People talk about players who can lift the side in an instant.

I reakon Mooney is the player that can turn the heat up and give his players a spiritual lift.

Hope he does it on Sunday!!

Who do you think is Geelongs "Barometer" player is?

I think Steve Johnson, he can be quiet for a few minutes in a game but when the pressure is on he generally comes out and produces some magic to get the rest of the team going again.

I reckon we've got four... but each has a different effect/role.

Moons - spiritual barometer. If he kicks a couple early, the team is in for a big day
Gaz jr - inspirer. if he does something brilliant, the whole team tends to lift and respond. The guy you want lifting in a close final.
Bartel - team barometer. if he is playing well, the team benefits more than anyone else provides.
SJ - he can lift the whole side in one ridiculously impossible moment. When the team has been pressured, he and Gaz have been the ones to step up and stop the rot. Very influential.

Great to not just have to rely on one! :thumbsu:

Johnson and Jnr - I think it was Blighty who was saying it during coverage on the weekend and I agree, when we have needed a lift this year, especially on the scoreboard, it has been these two over and over.

I think this has been the key to the season not just relying on one or two blokes to get us over the line. As the season has gone on I would also include Joel Corey in that mix. Not as brilliant as the four you mention...but I find when the chips are down he can really turn things around. Our most recent clash with the Crows at Skilled is a good example of what he can do to swing a game our way.

1. Moondog - The man loves pumping his fist after a goal. I get goosebumps.
2. Chappy - Just perfection. The boys get switched on and focussed.
3. Gazza - Excitement plus but it's more the crowd that the other players feed off.
4. Wodja The Dodja - It's like Forrest Gump in the College Football game.
5. Left field (Varcoe) - The man runs from one opponent to the next. I love his pressure. Surely the other players must feel obliged to match his work rate.

I remember the Geelong/Melbourne game last year that ended in a draw. We were down by quite a margain, but all of a sudden Gablett started playing awesomly, and you could see it visibly lift the team to claw their way back. Now that is a barometre. We have a few (Mooney, bartel, even Scarlett sometimes with his run of the backline) but I think none of them compare to the influence that Gablett can dish out.

Gazza and sj have been the ones that have stood up in games this year when we have needed someone to stand up. An example of this would be in the sydney game when sj helped ablett get that goal and then ended up kicking one himself just after it

There is simply no doubt that Corey Enright is Geelong's main barometer.

If he is in long sleeves it is "Cold and Wet"
If he is in short sleeves it is "Fine"

Mooney definitely and SJ not far behind him. Other guys have been fantastic too but far out when these two are on good luck beating Geelong this year.
