Gc Naming Swallow WTF?

The problem ith the AFL's decision is that GC is given special treatment because no other club will have a guaranteed Pick No 1 ( SWS will have pick 2 in 2011 ) to enable them to bring a player into the system one year early.
GWS have the same picks in 2011 as GC have in 2010 - including pick #1.

GWS draft wins
Team GWS to have Pick No.1 in each round.
Team GWS to have Picks 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 in round one. Please note that these selections have priority over any other special assistance/priority selections which may be available to other clubs, as per the rule that applies to the Gold Coast FC for the 2010 Draft.

So, let's say, as unfortunate as it would be, David Swallow blows a knee and needs a full reconstruction. He's no longer worth a top 3 pick, the Gold Coast want someone else. Where does the AFL take this one?

his contract states if he moves early, they (the GC) have to pick him top 3. No matter what, they are contructually obligated.

If it's the same as any AFL club playing a draftee in their VFL team, will the AFL maintain this precedent and allow Carlton to take Dylan Buckley a year before he's eligible for the draft? ;)

Carlton should be able to name Buckley as a FS selection a year before he's eligible for the draft.

And keep this AIS player and 17 year old from the clutches of West Sydney.

The AFL would throw out our request in a heartbeat with an eye to sending Buckley to GWS.

The decision is a crock.

Equalisation is garbage.

Swallows age will also be a major factor, he is not yet 17, he would have had the full year at WAFL level next year, and would be drafted. Its so he can get aclimatised to the culture and lifestyle i would imagine, and so coaches can monitor his performance.

...darling is not as good as swallow so he does not get the same treatment.

Can't see a problem with it - Cordy previously, now Libba & Wallis train with the Bulldogs during school holidays (Lachlan Hunter may get an invite at some stage over summer too).

Swallow would be a top 10 pick this year if he was allowed to be in it. One of the reasons for the drafting age changes was to keep guys like Swallow and Darling and Toy for the new franchise. Next year's crop appears to be as good as this year's is ordinary.

Gold Coast have a number of options up their sleeves as to how they get kids up there, but the AFL is falling over itself to make it work for them; so, if they want Swallow to train with soon, he's probably going to do it.

Looking at this year's U18 carnival, Swallow really looked the goods.

Not Top 10, number 1.

of that there is no doubt.

What happens if either Rich or Melb qualify for a priority pick next year and want to draft Swallow?

...GC have like first 3 picks, then 5,9 and 10 i think?

cant remember,

im sure they do want to draft Swallow, but now he is contractually locked in to a top 3 spot.

winner winner chicken dinner.

Yeah, but i thought the priority pick was independant of any of the draft 'rounds'.
ie:
priority pick (AFL's Biggest Loser)
round 1 : pick 1 GC
: pick 2 GC
etc

Read it again.

GWS has pick 2 in the first round.

They have pick 1. Vader even quoted it for you. I'll try it again, bolding it this time:

Team GWS to have Pick No.1 in each round.
