Get Luke Power..

I don't care whether he plays one game next year or twenty, get him down to the club.

We all know why we need him, leadership.

This is a bloke who could lead and mentor our 'leaders', especially the young ones.

If he plays good football it's a bonus.

Have to disagree. I know where you're coming from, but if we draft stopgap solutions like Power as leaders, what happens when he retires? Back to square one because someone else has been shouldering responsibility.

Change has to come from the inside at this stage of development.

Oh god no. There is a reason Voss got rid of Power. His form has been ordinary this year and if he was in our best 22 next year I would be very worried about the development of our young midfielders.

Imagine it: Watts and Power doing a commercial together.

Boom Boom.:)
They would bring a real spark to the screen, light it up I say. :o

But seriously, I don't think he is the right choice for us at this time.

Having known Luke for a number of years now, there is no way he would consider playing for another AFL club. Rumours are strong that he might go to GWS, but from my conversations with him, he has zero interest of playing on anywhere else. Wanted a quiet exit from the game, and that's what he received.

Absolute ripping bloke. Would be a massive boost if we got him as an assisstant coach. Has a great footy brain. He hasn't told me he has any aspirations to be a coach yet, but he will definitely do something in football. Loves the game too much. He did always say he wanted to play for Fitzroy(family are massive fans). So he might be playing amateurs at some stage back in Melbourne. If he does come back home to Melbourne, I'd be disappointed if the Dees didn't talk to him about a role at the club. Classy exit from a champion of our game. Never got in trouble off the field and was always a gun on it....

I don't think he will be best 22 next year, that doesn't mean we shouldn't get him down.

Read the OP.

Get off drugs, seriously you can't be serious about drafting him as a player.

Suggesting getting him as a coach however, seems like he would be a fantastic motivator & off-field leader, could teach our players plenty, but maybe him & Westy & Viney would be midfield overkill. If West decides to go somewhere else next year, I'd be targeting him as a replacement.

You sure about this.... Interesting interview on SEN with him this morning... basically said that he will look at offers at the end of the year once the dust settles.. (Mainly talking about GWS) and he clearly wanted to go on next year but was shown the door by Voss.. (not quite as blunt as this...)

Captain GWS 2012.

Not at all, we should get him as a mentor to the players.

If that's as a player or a coach it doesn't matter IMO.

Him being best 22 or even playing a game isn't a factor.

Wouldn't mind him doing something behind the scenes in a coaching or mentoring role...but playing he is done. His experience as a triple premiership player would be fantastic.

Also I seem to remember hearing somewhere his Grandfather played a few games with us back in the 1930-40's?

He could slot into viney's vacant role for next year. Great for the younger kids in the squad. Viney coaches next year and we see what happens after that.

Definetely not as coach. Assistant, yes. Full-time coach, hell no.

Will be a big slap in the face to James McDonald who was playing football as well as Power has this season when dumped due to age. Unless our new coach comes in and get Connoley and/or Scwab sacked can't see it happening.

Personally felt that JM's early 2010 season for was almost AA quality. Was far unluckier than made out to be.

Sorry just read my last one back. Didn't mean coaching meant player development officer (is that what it was called?). He would be good for the young ones.

The club couldn't get him on board in a playing capacity. Agree with those who've said it would be a slap in the face to JM and it would fly in the face of the youth movement that is underway. Off the field though, there could be some real benefit in having him fill a mentoring role of some sort.
