Reading an atrticle on realfooty.com, it states where Geelong are currently at 3/4 of the way through trade week.

cameron mooney to st kilda for 3rd draft choice

david clarke to carlton for 3rd round draft choice

these two deals are pretty much done.

the other two players mentioned were Ray Hall who is also being courted by Sydney, and David Haynes from W.Coast

I think Haynes would be good, although not a High profile recruit, i think he will fit into our foward line nicely

Ray Hall on the other hand................well me may as well keep Cam Mooney

i disagree on Ray Hall. I think they have given up on a high profile forward coming and are maybe looking to the skipper to play a key forward role. Hall would be able to play in the ruck and swap with king i suppose doing the "pinch hitting". Graham, King and McArthy would be by no means easy to match up on.

In effect its Mooney and Clarke for Hyanes and Hall which in my books is a win

Probably in effect it's a win-win situation.

Just on Ray Hall, surely the Geelong coaching staff have made it abundantly clear that they have mismanaged King and as a result, have buggered him up.

There goes our Premiership ruckman.

Screw you, Thommo. Trade week ****es me off.

The more and more I think about it, I like the idea of David Haynes coming to Geelong, or rather the possibility of him making amove here.

He's a local guy, from Warnambool, and played with the Geelong Falcons, so he knows the area quite well. And he's been able to put up some decent numbers with West Coast, a team that was able to put points on the board almost seemingly at will this past season.

Haynes managed to kick 27.14 while not missing a game in the home-and-away season this year. Not bad...

Plus, at age 22 and 188 cm, he could fit in quite well on the forward line, and provide another option to the forward setup.

What the hell, at least it would be an improvement! :D

So what would we give up to get Haynes? We have some options, that's for sure...

West Coast's unlikely spearhead
Mic Cullen

David Haynes is an unlikely full-forward, but West Coast is currently fielding an unlikely forward line.

Haynes stands just 188 centimetres tall and weighs 90 kilograms, and while nobody is claiming that he’s small, he’s hardly in the mould of your classic full-forward of yesteryear.

Be that as it may, the West Coast Eagles have been the most prolific scorers in the AFL this year, with 776 points at an average of 111 points - or nearly 19 goals - per game.

Haynes said the unusual forward structure was working well because everyone was helping out and working hard.

“It’s been working good – we’ve had an even contribution there across the forward line - apart from Phil Matera, he’s kicked the goals obviously - but we’ve got blokes popping up like Ashley Sampi, and our midfielders are kicking a lot of goals, so we’re going alright,” he said.

While Haynes is yet to kick a bag himself, he’s not worried, because coach John Worsfold is satisfied.

“He’s just been happy that I’m making a contest and giving them a good option to kick to.

“He’s just told me to go down there and lead hard, and hit the contest as hard as I can and make sure that we get the ball to the front for people like Ashley Sampi and Phil, and our midfielders running through.”

The 21-year-old said West Coast’s current game plan traded height for speed, an ideal plan on today’s fast, hard surfaces.

"I think that seeing as there’s no real tall people down in the forward line we’ve got a lot of legspeed, and when the ball gets kicked out into space, I’m sure that our legspeed makes us a bit better when it’s out in the open, so it’s been good.”

Haynes is a good young player. He struggled early at West Coast but really came on this year. If we could pick him up for the supposed pick 35 we are getting for Clarke then I'm sure we would all be rapt. :D However I don't think he is worth our pick 22.
If Geelong was really ruthless we'd say except our deal or we'll get Haynes to nominate for the pre-season draft because he is out of contract. I'm sure nobody above us would pick him up. However knowing the GFC this would'nt have even be though about. :(

Except, according to the stats you provided, rounds 21 and 22.

What the hell Cats, lets get another lean goal kicking machine.

His stats indicate that overall (in terms of goalkicking ability) he plays much better when the tracks are hard and conditions good.

Much like the rest of the Cats really

27 goals aint bad considering he would have had that big nosed show off Matera getting in his way all the time!

your not serious

getting haynes would not help out forward line at all his basically the same as kingsley sept worse. Haynes is just a mark and lead player. He is smaller then kingsley, weighs less and as someone else stated played every game to only kick 27 goals. Kingsley played bout 15 games kicked 32 and that was considered a **** year by him. Haynes would just be like getting another reject forward like others we have had kingsley, mooney, white, spinks etc... he is not the answer

If we give up our 2nd round pick for Haynes, it will mean that Nathan Ablett is definitely not coming to Geelong next year.

When you think about it, if we were able to get Haynes for the draft pick we'd get from the David Clarke trade, Geelong would most definitely be in front. In effect, we'd give up Clarke for Haynes, while both Carlton and West Coast would also be fairly happy... a win/win/win situation for all 3 clubs.

Not 'the answer' - what the hell does that mean?

As if we are going to magically stumble onto 'the answer' in trade week - whatever the hell your definition of the answer is.

Are you seeking the answer to the question of life?

Why dont you type something worthwhile?

You're comparing the goal kicking feats of a FF, in Kingsley, and a flanker in Haynes.

It's akin to deriding Paul Chapman for not kicking as many goals as Barry Hall.

Haynes is the best forward REALISTICLY available to us . The thing that i don't get is that surely we don't need both Hall and Loats. If we get Loats for Clarke that is ok. If Ray Hall wants to go to Sydney then i would be more than happy with their 2nd round pick.

Don't even try to understant HC. You will get a headache :( . Surely we could get loats for a 4th rd pick and keep pick 20 for street.

That would leave us with picks 7, 20, 22, Blake, 35, and Loats.
5 picks in this years draft is more than enough. May as well make them high picks. If we could on trade that #35 for Haynes then I'd be happy but either way Haynes should be our target for the PS draft. As I've said it hardly goes down as a stellar trading period but no one can say we didnt come out as clear winners in the trades we did.

bulldogs got picks 6 & 20 from the tigers for nathan brown and bulldogs are giving geelong pick 20 for peter street..... just announced on 3aw

If that's the case we've done very well. As I've said before, anything for street is a gift and pick 20 is a bonus!

Geelong will get Ray Hall from the Tigers in return for draft selection 19, with Richmond then passing on that pick to the Bulldogs as apart of the Brown deal, which will see the Dogs get Street

from footygoss.com.au

well done cats!!

pick 19 - Street

YESSSSSSS! Great deal for us. After round 21 Street would have been lucky if he was not de-listed. Now we almost get a first round pick for him. A clear win for us.

All things considered, sounds like we made out like bandits.

All in all, two players that fill a need (potentially) in the forward line, and four forthcoming draft picks, not counting Mark Blake to be taken on a father-son selection.

Former Falcons sign on
Saturday October 18
Geelong Advertiser - ANDREW MEATH

GEELONG scored two out of three in its search for young talls at trade week when it snared David Haynes from West Coast and Hawthorn's David Loats yesterday.

The Cats also made a play for Richmond's Ray Hall but couldn't get the deal over the line.

It is a homecoming of sorts for both Haynes and Loats who are former Geelong Falcons.

Geelong got Haynes and draft pick 42 in exchange for pick 20 which it received from the Bulldogs for Peter Street.

Loats, a ruckman who hails from Leopold, arrived at the Cats in a three-way deal that saw David Clarke go to Carlton and Simon Beaumont to Hawthorn.

Limited opportunities to play in the Cats midfield and criticism of his disposal prompted Clarke to look for a trade.

Friction between Clarke and a key member of the Cats football department also led to his decision to want out, he said.

``I was caught in an unfortunate situation where I thought the best thing for everyone was for me to leave,'' Clarke said yesterday.

``It was a situation that was never going to work itself out, it was going to affect my footy in the end and that was why I decided to look elsewhere.

``I was not going to get the opportunities at Geelong which I wanted and I think I'm going to get them at Carlton.''

Haynes played mainly in attack during his 45 games for the Eagles but at 188cm is not the key marking forward the Cats want so desperately.

``We're comfortable with what we did,'' chief executive Brian Cook said.

``It's a pity we could not extend our trading to recruit a tall forward but there wasn't one traded in the end.''

Cook revealed the Cats offered Hawthorn its first and second round draft picks for Jade Rawlings but it wasn't enough.

``Hawthorn wanted a good player and a first round pick and we were never in a position to provide that so we never got down that path,'' he said.

The Cats have not given up on Hall, with the Richmond big man set to nominate for the pre-season draft.

Geelong has fifth pick in the pre-season draft behind the Bulldogs, Carlton, Melbourne and Richmond, and plans to use it.

It has picks seven, 22, 38 (Mark Blake, father-son), 42 and 54 in the draft.
