I would be very surprised to see him in seniors this year. He still has a rod in his leg that needs to be removed offseason and would be a big risk if he aggravated that.

Then why even play reserves though?

I don't think staff were thinking seniors at first, but with our injury list, there might be a place for him plonked in the forwardline. I seriously doubt he'll play his traditional HF/HB/wing role at either seniors or reserves level, what with the rod and lack of match practice, but if they see an opening in the forward pocket then that's quite possible.

keeps things ticking over. He only played 40 mins and I would expect it would be slowly increased, and let's face it, the NEAFL is quite a few notches down.

True true

The one thing with rohan is his ability to have an impact as sub

I hear rohan had a really good week on the training track, he will play seniors this year all going well.

Hes got 70mins of game time today in the ressies
Thanks hopefully plays well pretty good team the GS 2s so should really see were he is at. Gaz said himself last week he thinks he can play seniors and Macca also. Is it still out of the Question from what u no or is it just seeing how the leg pulls up and taking week by week.

everytime is see him he tell me he's in the sub vest which i believe for all of 5 seconds and then he laughs at me...but yeah hes getting there

Love to see him back playing seniors this year. Hate to see him back too early playing seniors this year.

We need to make sure we manage his return 100% to the letter. Ultra conservitive IMO. I don't want to see the kind of impact on his career as say a Nathan Brown had after his rushed return. Then saying that, remarkable story and remarkable dedication and determination by Gazza if he could manage a senior spot this year. What a bloody champion either way. Really looking forward to seeing him back in the 1s this year or next.

Why is he playing in the 2's then, the risk would be the same in the seniors or the 2's, IMO.

No it wouldn't. In the 2's he can have his game time managed, the pace isn't quite as intense, and not quite as physical.

I think the risk of aggravating the rod would be minimal in seniors or reserves otherwise he wouldn't be playing.

What is more of a risk at seniors level is Secondary injury. With the amount of time Rohan has had off a lot of muscles and tendons will be out of condition and SM is correct that the intensity of the AFL is so far above the ressies (this applies to nay ressies competition).

That intensity could strain muscled and tendons or even point joints at risk in managing the strain. We've seen many a player come back from a broken leg or serious knee only to injury hamstrings, backs or even the other knee.

Rohan will put his hand up but by the time he's ready for for that it will be our run home of tough matches.

Ideally a full pre season should be in order before we see him return to seniors but sometimes injury lists stop the ideal scenario.

Geez there are a lot of medical professionals offering up their opinions here.

Summed it up perfectly :thumbsu:

Honestly can't see us risking him this year (Although my heart secretly longs for his immediate return).

I haven't been able to watch the video of Longmire's presser but the article said:

Shaw hasn't played since round two after battling what the club has described as a "unique" abdominal injury. Rohan suffered a severe broken leg against North Melbourne in 2012.

"We had Gary Rohan and Rhyce Shaw play yesterday. Shaw played his first match and played quite well," he said.

"We hope to get those players back over the coming weeks.

"They are going quite well. Our reserves had a really good win yesterday. But we don't want to rush them either. They need to have a good preparation.

"They have been training really hard and we will sit down during the week and see how those blokes are going."

Longmire said Shaw and Rohan would be "in the mix" for the match against Richmond at the SCG on Sunday."
