Your record has a scratch. Change it.Im assuming you also recall how damien hardwick singled out scotts coaching in last years prelim as the reason we ended up 21 points ahead at half time??
This...The WA sides already spent six weeks in a hub and the SA club's four weeks.
How would it be fair if those teams didn't get some games at home?
Brisbane should win this year with their lack of travel. And the AFL looking at a GABBA GF.
I'm usually over a loss by now, but we butchered what would have been a magnificent win and perhaps even a season changing win given the confidence that would have flowed from it.

I'm not one to knock Scott.
He sets up excellent game plans.
But I would suggest he is stubborn when it doesn't go to plan.
And it was refreshing to hear a coach admit he'd dropped his game plan mid game.
You really are crazy sometimes.
I turned off the TV at 3qtr time and told my partner I was going to go and work on my stuff on my computer. She asked me why and I said "I've been watching this team long enough now - I know exactly what's going to happen." We all knew. And it played out like clockwork. Ah well, we've had a great decade and Chris Scott's winning percentage and yada yada yada. Just felt really deflated after this one.
There will be changes for Wednesday mostly a rotation thing, hope like hell Krueger is part of that.Back on the W/C game I also reckon deep down Scott would come away happier with the Cats performance than Adam Simpson about his group carried on the back of Nic Nat.Totally agree, once again we brought magnificent effort and had them by the short and curlies being 24 or so points up and under control.
Whilst we looked tired in the second half we still could have won it despite some horrendous turnovers .
I reckon we’ll be livid over this one☹
Sav had a Barry Crocker but those calling for his head would do well to look at some of Nic Nats games early on , he hasn’t always dominated like he does now.
I am concerned with Simpson and Fogarty as they appear a bit vanilla despite putting in huge effort. Their kicking seems limited as well as I doubt they can kick beyond 45 metres. I like what Close brings in particular his one touch non fumble ability.
We can’t play 3 small forwards with that limited skill set though , particularly when you add Miers as well.
We also missed a tall going forward particularly late when the pressure was on so Krueger has to come in.
He and Zuthrie did a session on the ground after the game and I must say he has some size about him and seems very athletic- would love to see him on Wednesday![]()
Yeah that’s what a ruckmans game is judged on isn’t it. What a ridiculous reply.Nic nat and grundy had the same hit outs each. thats not what happened last night.
Ask Mark Blake how far that gets you.Nic nat and grundy had the same hit outs each. thats not what happened last night.
Fogarty was Geelong's first pick in the 2017 draft at no 22. So actually early in the second round. Oscar Allen went to WC at pick 22. Geelong picked up Tim Kelly at pick 24.Where are people getting this "first round draft pick" thing from? He wasn't a first round draft pick. He was taken in a part of the draft that was starting to get speculative. What pumped up his tyres was his first year form not his selection order.
I don't know if he's going to make it or not but last night he played like a kid who has played midfield in the 2s for two years and was dropped into the forward line to cover an injury.
I did the same not long into the 4th. Just knew exactly what would happen.
Come finals it will also be the same rinse and repeat. We just don’t have it in us, and the big game failure is so ingrained in us it’s utterly predictable now.
Ask Mark Blake how far that gets you.
Not impressed with Atkins or Dalhaus. Close looks a better option. Cockatoo would be a livewire down forward if he could string some games together. Perhaps even James Parsons. Rohan may not get a lot of the ball but he crashes the pack and scares the opposition with his speed. Plus he kicks straight.Selwood, Ablett, Clarke, Atkins, Stanley, Dalhous...
Pretty good effort against a very good team on their home deck, off a short turn-around from a monsoon weathered hard slog , I would say!

No. I was referring to the players that played last nightAblett dalhaus selwood would have shat the bed?? your saying those 3 in at the expense of our bottom 3 players wouldnt count??
We didn't handle the dewy and humid conditions very well up there particularly as a few of the games were played at night and at Metricon. We did seem to manage wins for the last 2 matches as they were played during the day and at the Gabba from memory albeit against weaker sides. If we end up back in Qld or the NT time will tell whether it was just a rusty restart to the season or we are just unable to play well in those conditions.This...
Definitely Brisbane's to lose this year if we play finals in QLD
Port also seem to like it up North
Coasters stunk it up when they were over there.

I agree i'm not talking about Nic Nat there, you will need to go back a bit to find the context.I cannot recall a single player in a long time having such an impact on a game like he did last night. Half of their goals was a direct result of his ruck work. Insane performance
What did he say? I haven’t caught up.But I would suggest he is stubborn when it doesn't go to plan.
And it was refreshing to hear a coach admit he'd dropped his game plan mid game.
I did exactly the same thing. That goal Hawkins kicked with 30 seconds to go before 3 quarter time gave me a bit of hope. That hope was completely gone 30 seconds later when west coast cleared the ball out of the centre and kicked a goal with no pressure at all applied. Danger could have chased Shuey down be he was running half assed. Not to mention Henry being horrifically out of position to allow the opposition to take an uncontested mark in the goal square.I turned off the TV at 3qtr time and told my partner I was going to go and work on my stuff on my computer. She asked me why and I said "I've been watching this team long enough now - I know exactly what's going to happen." We all knew. And it played out like clockwork. SA Clubs don't need to hub again because their government allows for clubs to FIFO between SA and QLD. Both teams are scheduled to play games in QLD over the next four weeks. The WA and SA teams will need to hub again later in the year and likely finals.
Stop making excuses for the loss. It’s very annoying.Conditioning is an enormous part of playing AFL level footy. It absolutely had a big impact especially with limited ability to recover after a ”monsoon” as you call it and west coast had their elite facilities to use
Yes. And we are a team of chronic 'slipper overers' on dewy tracks. Not sure whether that is a function of boot choice or just unfamiliarity with conditions. Hopefully some solid time up there may help acclimatise. Gonna get hot too, in october...( if we get that far) another factor? We didn't handle the dewy and humid conditions very well up there particularly as a few of the games were played at night and at Metricon. We did seem to manage wins for the last 2 matches as they were played during the day and at the Gabba from memory albeit against weaker sides. I think we're one elite midfielder short at the moment. Even with a full list available we really need another elite midfielder. Paddy has good moments, but he rarely delivers it over the whole game. Duncan is an A grade outside mid but can go missing too. Joel is still elite. Menegola and Parfitt are good B grade players. All the rest are C's at best. So we really need an elite quality inside mid to make this team kick ass.
Of course, getting a Grundy/Gawn like ruckman would be great too.
Yeah for sure, just pointing out that "first pick" and "first round pick" are often wildly different. By the same logic we must have failed pretty hard when spending a first round pick on Ryan Gardiner in 2015.Fogarty was Geelong's first pick in the 2017 draft at no 22. So actually early in the second round. Oscar Allen went to WC at pick 22. Geelong picked up Tim Kelly at pick 24.
Great post Cursed one, as always. With not many of their own fans backing Geelong in to give more than a tokenistic yelp against the white-hot Weagles, we of little faith were promptly treated to a quality first half of football.
Chris Scott and the coaching staff appeared to have total buy-in from players who were clear-headed and decisive.
Defensive discipline from all 22 Cats was crucial in establishing a foothold on the match, with the Eagles - a team stacked with classy, clever players - forced to second-guess and kick to contests, unable to exploit us laterally or through the middle on the break.
Esava Ratugolea and Mark Blicavs had the task of nullifying Nic Natanui to the best of their modest rucking abilities, and early on they were effective enough.
However Natanui dispelled claims that he is unfit with a huge 2nd half, palming it decisively in a manner that Geelong fans (and midfielders) can only dream of and effectively turning the tide for his team.
With a slim lead at three quarter time and momentum with the home side, the Cats needed some special individual efforts to bring it home; an Ablett or a Selwood historically offer so much in these moments, and tonight it was a chance for others to put their mark on the team and stand up under pressure.
Alas the no one really stepped up to the plate as the game slowly slipped away.
Only the most churlish of Geelong supporters would fail to concede the sheer class of Tim Kelly, and the emancipated eagle was predictably damaging.
Liam Ryan's 3rd quarter was explosive and Josh Kennedy slowly worked his way on top of first Harry and then Henderson.
The defensive structure and shape sagged significantly as the game wore on and we were lucky we were fairly efficient going forward or else things could have gotten ugly.
No time to lick our wounds or pout; the group put in a half-decent performance tonight but all focus needs to shift to recovery and getting the best possible group together to tackle a North group who have suddenly remembered how to play footy.
