It has come to my attention that James Clement is the best defensive player I have ever seen, on TV he is good but to wathc him live shows the work that he does.. he knows exactly were the ball is landing, punches and is a big kick, to me hes the best defensive player i have ever seen.

Sean Rusling, looks the goods but needs to gain more experience.. give him some games if he deserves them otherwise give him time down in the magoo's. Has all the physical attributes and isnt just an 'athlete' he is a footy player. He looks slow at stages but i seen him chase down one of their players yesterday and man me and my mate there were like woah!!!

And tazza, he deserves so many free's he gets man handled and infringed all the time.. comeon umps be fair a free is a free

Yeah i agree Clement is a pretty good defender, ur best, but really ur only defender. U need some backmen. Clement good, the rest nothing. Oops...sorry wakeline...hes prity solid too. Cloke hahahah delisted?

Sean Rusling...meh nothing much...shouldnt have played seems to small atm. howevery saying this seems quite skilled and may be a player in future.

There were many free kicks....that some were given and some werent....every team gets them and ever team feels the pain. We had some not given to us when crawf and williams were man handled too. u just hope they dont cost u matches of footy... ie. dean solomon goal against hawks.

Clement and Wakelin are both just about as good as it comes in terms of tall defenders going around nowadays, and Presti still does his job on the taller players as well as we could ask anyone.

Presti routinely betters the likes of Matthew Richardson, Warren Tredrea and David Neitz. I don't know that there are many guys in the AFL who do much better than Presti on tall forwards.

Then there's Nick Maxwell, who's shaping up as a James Clement in the making.

We do need some young KPP defenders, but Clement and Presti have a couple of years left.

As for Rusling, he may be a little small for a KP, but he's fast enough and good enough at ground level to play on a flank, maybe even a wing, which is in fact what he was originally drafted as. He's shown a lot of good form as a forward in the VFL though, so we gave him a shot in our forward line. However, with Tarrant, Caracella and Travis Cloke being the main targets, he didn't get much ball sent his way.

He ain't a bullet off the mark, but he's Tarrrant quick at full pelt.

In the games I've seen, he's too scared to lead too far away from goal, thus not capitalising on his top pace. Yeah, he's been assigned full forward, but he should be told to play the Tarrant type of FF role and lead where he has to to provide an option wherever it's needed.

Play him again I say and tell him to run!

While Willy have Bill Morrison and/or Rayden Tallis at FF its understandable why he didnt want to stray too far from goals himself.

What do u mean he aint bullet off the mark?? he runs 100m in 10.65 seconds. would blow tarrant away

At this stage, he is either too unsure of his lead, or he is a slow starter. Plenty of 100 metre runners have a faster last 50. Indeed most of the good ones do!

I have seen him chase down guys pretty quickly, so maybe it's the confidence in his leading at the minute.

Hay, Smith=

Ours is possibly the most solid defense in the league and has been for many a year

He has put on a fair bit of weight and is probably coming to terms with his new body size so he doesn't have the acceleration.
However like FIGJAM said it could just be his confidence with leading thats the problem. He was probably mis-timing his leads so he approached his leads slowly at first.
Unless players get the ball they don't usually look that fast.

Also on the topic of speed Egan is deceptively quick. Sure we know he's quick but his long strides style of running with his long legs makes him look like he isn't going as fast as he actually is.

Clement,Presti,Wakelin>>>>Jacobs,Croad and whoever else Hawthorn has.

Why all the wraps on Croad's season....
It was like Collingwood had 19 men on the ground....he was terrible on Saturday...awful !
the amount of times he handballed to teammates and placed 'em under more pressure than he was...
decision making hasn't improved nor has his kicking skills based on his fwd entries on Saturday either under no pressure !!!

He has been good earlier in the season when allowed to run in plenty of space, something less accountable teams were giving him. When we closed him down and put the presssure on, well he just reverted to his old ways.

Yeah Clement is a great defender and a great player, and that is why he got the captaincy.
Rusling, I didnt get a chance to see this guy play but i will be watching very closley on friday night if he is playing.
Tarrant. Well, this guy need to learn how to kick straight, but hes doing ok. He may not be the best full forward in the comp but he is going along alright.

croad will be all australian alongside clement simply because theres no other defenders outclassing him atm. scarlett mal michael have had shockers and thats why croady will get AA along back flank or chb. clement is already in.

forget buckley as skipper, clement shold be urs now. and for rest of his career.

and yeah hay and smith i dont knw waht they are doing but trust me its bloody frustratin! our midfield is all class, but weve got notin in forward...just kids...and only williams is any good. defense...got the names just aint prodcuing da goods.

who was croads opponent??????
whoever it was, they did nothing.
from memory, hay had tarrant, so that leaves cloke.
jacobs was on him for the first quarter, then switched with croad at quarter time. his impact was minimal after quarter time after croad was switched to him.
croad has not been beaten by his direct opponent all year, except against pavlich, and even then, he forced pavlich far and wide for his possessions.

But he didnt hurt him on the way back, he was forced to look after 1 bloke, and then couldnt perfom the role of "the third man up" which is what he does best. He is a good player, not great.

In fairness to Croad he spent the previous Saturday in Hospital concussed.
It probably was his worst game in 2 years and he still beat his man

Croad plays a risky game that is part of hawthorns gameplan.
Him or whoevers playing CHB, it was Jacobs for a bit last week and he did this too, run to the centre to hurt the opposition. Too many times it came unstuck due to hawthorn or croad turning it over and if TC was an experienced palyer he would of hurt hawthorn more by getting in a dangerous position.

Clement: gun. Just love the way he outbustles his opponent 1:1 from behind, judges the flight of the ball and outmarks them at least 3 times a match. The better Maxy becomes the more James can run up the ground and roost it forward to our finally fully functioning forwards.

Rusling: 1 more game, as someone said tell him to keep moving, keep running. Dont just let him sit in the square and offer leads (of which most will be ignored with Taz Trav and Carra in the area)

Taz: I know we love when he kicks bags but he is doing just as much for the team in the last few weeks as he ever has. Will be a Vice Captain in the next year or two.
