Am I crazy or is Melbourne's midfield starting to look a bit formidable.

Petracca, Viney, Jones, Trengove, Brayshaw, Tyson, Vince plus a heap of younger guys and some depth spuds like Lumumba and Watts and Toumpas.

Not so shabby.

Shit.midfield

Wouldnt be in top 15 in the league

They have a deep core of inside mids but, other than Salem, NO outside class. They are talking about playing Jake Melksham at half back because he is now one of their better users FFS!

They will regret overlooking Parish, Francis and Gresham for a long time I think.

I've said before, but for the umps underrating one stellar game by Gresham, he would have won the Morrish over Oliver. I was speaking about that from our perspective, and how it benefitted us. But from Melbourne's perspective, that means that they just traded their way to a top 3 pick, to get a player that but for the hype around the Morrish medal (which he was very fortunate to win), may well have been picked in the 20s or 30s. And passed on Tucker - seriously, what on earth is that?

You cannot buy that kind of stupid.

Morrish Medal means nothing. Its a huge stretch to say that it was the overwhelming reason he was picked that early by the Dees.
Also Gresham came equal second with about 4 other players, and Im sure they also had a few games where they could have got more points here and there. Swings and roundabouts but something about stating matter of fact that it was the reason he went so early doesnt sit right with me.

Paul Roos designed team. Win stoppage, move ball 10m, create another stoppage, win stoppage, repeat adfinum.

This article is crap real reasons for Geelong, Sydney, Hawks dominance
-
Corruption of the draft with the expansion teams
- Collingwood's self destruction
- Essendon's Injection program
- MCG advantage
- Sydney's cap allowance
- Barry Hall not being suspended in 2005
- Saints injury run from 2004-2008
- Poor trade/draft decisions by clubs
- The old f/s rule
- The old Priority pick system
- Ross Lyon/Paul Roos game plan
- Professionalism of modern players means a GF team are gonna tend to stay up until many of their players retire

Also If you look at the last 12 GF's there were 7 different winners and 11 different participants 11 out of 16 ain't bad. Free agency has little to do with Geelong, Sydney or Hawks success this article is just another boohoo that Dangerfield went to Geelong get over it he wanted to move to Fairhaven I would move there if I could.

Apart from the expansion clubs and Brisbane who had a toxic culture there is no great change in player movements I wonder if our near success or that we always had players poached by bigger clubs gives me a different perspective but I am sick of hearing and reading this stuff.

I reckon if you are victorian and stuck in the debt cycle that is caused by Etihad stadium taking any profits away from you then it makes it doubly hard to operate on an even footing. Hawks and Collingwood spend the most on the football operations. Geelong are able to as well because they have an extremely profitable arrangement to play at their own oval. It is attractive to people wanting to move because they know they are getting state of the art and best practice.

I don't believe that money was the major factor that prevented the Saints from getting a premiership between 2004 and 2011.

Its almost the kiss of death.
Since he who remains awesome won it ,
Matthew Stolarczyk - went on to play for Moe
David Rodan - played some half decent footy, and busted some moves on the footy show. He was 173cm tall.
Luke Shackleton - played 1 game of AFL
Mungara Brown - Not drafted because he was even shorter than Jade. Or maybe he was just not good enough.
Mathew Bate - First round draft pick for Melbourne , so double kiss of death.
Fortunato Caruso - No-one wanted a guy with a name like that. ( in this enlightened time he would surely have been an early choice for Essendon ).
Mathew Kreuzer - And number one draft pick for the Blues, has gone on to be ....... acceptable.
Farran Priest & Jarryd Blair - Both shorter than Jade ( what is this the shortarse medal?) so clearly both must have been crap... not bothering to look it up.
Anton Woods ( yep it sure is ). Too short
Dyson Heppell/Jackson Sketcher. I assume Sketcher was one of the actors on "Lord of the Rings. Heppell is good, but he'll probably get sued by James Hird because he once spoke to him.
Alex Benbow - was in line to be drafted until his mad scientist father invented a shrink ray , rendering him 173cm tall.
Nick Graham - Average sort of player, probably one of Carlton's best.

Not going to do the rest, i assume, based on the previous winners, that they are mostly carnival short people.
Its good that Gresham didn't win it becaue they obviously feel sorry for, and award it to kids who are too short for AFL and we all know that Gresham is NOT.

It was rather poignant since it hamstrung our medical department. In what ended up being a space race run that culminated in what Essendon did and the spending we have at present in footy departments, it was tantamount in 2004 at least, that we were spending $20 on a meal from a fast food joint and divvying up the chips whilst everyone at the pointy end were driving a lexus and having lobster, there was simply that much difference in how the departments were run and the finances behind them.

We were turning a corner yes, the 80's was shit, utterly diabolical, the 90's things looked up but we were still a basket case off field, the 00's rocked around and we slowly and surely started to get our shit together, to look at what we were doing, how we were doing it and coming into a platform for tomorrow, and since probably '08 we've then been on an upward trend.

Unfortunately, our GF appearances have only highlighted that there are several clubs who have been, and continue to be that far ahead of us in certain factes of running a club and we've barely closed distances. it hasn't been a personnel issue that's killed us on field, it's been personnel off field that have killed us. We killed our own chances before anyone had the chance to beat us, but, going forward, we'll be better for it.

Yeah its money, but its also how the money is spent.
When Butterss was tossed out ,the first thing that happened was to spend more money on the football department.
Not to find the money , but to spend the money.

The fact is , if an organisation is well organised it is also more efficient. Butterss ran it like a dictatorship, and has admitted that alcoholism affected his decisions.

I don't consider injuries that could have been managed better, were the only factors in our failure to perform.
I guess keeping Max on the park could have made and enormous difference. ( his 2008 with Misson , was a great season for him )

In a business where clubs pay a fortune to have a 1 to 2% advantage money can be the difference. More managers might have convinced Ball to stay, could have done more spying etc. Collingwood got Hudgeton and Ball on to help unravel our game plan.

Yes. Could be argued that multiple games at the MCG compared to just a few could have been worth that one point that cost us a premiership in 2010.

Not being a smart arse. Every little thing can help was that an advantage for Collingwood? Playing the Grand Final on your home ground an advantage? I would say so.

I have always argued this is our Achilles heel. Same for Freo, West Coast etc. If a club is good enough to get into that part of the fixture where is plays top 6 clubs from the previous year it has also earned some G time. Every club should also have this experience so that young players can play on the biggest stage.

The cost of buying out Etihad early is directly related to its future earnings potential for the current owners. It is therefore not in the AFL's interest to contribute profit to the current owners.
Therefore your suggestion above could be augmented by the AFL trying to maximize the use of the MCG ( even for low crowd games ) and Cardinia Park, and only use Etihad where absolutely necessary.

They AFL are contracted to play a minimum amount of Docklands games every season. If it costs Geelong $500,000 every game they play at etihad that doesn't get over 30 000 people then paying for an empty stadium probably costs the AFL $1 million. They will keep putting fixtures on there and if Geelong gets their wish and play all home games out of Skilled then us, the Dogs, Dons and Roos will need to take up the missing games to pay for their stadium.

Meanwhile all the clubs playing out of the MCG make profits from every game. The hawks and Collingwood then have the audacity to suggest we don't have our financial affairs in order and don't deserve any assistance.

this is the single most important issue in equalisation.

Just wondering what is Carlton's best 22 next year?

They will be challenging the 0-2 win stakes!
