Geelong rorting the system

Disappointing, but not surprising, at the dishonesty and delusion of Cats posters to accept what everyone has known, and now has been made public (released at a time to avoid scrutiny) by even the administrators who've been captured by Geelong influence (explains the warm lettuce leaf fine).
Think that's pretty blatant evidence of the corruption of the league, and Geelong. And probably explains a few of the cultural issues we're seeing with off field behaviour.

People missing the point with some of these items.

‘Forgot to say they were staying on a players farm’ doesn’t sound too sinister. But what if it was ‘Geelong paid player $1m for players to stay 1 night on farm’ all of a sudden sounds fishy.

It sounds like Geelong have been rorting the salary cap for a good part of 12 years now given their previous fine in 2020 and now 2025 (despite saying they’ll focus on being compliant and never being in compliance). There was enough ‘grey’ which while 100% taking the piss the AFL’s loose rules around sponsors and third party rules meant they couldn’t nail them.

Chris Scott taking multiple full time jobs is as in your face as you’ll ever see, while ‘technically’ not against the rules. Remember this is the guy that said how taxing an AFL coaches job is (but then decides to get a C-Suite job at a sponsor on his limited free time).

AFL clearly telling Geelong to knock it off and warning other clubs not to follow in Geelong’s footsteps.

2022 flag definitely has * and I bet AFL secretly happy Geelong lost the Grand Final this year.

In what universe can there be an asterisk against the 2022 flag when, despite whatever "administrative errors" were made, everything Geelong paid to everyone was accounted for in the AFL's final audit and proven to have not been in breach of the TPP?

So, please explain exactly where Geelong was advantaged? What material gains did Geelong obtain which resulted in an 81 point Grand Final win which, if had been correctly accounted for, would have been to the detriment of 14 odd goals?

The Bulldogs were found to have breached the salary cap in a similar way, not by exceeding the TPP, but in accounting errors. They, too, were fined. Why aren't you up in arms about the Bulldogs?

It's a shame there was no actual salary cap breach in this "rort" though.

“We never breached the salary cap! We got only got fined those other payments, which were completely outside the salary cap!”
This is terrible comprehension that says "I didn't understand what happened!". It was a failure to lodge paperwork, not that the actual items equated to a breach of TPP. Has happened to multiple clubs audited over the past decade.

I’m sure Geelong would never do any dodgy AF third-party payments.

“The Extended Audit found, on the basis of the information obtained and reviewed by the AFL, that the Club did not breach the AFL TPP Limit nor the AFL player movement rules in any season within the timeframe assessed.“
Mate aren't you Cat Man? Good luck with the sovereign citizen stuff and conspiracy theories 😂

I’ve noticed a pattern forming on here. Geelong were found guilty of not having lodged some third party player payments and yet, Cats supporters in their posts where they’ve listed what the audit found, have completely left that one out.

That literally is the salary cap rort. The league can gloss over it by saying they never went over the cap. But Geelong don’t need to ever go over the salary cap for it to be cheating. All they need to do is pay their players less under the cap and have the rest coming from third parties/sponsors (the same as their head coach being paid outside of the soft cap). And they did this for 13 years? Were they going for the world record? 😂

Come on folks, we all know it is 'total player payments'

Doesn't count as a 'payment' if they just get a holiday for free, or a car to drive around in, or a farm the size of Tasmania, or a few other little perks, right?

Oh, it is supposed to? Well who can remember to do all that tricky paperwork. I'm sure you understand how hard it is to get that done when your administrators have to spend half your time down at the local cop shop or on the phone to the media ensuring they cover up the behaviour of your players. It's like medical reports and accurate team lists, right? Who has the TIME in this day and age?

Certainly can't be the coach... Poor bloke has had to take on three extra full time jobs just to get by... And half the former admin team had to get jobs at AFL house to make ends meet. Not to mention those poor former players who took all those salary cuts to help the club bring in the best midfielder and best forward in the comp... They have had to take lifetime jobs doing 'commentary' on channel 7 or Fox. Imagine having to work alongside Brian Taylor for 3 hours each week and only getting paid $1m per year for your troubles...

If anything, Geelong are the victims here imo

Not a single person has denied the similar paperwork lapses that lead to the Bulldogs and Lions getting fines in recent years.

We're still looking for salary cap/TPP breaches. Max Holmes did get an iPhone though (I'm sure no other club's players have ever received similar) and a woman drove around in a car for a few days without paperwork being lodged. Wow, rort exposed. No wonder we can pay every player 30 cents on the dollar.

When those threads are started, I am sure people will discuss those.

You’ve just proved my point.
