Surely his time for a call up to either the Test, ODI or T20I squads for Australia are just a matter of when now? Has been far more threatening swinging the ball than someone like Starc this season and the previous (and taking a shitload more wickets), who the selectors are all over.

Just took 12 wickets in the Shield game against the Vics at the MCG, and 4 wickets in the one dayer today. So his immediate form is very very good.

I will be livid if he can't at least play a few one dayers of T20's this Summer.

I'm a big fan of Starc btw, and have no problems over his Test and one day selections.

Bowled very well in the shield game. But Bird should be in the team before him. He's in amazing form.

5 of Putlands last ten innings have reaped 5 wicket hauls. Earlier in his career you could argue a lack of consistency and ability to spray it but clearly no more and well over a third of his wickets are LBW and Bowled, the left armer can swing it back in line with the stumps, Johnson so often cannot... the wrong left armer certainly got the call up to the squad. this is what you get from someone bowling shield cricket.

Seriously underrated bowler! Would be a better swing option than hilfy imo. Get him in there! Would kill Sri Lanka

Get him in for the T20 squads this year. Say.....

Watson
Warner
Quiney
D.Hussey
M.Hussey
Bailey
Wade
Starc
Putland
Hogg
Bird

As much as I love him, probably time we moved on from Hoggy in the T20 team.

I think Beer should get the gig personally.

Wait, maybe put Glenn Maxwell in at 8 and Starc and Putland move down one,

putland can bowl and has a very good record. his pace (a bit like bird) could be a real issue for him at test level.

should be playing ODI's by the seasons end though you'd think.

rightly or wrongly i doubt he is in the top ten bowlers in the minds of the test selectors though...

Think Bird has to be next in for Test Cap.

watching putland bowl now and he's bowling with a lot more pace than what i remember (been probably 12 months since i've seen him bowl)... still got such a strange action.

But effective.

no doubt.

i've always been on the opinion a bowlers action is not nearly as important as a batsmen technique. as long as you can get the ball in the right areas, with pace and a bit of seam or swing the batsmen can not exploit any weakness in a bowlers action. but if a batsmen has a technical weakness it may prevent him from scoring runs as he moves up the grades against better bowlers - see phil hughes as a great example of that.

of course if a bowler is struggling with line and length it is often a result of a poor bowling action, and you tend to find bowlers with poor actions are more inconsistent as they don't have anything to fall back on when they're struggling for rythym.

Only saw one over from Kane Richardson tonight but shit there was some heat in it...

I've really only been nothing but impressed by him. can't believe he hasn't played more than 6 games of shield cricket. At 21 he's definately one to watch.

Bowls very quickly as well.
