If he says Barry Prendergast was an excellent recruiter next im going to be convinced its the same person.
Not sure whooo your referring to, but our recruiting/drafting had been really poor, since the late 90's, imo.
Which is the chicken and which is the egg that is hard to tell.

Now if we apply a comparison to this...how would have Harmes developed, within that time and culture, of our club.?

How would have AN-B have developed.?

How would have Fritsch.?

How would say Jordan.?

Many of the slow developers may well have struggled, or even failed to make it.

In these scenarios its difficult to say who or what is at fault... except, I feel safe to say, that a weak culture is a recipe for failures.

Wonder if Schwabby still rolls around on the Vespa, I think he might be more of a motorised unicycle kind of guy these days.

On reading this comment BL, it immediately reminded me of how the self protectionist culture grows inside the club.

It would almost go hand in hand with supporters and players alike, even though they are separated for most time, thru the week.

With the expectation during bad times of losses, on a weekly basis. The fans get that veil about them; but so do the players as well.

The answer, imo, is to get angry at the constant losses, and fight to reverse the trend. Instead of going deeper into the shell and just becoming negatively critical, of all.

I imagine the fans go into negative mode, because they feel so distant from, and powerless to, force change within the club.

I can also see how having the clubs board watching, socialising and they're board meetings within the walls of the Mcc... that this exacerbates this very needy issue, for club supporters, and club members.

If supporters feel helpless about the direction of the clubs workings, then of course they will feel totally negative. and without being heard, let alone important, or influential.
Your idea of being a supporter vs my idea of being a supporter are two vastly different things

I also think you give the fans and supporters far too much credit for their ability to affect the culture of the club and the on-field performance.

Big Freeze launch video hit pretty hard today. Can't work out how to embed it, but recommend watching it if you get a chance. It's a one minute thing.

This, Head?

Damn shame that he cannot talk any longer.

Was about to post that. I love that they appear to be from around 2015 too. Bloke just felt like Schwab deserved to be roasted two years after he left the club. Can't blame him tbh.
It's amazing what eventually winning a flag can do for how you view past disasters. Now we look back at Neeld, Schwab, Diamond Joe, tanking, wasted draft picks, terrible trades, etc with a certain amused affection. All you need is some Benny Hill music and it's a jolly good romp.

All this reminiscing the bad days, remember on the eve of the 2012 season davey accused neeld of segregation between indigenous and non indigenous players then retracted his statement. That was a mess and I don't even recall a resolution.

Well I found this, no mention of davey, so maybe I remember it wrong.

To effect the culture the supporters actually have to feel they can in the first place. Then that will stimulate thought about the situation and remedies, rather than simply thinking the negative all the time.

Essendon and Carlton supporters are intolerant of failure and they let the club know in certain terms. they get quite in your face with the club when failing becomes too normal.
And things happen from that.

Melbourne supporters on the other hand have tended to remain far too passive in past decades of failures, and too willing to buy the next sales pitch.
Thinking the board has the best answers... and often its the board where the problems lie.

Currently things are really good, Via the help of AFL house.

This is the dumbest thing ive ever read. Both have been as irrelevant as us for 20 years. Supporters cant enact ******* change a good CEO and footy department with a good coach all moving together creates change. A bunch of flogs on bigfooty dont help s**t

Supporters absolutely can enact change.
As long as they have the kahunas for it, and desire to do it.

We all witnessed the magpies come close to an emergency vote for an election, just months back.
Supporters in the outer can effect change with their collective voices at games. Either way, for the positive and the negative.

This is where Roosy's 'veil of negativity', was mostly aimed at. You would have heard the call of teams, to quiet the oppositions crowd. To stifle the energy the teams get from their supporters positive voices.

So the supporters can and do influence games, and also boards positions.

RE: The lost Jack Watts ad. The best I could find was a Supermercado tweet that contained a detailed description of it..

Jack's acting wasn't bad, the father and son were so wooden you could have made a table out of them.

Im not sure you understand how the veil works, you said you took pot shots at Slick to inspire him, this is the complete opposite of what Roos was getting at.
