blight left and took a side that was 12th to the finals 3 straight years winning 42of 72 games along the way.
Took Port Melbourne to a GF appearance IIRC last year. Coaching a team with no AFL affiliation.

Personally think we could do a lot worse than go with a bloke who was often thought of as a coach who took no prisoners or shit from his players.

On the face of it his stats are good and unlike other people I don't believe he is a complete dud.

However at all three aforementioned clubs he was gifted with very strong lists with multiple star players and didn't have a premiership to show for it.

I wouldn't back him to take on a Melbourne or Richmond from the bottom to the top. Of recycled coaches without premierships Daniher would be a better appointment (or even Laidley?)!

I think you'll end up with a young coach Hardwick, Campbell etc although I think for where your list is Malthouse, Laidley or Sheedy in that order would do a good job.

Good luck anyway - hopefully both our clubs can be back in September where we belong before too long!
