first game back in the hoops, 39 touches and a goal.

Deserves a welcome back thread for all the manlove to go into after his first game back.

The little master still has the Midas touch and side step.

Brilliant first game!!

Welcome back champ

He's 33 years old, played over 300 games, hasn't played a game in over 6 months and has just come back from injury and knocks up THAT kind of game while running out of gas and blowing out some rush and cobwebs.
**** me what a Champion.

That pulsating vein coming out of his head really looks great on my plasma big screen.

Could play till his 50 after seeing that performance

It's a legit question - how much improvement from today does he have in him?

His first hit out in 7 months and we had a few players go down. But he still stepped up. There will be games when he can play a more outside role and take teams apart.

Thought he was a bit rusty early doors but kept on keeping on and he was instrumental in the win. Loved the Selwood to Ablett to Selwood to Ablett. He might be 33 but the guy thinks the game quicker than anyone in the comp.

He was ordinary for the first 15 mins of the game, to the point I actually fleetingly had the thought that perhaps the game HAS gone passed the great man and we've made a little bit of a mistake.
On cue he made me look a fool, not the first time and certainly won't be the last.

Ha ha. I would say: not much.

I want to know if he can maintain it.

Maybe a bit of a strange question - the crowd figure today was 54,112; would that have been one of the largest crowds that Ablett has played in front of since 2010?

The average attendance at Suns away matches over the last 7 years is 22,499 - so how many 50,000+ crowds would he have played in front of over that time?

And how much do we think he actually enjoyed having a decent crowd to play in front of

Great game for him considering his fitness level clearly wasn’t there and the frustration in his face over the tagging and his lack of speed.

He will be better for it and will get less attention once Paddy comes back...going to be scary if we can keep the fab 3 fit this year.

Most he played in front of at the GCS was 49k, he only played in front of 40k or more 2 times and they were both away to Adelaide.

Thanks

That must have felt great then to play in front of 50k+

Mate, he loves a big stage.

He prefers to be in the spotlight and saves his best for it.

Don’t let that modest demeanour in front of the camera fool you, his no different to Dangerfield with this stuff

He was a year below me at school - even in the school yard he wanted the spotlight and wouldn't have known what modest meant

GAJ is such a quick thinker, he just has that lateral movement and can dispose the ball by hand in any direction under pressure, its a real delight to watch.

Glad to see him back in the hoops.

We have some contested bulls at the club - Danger, Selwood, GAJ.

Don't underestimate blokes like Kelly, Fogarty, Parfitt, Scooter, Menegola. They will go in hard if they have to as well.

Even Duncan and Murdoch have hardened up the last two seasons; they are more balanced players than before.

Back to Gaz, welcome back, where you belong.

What was he like at school?

Won’t take any offence or care if it’s good or bad.

Interested to hear what you say
It's not like he was a brat or anything bad, but particular during the early highschool years he was happy for everyone to know who he was as who his dad was. It wasn't uncommon for the kids to be picked up by dad in the restricted school bus area out the back of the school.

He did seem to mellow as he got older - it was only when I stumbled across a whole school photo earlier this year that I realised he was still at the same school when I was in yr 11 (he was yr10 at this stage).

Duncan can play inside while Gaz plays outside and vice versa, expect those 2 to rotate all year long.

I think his fitness can improve and that will help.
Nothing gets match fitness like playing. And he was gassed.

That would be the improvement I could see.
