Hope this bloke gets his fitness up sooner rather than later as he is the missing puzzle piece to develop a truly "elite" midfield.

I think Gus has been servicable but he's not the answer if we're fair dinkum in the not too distant future. It was touched on in the Gus thread that a ruckman needs that killer instinct to influence game. Big X has it in spades from the limited games I have seen him in. Tackles hard and launches at pack marks.

Vicks is developing perfectly (anyone expecting more is deluded) and this is the man to get the job done along side him. I'm aware this is a very early call but have full confidence in bumping this thread in a few games time ;).

would love to see him included - have only read about the man - would be great to see just how he goes - it's not like we are going to blow a top 4 chance if things didn't go according to plan !

He needs at least a month in the VFL to gain fitness. Once he gets this, he then needs to play well at VFL for another 2-3 weeks and deserve his promotion to AFL. We have gone past "gifting" players games. That will be saved from Round 16 onwards to ensure everyone gets a taste of AFL on our list.

could not agree more rooster, sure gus lumbers and trys pretty hard, but he contributes zilch...cant remeber the last mark he took. rarely provides a link through middle of the ground and so on. if someone like X or even Browne can stand up and show a bit, take a few marks, you are quite right the missing puzzle piece will be almost complete

we are desperate for a star ruck to compliment our onball brigade. i am confident we can unearth another kp forward in post/griffiths/vickery/gourdis etc - the only other thing we need is a kp back to take on the monster forwards.

we seem to 'gift' our little players - why not the bigs - Scenario - we are at rd 16 and fighting for a posn in 8 - Gus and Ty get struck with injuries - bring in a 'raw' Browne and X - we miss the 8 (maybe it is worth giving them a shot even just against the bottom 4 )

I'm a bit concerned about the on-going love for Deryckx by some on this board.

The guy wasn't drafted until the rookie draft when he was 23. That's fine - I don't mind taking a shot at a ruckman that late on - history shows they sometimes make it.

But just maybe, - probably in fact - , he was drafted where he deserves, and he's not going to make it. He's shown nothing so far - he hasn't had a chance (practice matches mean absolutely nothing). I'll wait until he's given a go - if he earns it.

If he doesn't, it's because the coaching staff think he's not as good as the alternatives -Browne, Vickery and Graham. Fair enough. Of course I hope he becomes a star rookie ruck like Sandilands or Cox.

But otherwise, it's another Gourdis situation where lots of posters were saying how great he was and how he didn't deserve to miss out on the main draft - and so far he's shown that the recruiters got it right.

I dont see what the love for this guy is on hear. I would rather Browne get a game then this guy any day of the week. He is 23 and hasn't shown much at all. Gus and X are the same age and i would take Gus.

Regardless of whether or not Derickx turns out to be the ruckman we need, we really need to target a Ruckman in this years trade period! Gus is a good/average player and really doesnt give our mids first use which is what we need to because a very damaging side!
