Former first round draft pick appears certain to be moved on by Port Adelaide for next season.

High quality inside midfielder who at just 22, is a far better option than the honest 'battler' Bentick or the injury prone Hadley. Trust me, this bloke is a VERY good footballer; a bad relationship with Chocco apparently the main reason behind his lack of opportunities this year.

Thomson would complete our midfield perfectly, his tough in and under work allowing Judd more time and space - which can only spell trouble for our opposition as we go inside 50. He simply thrives on getting contested footy.

I would love to be able to grab Thomson for our 3rd rounder, although Port might ask for more. I know we need a key forward, but I believe this opportunity is too good to pass up.

Thoughts?

despite only playing 7 games this year, he has averaged 14 touches 4 marks 4 tackles and kicked 5 goals 2.

Not bad considering he's played less then 30 games.

Hopefully we'll have a look at him.

This guy is worth going for IMO, I would offer, Bentick or Russell, throw in a 3rd or 4th rounder to sweeten the deal. If they want more than that, not interested.

My thoughts exactly no more Pfeiffer's.

What is Thomson's kicking like, no more guys who can't kick over a jam tin.

He is a far more complete and accomplished footballer than Pfeiffer. Skills are more than solid.

Thomson's big engine and fearless ball-winning ability under the packs are his main attribute though - good size about him too for an inside mid (6ft).

Is he out of contract?
If he is, we might be able to get him in the PSD.

Yep out of contract.

Won't last to the PSD though. As I said Chocco seems to have a problem with him but he is very highly rated by most Port Adelaide supporters - will definitely require at least a third round pick, maybe even a second.

I'd do it for a 3rd rounder.
Given the nature of this draft, i'd be very keen to hang onto out first and second round selections.

Straight swap for Jordan Russell ...

both first round selections from the same 2004 draft.

I for one would take that deal, Russell can go and would even give port our third rounder to get the deal done, russell is never going to be a superstar and we have had him on the list long enough now to realise that.

He goes alright, you could do worse, but i think purely the fact your midfield core is set he might want to try elsewhere

Gut feeling thinks he'll be swapped for Josh Carr

That's just the thing though, our midfield core is not set. We need one more quality inside mid in our rotation to free up Judd and Murphy from having to extract their own footy.

His hands are excellent. His inside work in traffic is his strength, a good hard nut who would be an ideal extractor for you guys to compliment your already impressive midfield. Staggered at the knockers on him, he just never gets a good go IMO. Kicking can be his weakness but I would still give it a general 7/10. Hands a near 9 to 9.5. Can kick a goal as well and has a high ratio of possies/TOG. You can do worse believe you me, desperate for him at the crows. Not the quickest player but all in all good enough.

I've seen him play a dozen or so games for Sturt in the sanfl. He's a genuine gun at that level, and is pretty much Sturt's best player every time he plays.

BUT he seems to have struggled each time he's gone up to play for the Power. There's no way he's worth a straight swap for JR, and he's not as good a player as Hadley.

Choke-o is a pretty good judge of talent - i get the feeling that Thommo may be one of those blokes who's too good for sanfl/vfl but not quite good enough for AFL...

He did a similar thing with Brad Symes last year though it must be said.

So not very quick, not a very good kick, has issues with the admin and his club is happy for him to leave. Right.

I wouldn't say he's not a good kick. He is a very good shot on goal - has kicked 4 and 5 goals straight numerous times playing in the midfield (sturt).

And i'm not sure he's slow, it's just that he's not especially quick.

He's no dud, but he's no magic bullet either (IMO).
