Geelong rorting the system

AFL has set the precedent now with allowing all this murky sponsorship/outside employment stuff. It will likely turn into the next AFL arms race.

I'm sure Geelong people won't be complaining if they lose anyone to this.
Hate to be that guy and even feel a little ikky defending Geelong but these deals aren’t new and have never been a secret

Dusty had a similar deal with Puma who just happened to be one of our new club sponsors in 2017

Should the AFL go over these deals? Absolutely but they aren’t anything new

Some players have them with club aliened sponsors and some don’t

Andrew f**ken Welsh has one of the highest net worths of any recent past player through links to dodgy property deals via Bomber Thompson through contacts he made at Geelong. Worst thing about it was that Dodoro made bank off it as well but that wasn’t enough for him, he had to be an absolutely useless spud for decades and sue the club on the way out.

Well we certainly know what Dimma was taking under the table during the time Scott sacrificed his salary to help out club staff.
"Sacrifice" your salary and we'll just give.you a job title and all the money you have up and more. What a hero 🤤

Maybe Cats should've used some of that money to learn how to play second halfs that year

He gave up his salary so the club could keep the staff…Nice try
You're acting like he actually gave up any money. When you have under the table deals, you're not really giving anything up. He gets paid less on paper, more under the table and the nuffies clap and cheer.

Strong accusations without any proof …meanwhile Dimma was running around and cheating on your club’s dime

You’re acting like you actually know. You don’t. You’re just speculating based on deep rooted hatred and prejudices.

With all due respect do you actually have proof he gave up any money? Or did you just read or hear it somewhere and immediately believe it because it paints a Geelong person in a good light?

Cats made the claim that Scott sacrificed his entire 2020 salary. It meant they had more off field staff available to support their 2020 title push than any other club.

The trouble is the claim doesn't pass the plausibility test.

It just gives the appearance of the Cats rorting the system - yet again - to gain an unfair edge in an extremely cynical manner, exploiting a situation where other clubs actually had to shed support staff to fit within the hugely reduced soft cap.

Nobody believes Scott sacrificed his salary without some other compensating value coming his way, not even Geelong supporters. If it was widely held by Cats supporters to be a genuine rather than cynical sacrifice, we would never hear the end of it. The fact Cats supporters barely ever mention it on this forum speaks volumes for what they really believe.

What a legend. This is why organisations like Morris Finance want someone like C. Scott in top leadership roles.

You mean you don’t believe it. Scott has refused to be drawn into discussion about his sacrifice, and that’s because he is a private person. I can tell you he sacrificed his salary when the club made it clear staff had to be laid off because of the COVID pandemic.

You don’t believe it because you are a sad, cynical fool who only sees the worst in people.

On Richmonds dime lmao. Richmond own him. He does not have his own life. Every second he breaths is on Richmonds dime

Don't really give a shit tbh. Personal issues are his own issues, none of my business. Rorting the system and cheating tho, that's something that actually matters as a foot supporter.

Do you support the legs, arms, torsos and heads as well? Or more of a fetish thing?

Again with all due respect, that’s not proof that he gave up anything. He ‘pledged’ that he would, but did he actually follow through? You don’t know for certain. You’ve read a couple of articles and because it makes Geelong look good you automatically believe it. And if you take anything the AFL says as gospel, more fool you.

I'd suggest Dangerfield ie a current player under Scott confirming it adds a fair bit of credence to the claim, short of looking at his payslip which we don't have access to. Otherwise we can just file this under Richmond conspiracy theory #163.
  • Geelong can't afford to keep all their coaches
  • Geelong leak word of Scott working for free during COVID
  • Promise to pay him back via Morris Finance sponsorship years later
  • ???
  • Profit
  • Also somehow this is why Richmond are reigning wooden spooners and looking likely to become back-to-back spooners

Everyone's speculating, mate.
Not everyone. We haven’t seen the same level of hysteria over Dusty’s Puma deal from supporters of other clubs. Why? Because we don’t really care. But certain Tigers supporters are hell bent on cutting the tally poppy that is Geelong because it makes them feel good.

Seen a few other supporters from other clubs "cutting the tally poppy" as well. Seems the cats have a reputation

That's what happens when you're the most winningest team of the 21st century with the most premierships in the 21st century.
