Get rid of the infraction system

Surely a system which adds consistency across the Board and provides a measuring stick or benchmark against which to assess and deal with issues must be a good thing.

Surely this removes, or at least lessens the liklihood of similar "offenses" being dealt with differently by different Mods on different Boards.

As well as giving Mods a good guideline against which to Moderate behaviour and defend their actions - surely it also provides a framework against which posters can argue their point if they feel hard done by or treated inconsistently.

We all are susceptible to rough days - emotional issues - not to mention personality clashes with posters........I would have thought that this system removes a bit of the subjectivity surrounding the adjudication of that process......and provides a fairer system for everyone.....??

It is as cconsistent, as there are the number of mods.
EVERY mod applies the infractions differently.

Some will not give infractions to the chosen ones.
Some will give infractions to those they consider nothing more than a 'smart arse'
Avoiding the swear filter on one board attracts an infraction while the same avoidance on another board it acceptable.
One mod will see an infraction and apply 5 points, another mod will see the same infraction elsewhere and apply 1 or 2 points.
A poster will be told to 'pull his head in' after two exchanges with a fellow poster while the same mod will allow 2 or 3 pages of identicle exchanges between 2 different posters

In short it is a debacle, but I conclude that is really the intent, why else would the examples above be not only allowed but never be acted on by the site owner.

Now, I think that would be a fair thing to say?

For instance, how is a novice poster supposed to understand Binxy the mod is happy to have posters tell other posters "To Suck my Balls" and yet the same novice poster would be banned if he said the same thing to Chief.
That is a dilemma solely and purely created by mods and no one else i.e. if the mods have different rules how are the posters supposed to understand what each mods rules are?

that's right........

thankfully Mods still have the discretion to decide whether to close a thread rather than personalising it by infracting the thread starter........

I find that often the former is a better course of action particularly if the poster's actions on that particular day are out of character or influenced by outside factors. In my view, this goes a long way to maintaining a mutual respect.

A smart arse is one that is very likely to incur points considering people are told to not be one.

read the rules of the board. If you are a newbie watch and see what happens on different boards.

Well that just flat out can't be done but feel free to speak without any knowledge.

Some posters have a history of it, others are OK 90% of the time. Also depends on the board.
