Never seen a worse bunch of footballers in my life, absolutely pathetic, unfit, unskilled no passion get stuffed MFC!!!

was actually impressed by the effort a lot of the players put in. everyone looked willing to put their head over the ball and attack the contest. lots of intent in the tackling. Our skills on the other hand

Never seen a worse bunch of supporters in my life, absolutely pathetic, unfit, unskilled, unintelligent, no personal hygiene, manners or style get stuffed RICHMOND!!!

Its not an issue of effort at the moment, or hardness, or a willingness to run. Its a lack of awareness and concentration as to what is happening around them and where they need to be moving to. Too often we saw a chain of handballs just draw all of the players in toward each other while Richmond bore down on them, until the eventual knee-high or missed handball lead to a turnover in the corridor.

That is not the gameplan, and is not proper use of the handball. When you see other teams employ a handball (bar maybe GC and GWS in their back half), they draw players in and leave a player floating for an over-the-top handball as a result. Our players cannot comprehend this at the moment, and instead continue to move toward each other while handballing like they are forming some sort of scrum.

All of our successful forward movement against Richmond was through kicking around the boundary line, which is quite strange given the handball-run through the corridor was the cornerstone of the Bailey attack, and yet somehow the spread is completely lost on the players now.

Midfield coach. Now. (also some midfielders)

I was actually thinking a similar thing at the game yesterday tbh. The current team would have to be in the worst 3 sides I've ever seen wear the Red & Blue. Basic basic skill errors and a gameplan that seems to be unwatchable. How many out on the full kicks did we do yesterday, or kicks to a 1 on 2 contest? The players are dumb and are not playing for each other. Our only A Grade footballer is Frawley. Our midfield is the worst in the comp, by a long way. Every game I've seen in the past few years it seems the opposition have 10 more blokes around the stoppages. We never man the opposition out the back of packs, never!!! Our great young hopes seem lost. Watts still hates to contest in the air most of the time, and Trengove is either carrying an injury or is horribly out of form.

We have not improved at all in the last 5 years. In fact, you could argue we have gone backwards. Granted, the Jurrah incident and injuries to Gysberts and Strauss haven't helped, but would they really have improved our position any further? Thank god for the 2 new teams, or it would be another totally embarassing season, if it isn't already. That's not fair weathered, it's reality unfortunately. We got smashed by a second string Tigetrs outfit. That's embarassing...

We've got to disspell this myth. Right now.

Mitch Clark is an A grader.
Nathan Jones is an A grader.
James Frawley is an A grader...who was towelled up by a selfish, off-centre Jack yesterday.

Agree mostly, At least it was not a blow out, They did keep trying !

Some very very poor skill errors, how many times did I just shake my head !

Should have fallen off! Why bother having a goal umpire if he can be over ridden by a boundary umpire 30 metres off the ball,

Ridiculous,...

Its time to fix all the injuries, play the guys who hove not been getting a game to just see what we have got,

The Season is well an truely Shot, Roll on pre season 2013

Wonder though if I can talk the missus into supporting next year, doubt it.

go dees !!

James Frawley is an A grader...who was towelled up by a selfish, off-centre Jack yesterday.

Frawley was not towelled up by Riewoldt, Frawley forced him out wide every single time and he had to take his shots from 45-50m out on the boundary.

Just because Riewoldt had a few scoring shots does not mean he towelled up Frawley, there's more to defending than just stopping a guy from scoring and it's making it as hard as possible for him to kick goals and Frawley put him in positions where he had a low percentage of kicking the goal.

Anyone who thinks Frawley is our best player has not been watching this year.

Jones is our best player by a country mile, time to get your heads around it!

I'd keep a spot open there for sylvia. He's strung together a few really nice games over the past few weeks. Not quite there yet but he might be finally realising his talents.

Look boys, there's only so much that can happen this year if certain players aren't willing to work hard enough. Come the end of the year and over the next couple of seasons, I really think Neeld will address a lot of these issues with some drafting/trading/cutting/ruthless pre-seasons/ skill work and players learning the Neeld game plan.

No point expecting miracles until then. Pathetic efforts by some, but those players who won't put in, won't stay on.

+1. I think Neeld will be adopting a ruthless mindset at year's end. Too many passengers on our list and he'd rather get players with less "potential" and more grunt, effort and determination. Not sure how much turnover is possible in one off-season, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be the maximum amount possible.

True, Clarke and Jones were neck and neck for best player until a couple of weeks ago. Frawley has been a bit down on form compared to previous years. Still effective, but certainly not the rock he was. Then again - look at what the team's doing around him...

the same Jones most on here wanted to be traded 2 years back?

Yep when he wasn't very good and Frawley actually was our best player. Those guys have been going in different directions since then.

Are you saying Frawley has gone backwards?

Are you saying Frawley has gone backwards?
Absolutely. 2010 was comfortably his best season. He hasn't fallen off to the point of not being a very good player but he isn't playing All-Australain type footy. 2010 Frawley would've been racking up the rebounding possessions with McDonald taking the hardest job most weeks.

I agree, we have definitely gone backwards from the progress we made in 2010 and 2011. Our game plan is boring and uninspiring. Every week we are smashed in the possesion count, we simply don't get our hands on the ball and if we do we don't maintain possession. Our kickin "plan" is non existent and has been for the last 5 years, Jones, Howe and Tom Mac are the only blokes who have improved this year and everyone else has regressed.

What i can't understand is how this group which is nearly the same playing group as last year managed to win 8.5 games is now 3rd last with 2 wins. Mark Neeld came in delaring this group of players were largely not upto AFL standards in training, fitness, skills etc and they have put a lot work and system in place to change this. I am yet to see any of these systems come to fruition, and see any "improvement" in the players and the club. I wasn't expecting miracles from Neeld this year but i wasn't expecting us to be as bad as this. There was light at the end of the tunnel, but now we are just stuck in a dark hole of utter crapness!

Let's not get too carried away.

We won games because we played an unaccountable game style. That's why we were so up and down and conceded big scores in small periods.

Neelds plan will take us a while to learn and master. Our pre-season in retrospect may have been to much to soon, but the benefit has been realized sooner at the expense of more immediate on field success.

I reckon the game plan might look ok if we had more than half a dozen guys who could kick at AFL standard. Purely speculation though with a team chock full of Simon Godfrey's.

There's a big difference between teaching a team a game plan, mentality and work ethic which can get them into the 8, and one which can win them a premiership. I for one, since 2000, was sick and tired of lingering around and just dropping off near to or early in the finals. Too many teams do this. Mediocrity is unacceptable. Give the coaching department and playing group (or what they eventually shape to be the playing group) a few years to prove themselves ffs.
