There was a positive response to another thread similar to this so i thought i would make it more general.

I spose people can ask i questions and guidance with their VCE studies :)

i'll kick it off, is PE a worthwhile subject or is it a waste of time?

It is worthwhile if you plan on further your studies in that field. It is also a decent subject in that even if you don't plan to study/work in the field, the knowledge is still always relevant and useful.

Above all else it is a decent bludge a lot of the time and you spend a good amount doing prac which is always a good thing.

Probably could have just asked this question in the other thread tbh.

I did units 1 & 2 but I didn't think I would ever need it after school. Switched into IT 3 & 4 and it was the right choice. Always try and choose subjects you think you will use at Uni.

P.E IS NOT A BLUDGE!

Units 1 & 2 yes, but 3 & 4 are focused mainly on energy systems and the like.

3 & 4 P.E is more like a biology class than a sporting focused subject. It wasn't too bad, I learnt a far bit of useless stuff so I wouldn't recommend it if you're not aspiring in that field.

Well, that depends on your interests and how well you do at school, doesn't it? Someone who enjoys the sciences would probably find PE pretty easy.

You can learn some fairly useful stuff in PE. I didn't do it, but it looked basically like a watered down version of biology to me.

I don't think you understood my post. When I said it isn't a bludge I meant it is all theory and no practical work. Most take on P.E because they think it is the same as year 10 and 11 which is mostly practical activities.

You're right in saying it is a watered down version of biology. That disappointed most in my class because we expected outcomes relating mostly to sport and not the human body.

Man what school did you go to!? P.E. was one of the more challenging subjects I did, rarely did prac and if we did it was all fitness testing...beep test, lactate threshold etc

I'm currently doing units 1 + 2 in year 11 and finding pe fairly easy, the energy systems i find to be very simple.
From what ive seen the year 12's do, alot of it is about stats.

I did units 3 and 4 a few years ago and never did any stats at all, so teaching material must have changed since I did it. I found the main areas of study to be Energy Systems, Muscle Tissue, the human body (with the Heart being a major focus) and Government Programs promoting physical activity (This was big on the 2005 final exam).
