Is it just me or is our foward line shaping up to be one of the most dangerouse in the league. With player like Hawkins, Menzel, Brown, Kersten(depending on what he turns out like) and also Jordan Burke. Im sure im missing someone (maybe lincoln or schroder as the main small) but to me all of them seem dangerouse. Also if Steve J is the forward line coach I wonder what that would be like.

Also does anyone feel like the AFL loves Collingwood. I mean they get GWS and we get SK and SS who are good teams???

Bourke,Brown,Vardy and Kersten are unknown quantities and could quite rightly turn out averages players. We have the nucleus in Hawkins to build the forward line around and add to that Menzel(who could be anything)etc, and we have the beginnings of a decent forward line in the future. But there is still a lot of water to go under the bridge just yet. Potential is one thing but turning it into more than potential requires a lot of time and hard work. I'm just hoping that they all continue to develop with experience and stay injury free. The potential is definately there though and that is something to be excited about for the future.
I wouldn't say there shaping to be one of the most dangerous just yet.

Yeah thats what I ment as it could potentaly be. Even though there are a few unknowns, but just from what I have heard these players seem like good fowards.

I'm hoping they all turn out to be great forwards who play there role and put enough scoreboard pressure on to keep Geelong successful in the future. The potential is definately there for that to be the case, so that's a good start.

Re: Geelongs future forward line

err... why you guys sound like we already got burke?? unless I missed something he is eligible for GC zone selection and father son to us. Still too early for a decision on that I would have thought..

Not to mention that if anyone bids for him come draft time, Wells & Co may come to the conclusion that he is really not worth sacrificing a top pick for.

It's all just speculation at this stage and he may or may not end up at Geelong, but as we speak i think we're in the box seat to aquire his services. Only time will tell whether that is the case.

I'm not expecting a pick any lower than pick 18:D

Re: Geelongs future forward line

Sure Menzel looks good, Hawkins no worries but the rest? They are just hopefuls.

Every club hopes their picks will turn into top line players but it happen less than you think. We have been spoilt with the way some of drafts have produced groups of elite players but its a lot,lot easier to produce a dud year.

Think back a few years and we were hoping Simpson and McKenna were going to be our future. Same with NAblett , same Tenace. Not all picks ... "become" and bad luck can affect picks as well. Egan would have been in our best side for the next 5-8 years if we tried to forecast in 2007.

Lets just wait till they have run on the ground in anger , produce more than just enough to get drafted.

Re: Geelongs future forward line

Hawkins is looking better and will gain even more strength, technique and confidence this year I suspect.

Pods is good for probably 2 years and he is a very decent KPF.

Add SJ and Menzel - and you have good mid sized forwards.

Stokes, Varcoe, Duncan, Chappy and maybe Byrnes - provide good small forward options IMO.

Then we have some exciting potential in the wings - Vardy, Kersten and Brown - who seem to have some fairly good raps on them.

All we need is one of them really to turn out to be a KPF - and the future looks good.

We have quite a few guys that potentially could be good mid or smaller forwards in Schroder, Lincoln McCarthy, Motlop and Murdoch.

And West or the Big O might offer something when resting forward as well.

The next two years we are fine re the forward line - and I suspect it will become a strength for us for sometime to come. Time will tell but I have a good feeling about the forward set up going forward.

Re: Geelongs future forward line

I am loosing it. I need the season to start now. My thoughts are going way off track.

stick with your gut feel :thumbsu:
I reckon your right...we have major talent across the forward line and I think another bloke who may play a good deal of time forward is Guthrie.
He could turn into another Chapman/Bartel-type with the ability to play midfield due to his running ability and skills in tight.

If either one of Vardy, Brown or Kersten step up in the next 18 months, we have already built a young future forward line for the next 7+ years.
