For goodness Cookie, get Chris Bond to Geelong. Bomber's assistant in 2007. and senior coach in 2008 [or sooner] if we don't fire next year. Walls said tonight his interview at StKilda was very impressive and he's "ready to go as a coach". Eade says the same. GET HIM!

Geez, Mr Sensitive, yov've cut me to the quick. You're right though. How's this one????;)

WHAT ABOUT THE CONTENT THOUGH - BOND OR NOT?

Walls has given Chris Bond the thumbs up........talk about a death nell on your career.
He was on the committee that got Wallace to the Tiges - not a bad choice.
He was on the committee that got Eade to the Bullies - not a bad choice.
The Saints thought enough of his knowledge of what makes a good coach to put him on their selection committee. Time will tell about Lyon, but he was number 2 at the Swans. Not Longmire.
Plus Eade also rates Bond.

Our record for getting assistants with a good coaching pedigree isn't good. Bond has that.

Either way, we have to hurry and make a decision. Longmire signed a new contract with Sydney, Silvangi has signed with St Kilda and we're none the wiser as to who will be in the job. There will simply be only deadwood left to choose from.

Rumours are floating around about Jarrod Molloy, but I'd like to see us target Mickie McGuane, particularly as he just got the boot from St Kilda. He has an extraordinary football mind and would be perfect for the role of the midfield.

I cannot fathom why Chris Bond would leave the up and coming Bulldogs for a lowly assistance role at Geelong. A club, who externally, looks to be in a mini-crisis. It would have to be an awful lot of benjamins.

I'm sure he would have a special relationship with Dog.

Because there's more chance of Thompson being sacked in 07 than Eade, and he can fast-track a move to Senior Coach.

Was suggested on Seven last night that Neil Balme might get squeezed out at Collingwood and might be interviewed for the new position that's been created down at the Cattery.

Problem is, he's being squeezed out because he hasn't performed. He's been under a cloud for a while.

Dead man's boots? There may be a new coach at the end of 07, so he could apply for it then - I can't see why he'd do it now.

Want Bond at the Blues!!! Come down to the Carlton Footy Club and join the coaching panel Bondy!!!! And you better appoint him Carlton!!!!!!!

In racing terms the ideal position to be is "one out, one back", so you can pounce when an opening appears. Like mid 2007 or 2008.;)

Rosella, I think you'll find (and I don't claim to be any expert) that Balme is well respected as a quality operator in most inner circles and word is that any squeezing out is purely political (and Eddie being as political as they come has a vested interest in a shake up to make it clear that he is taking action). My brother in law has close associations at the pies and even those high up (Swan, MM etc) have great respect for him, but i guess that's how footy works. I think cats would do well to have Balme-- rumour is that Hawks also have the feelers out for him.

I think the respect started dropping when he was disciplined over that incident in Queensland. Then other things have occurred like them moving him out of the box. With respect to making it look like they are taking action, they had a silly review last year. This year's would appear to be more thorough.

But he appears to have been moving sideways for a while.

Neil has a fairly impressive CV. He held a quite senior corporate position while he coached [Norwood I think] in SA. He had a good coaching record in SA and was considered to have a good football brain. Didn't do so well with Melbourne, but they didn't have a great list to work with.

Helluva nice bloke as well. However, I wonder whether he's moved with the times and the reason the folks at Caringbush intend either pushing him out or to one side is that he has fallen behind the times.

Fair points- as I say, i'm no expert but have only heard good things about him workwise, and from all accounts is as progressive as they come, but has been made the scapegoat more than a few times at Collingwood because he was an easy target (insert obvious joke here).
I don't think anyone at the club, or in football circles lost any respect for him at any stage (maybe despite Eddie's best efforts?)
re. "the Queensland incident" - not sure babysitting grown men in their hotel rooms should be on anyone's resume!

I agree that grown men shouldn't need a chaperone, however, the was some talk at the time that he may lose his job over it.

Point is, the review only identified two new appointments, and I would like to be sure we get the best possible. And I'm not sure someone that is being squeezed out of a club is the one.

I'd like to see 'em prize Scott Clayton away from the Doggies. Really knows his stuff and is a good manager of people. Maybe he could bring Bondy with him;)

Don't be surprised if they give it to Steve Hocking though. That would mean only two changes from last year. Yet to be appointed assistant coach, and yet to be appointed fitness guru.
