According to various sources in the media, we are interested in signing Big Red. I wasn't originally keen on the idea, but I say we should get him and stick him down at FF. He's still capable of kicking 50+ in a year IMO.

As for who to trade for him, I don't know. But seeing as he's out of contract, Yze can ******** off unless he takes a significant pay cut. Here's hoping he doesn't get Jimmy's record. Soft as butter!

We definetly need a big signing, probably up forward so Lance is a possibility if he wants to come. We have never had the pulling power as a Collingwood so it would be a challenge.

Would Big Red be suited to playing as a permanent centre half back? He seemed to play his best football there this year. Would strengthen our backline and give it some much needed experience.

that would seriously halt Rivers's improovement. Rivers has it in him to be better then Whitnall ever was, why jeprodise that?

melbourne need to really look over there playing list, and whitnall is not the right option. with robbo and neiz on the ground there is no room for him, especially with miller back and carrol finding real form in the backline. players like bruce, green, heffernan and yze are who are letting down the team. granted they can all play, they only show that when the team is flying, when the teams winning they play their recieiving game, thats not that we want, we want players like johnstone, moloney, nathan brown, james macdonald, davey.. all tehse players continue to bust their guts no matter how hard the going gets. whitnall is not the player needed to break the trend.

I think we need to keep this list together, who would you trade for a big key position player like whitnall??? it would have to be a big name and I don't think it would be worth it.
We have a young improving backiline with fergo and rivers developing, and browny, wheats rebounding. Our midfield is excellent when on song. we just need the capability to change our game style to be more defensive when teams are smashing us in the middle and i think a classy/smart player like yze, bruce or green needs to be down back more often.

I have to agree with SS here - we don't need to hit panic stations, but we need another quality tall forward. Big Red could well be the answer. Why, you might ask?

He has a football brain. Tarrant, Fev, Polak etc don't have that at all. He knows how to lead, has a good pair of hands and is a solid kick for goal. He is still only 25/26 as well, and could be the man out of the goal square.

Granted, we will need to give something decent up, but a player like Green plus our top pick would be something I'd go for.

We need to delist the crap, and shake things up just a little. If we ever want to win a flag, we need to do that, no good sitting mid-table for 4-5 years.

Whitnall could be a star with decent players kicking the ball to him.

Exactly. With TJ, Bruce, Moloney, Sylvia, McLean etc kicking it to him, he could return to 70+ goals for a year.

Green could be a star if he is used properly.

Why go after Whitnall when we could go after Fevola who has more in him than Whitnall. Fevola would do extremly well at a good club and if he had a bit of an attitude overhall.

Green - Whitnall wouldn't be an equal trade for us since Whitnall is seriously dropping in value.

Green - Fevola wouldn't be taken by Carlton but perhaps with a pick then yes

Lance has a brain and is a team player. Fev has neither of these, and I actually think he'd be more of a liability to the playing group than being a bonus. Fevola whinges and moans on the field all the time, and if he can get away with it with Pagan, then Danners isn't going to be much better.

Green is soft.

Fev is signed up for 3 years. Lance is out of contract. Carlton signed everyone up and 2 weeks ago re-signed another 3 players.
Forget the media articles based on speculation. That should tell you all you need to know. Lance is available for the right deal.
Fevola is not.

Work out what Lance is realistically worth and add 10% (to convince him to move) and you get Lance.
Work out what Fev is worth and add 50% and you might. Even then you may not. Easier to keep Fevola and trade him next year if he struggles again.

And give 10% to mojo for his tireless efforts in trying to sell big Lance before he launches into his summer macca's binge and comes back fatter than Alan Jackovich's ****** mojo's true identity is John Elliot.
