Thanks for the feedback eth. Like I said I thought I'd gone early on Brown as well however if you want to get him into the Bombers (which really you should be keen on) than one of those picks are essential. Won't last till next pick in the late 3rd round you'd suspect.

Adding Craig Bird to the team almost cancels out Lovell apart from Bird being more advanced in years and closer to retirement. Both smaller, inside leaning midfielders who if you picked the Round 1 team after the pre season you'd lean more towards Bird.

Whats your thoughts on Cal Ah Chee if available in the early 20s and your thoughts on an early 20's pick at Hisham Kerbatieh? A genuine small forward is an area that the Bombers need to fill
Cal Ah Chee is a definite one I'd take if he's there, which I somehow doubt. Kerbatieh not so sure about honestly.

Updated first 2 rounds on page 1 of thread including lost 2nd round picks due to 1st round Academy and F/S selections. Would appreciate any thoughts

I mostly like it. I can see Essendon backing themselves and going for Oliver and Weiderman. I think both would be super picks.

Then I thing Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide do get Francis, Curnow and Milera but I'm not sure in what order. McKay and Mathieson are a nice combination for Carlton's picks.

I'm not as convinced by the next run. Ah Chee to Richmond I don't see as a done deal. They could do with Collins to replace Chaplin, Balic would be a good fit and Dunkley they've had a look at and they need that big body in the midfield. The saints should pass over Collins, they have Carlisle and Goddard to last them most of the next decade in key defensive posts. Tucker would be a good fit, Hibberd or Bonner could work, or Partingham/Gresham. Ah Chee might be high on their list as well, Richardson would have a connection through his brother.

Clarke with pick 24. Running half backs are more icing than the cake. Gutrunning mids are more important.

Over Bonner? Yep that's a fair call to make and thanks for the feedback. Already made some minor adjustments since I posted that last night. New pick 24 is Luke Partington but Clarke is available there as well.

Also would love your thoughts on the McKay and Mathieson picks. Gives you a KPD, KPF and inside mid inside the first 10 live picks. A running player would top off a good first round for the Blues

Interesting pick @ 28. Fiorini.
getgaff I would be interested your rational . :thumbsu:

In an ideal situation that pick would be Ryan Clarke which could still happen as he is a good chance to be available at 28, without being a great chance.

Looking at more outside running players Monocle but also wouldn't be surprised if we go tall at some stage. Need to think post Josh Kennedy and develop a tall forward

Thanks Mate what are your thoughts on James Parsons as he has flashed AFL qualities in the TAC and championships , he has terrific speed run and carry for a 189 cm player plus he has great foot skills , the one knock on him at the moment is consistency. If he can address this issue then I think he would be a very handy pick up.

Currently got him going early 3rd round but I'd say he would land anything in between mid second to mid third round. Second and third rounds are shorter in how many draft picks are taken due to first round Academy and F/S bids so I'd say something in the bracket of 30 - 45 would fit for Parsons.

Like you said he is a real outside player and a player that we may even consider with our later 2nd round pick, would be suited to the wide Domain Stadium. If there was another knock on him it would be that he is still raw in a physical sense which may lead to that inconsistency.

As for the tall I think Dylan Smith from Swan Districts would be ideal if available between Rounds 5 and 7.

Good work mate.....what can you tell me about Aidyn Johnson?

Indigenous fellow whose athleticism and agility are the main traits to his game. Provides run and drive on the outside, loves to take the game and uses the ball effectively. His greatest weakness would be lack of inside game and as a largely outside player can go a bit missing when not being fed the ball.

His draft year has been cut down by a quad injury and draft ranking has floated accordingly but tested 4th in the combine for Agility behind Lovell, Morgan and Oliver.

Just curious about Essendon's first two picks - if we think we can snag McKay with our later picks, shouldn't we back our development team, Langford (meant to be our Jack Gunston), ruckmen and Daniher by picking Francis/Oliver or even Francis/Curnow with the thought that Curnow can play forward initially and then progress to midfield as Daniher/Langford develop?

Just feels a lot more dynamic and flexible and Francis just seems like such a huge talent just to let slip - love the Oliver pick though, very left field but honestly feel it's pretty realistic especially if we think he can replicate Ollie Wines a bit. Would be good to have Rioli - it's been a while since we've had a decent small forward but do you think he's worth late 2nd especially with his only exposed form being against division 2 teams? Is his name helping him get up the rankings a bit?

Appreciate your thoughts hepd and I see where your coming from. I can see your point in that you don't think both Weiderman and Ben McKay are needs based players. With really the second and third live picks you can't go too wrong with those picks. One of Oliver/ Curnow is a must draft player. No exception there.

I'm bullish on Weiderman and think once he gets into a AFL system he could be something really out of the box. His lack of exposure in 2015 will cause headaches for recruiters and it will be interesting to see if Essendon go the power forward in Weiderman, tall utility in Francis or the tall forward with greater midfield scope in Curnow.

MY TOP 30 on pure ranking

1. Jacob WEITERING – 195 cm, 94 kg ~ KPD ~ Dandenong Stingrays VIC CNTRY

On pure ranking alone Weitering stands out as the number one pick in my opinion.

2. Callum MILLS – 188 cm, 80 kg ~ INSIDE MIDFIELDER ~ North Shore Bombers NSW

Highest quality mid in the draft. Swans will get another midfield beauty via the academy. Pick 3 lock IMO

3. Darcy PARISH – 180 cm, 74 kg ~ OUTSIDE LEANING MIDFIELDER ~ Geelong Falcons VIC CNTRY

Mills and Parish is a coin toss. On form and exposed form in draft year you'd take Parish but Mills has plenty of credits in the bank before 2015.

4. Jacob HOPPER – 185 cm, 83 kg ~ INSIDE MIDFIELDER ~ North Ballarat Rebels / NSW

Available to GWS and had a solid carnival. Really strong inside player who will bring similar traits to Adam Treloar.

5. Josh SCHACHE – 199 cm, 100 kg ~ KPF ~ Murray Bushrangers VIC CNTRY

Destined to go to the Lions at 2. Well worth a number one pick to the Blues as well. The sentimental outcome would be Brisbane after his late father played there as a goal kicking forward.

6. Aaron FRANCIS – 191 cm, 92 kg ~ DEF UTILITY ~ West Adelaide SA

Versatile player but is best used down back. Projected to go inside the top 5 to 10 picks.

7. Charlie CURNOW – 191 cm, 95 kg ~ FWD / MID ~ Geelong Falcons VIC CNTRY

I’m a fan of the way Curnow plays. Prototype modern player and has all the traits to be a beast in the midfield. Interesting pick come draft night after a drink driving issue came to light on Friday. I've moved him down my actual draft order already.

8. Matthew KENNEDY - 187 cm, 88 kg ~ INSIDE MIDFIELDER ~ Collungullie NSW

GWS lost Treloar via the trade but gain Hopper and Kennedy via the Academy. Like Hopper his strength is contested play and has the body size to be an impact early at AFL level. There will be an early bid on him and GWS should match that.

9. Ryan BURTON - 191 cm, 90 kg ~ GENERAL FORWARD ~ North Adelaide SA

Possibly reaching a bit here but I'm bullish on Burton when he is fully fit. Draft Range: 10 - 20.

10. Sam WEIDERMAN - 196 cm, 94 kg ~ KPF ~ Eastern Ranges VIC METRO
The biggest question mark on Sam is his endurance and defensive pressure. Definite chance to go pick 3 to the Demons as a focal point behind Jesse Hogan but more likely somewhere later insider the top 10.

11. Kieran COLLINS - 193 cm, 94 kg ~ KPD ~ Dandenong Stingrays VIC CNTRY

I'm a big wrap for Collins. Not inside the best 11 in the draft pool but what I love is that he can make an immediate impact at any club he gets to. Not even 18 yet and is already pushing 100 kg. Lock him in a KPD for the next 10 - 15 years. Any club that gets there hands on him has got a ripper KPD.

12. Clayton OLIVER - 187 cm, 85 kg ~ INSIDE MIDFIELDER ~ Murray Bushrangers VIC CNTRY

Stoppage specialist midfielder who just racks up the ball and is a threat when used forward as well. Draft Range: 5 - 19

13. Wayne MILERA - 183 cm, 77 kg ~ FWD / MID ~ Central Districts SA

Explosive player whose best use initially is off HF as he adjusts to full time AFL and builds his body strength up. Could go as early as Essendon's picks and as late as Richmond's first rounder.

14. Harley BALIC - 187 cm, 81 kg ~ FWD / MID ~ Sandringham Dragons VIC METRO

Jack of all trades almost. Interesting to see what role he settles into at AFL level but early days I'd say he is a HF who can play midfield. I'll sat draft range between Gold Coast's first pick and North's first pick.

15. Ben KEAYS - 185 cm, 80 kg ~ BALANCED MIDFIELDER ~ Redlands QLD

Later 1st round Academy bid for the Lions. Any bid would be matched. DEAD SET LOCK to the Lions and a player who could step straight in to a round 1 team. Not elite with speed or class but a ball accumulator who is ready to go in season one.

16. Callum AHCHEE - 181 cm, 72 kg ~ FWD / MID ~ South Fremantle WA

Being an ex Sandgroper Ah Chee is my token West Aussie in the top 20. Exciting talent with upside to play outside midfield. Class act and not 18 till October. Will probably go at a pick somewhere in the teens

17. Rhys MATHIESON - 186 cm, 81 kg ~ INSIDE LEANING MIDFIELDER ~ Geelong Falcons VIC CNTRY

Contested ball winning midfielder. Just an attractor of the ball through hard work and contested play. Not the most polished user but wins it a lot.

18. Jade GRESHAM - 178 cm, 76 kg ~ SMALL MIDFIELDER ~ Northern Knights VIC METRO

Smaller mid forward. Another who I predict to go somewhere later first round to St. Kilda, Hawthorn or North Melbourne.

19. Darcy TUCKER - 183 cm, 79 kg ~ OUTSIDE MID / DEF ~ North Ballarat Rebels VIC CNTRY

His been a slider in my phantom draft. When Adelaide secured pick 9 from the Dangerfield trade he was the player I had them chasing for some extra run and polish on the outside but views change and I'd say his in that same mix of late teens picks as Gresham.

20. Harry McKAY - 200 cm, 94 kg ~ KPF ~ Gippsland Power VIC CNTRY

Could be another Burton here. I've always had him going first round but could go as high as Melbourne's 7 (10 with Academy picks) or go to the end of the first round. Depends a lot of whether Melbourne are willing to bite the bullet with Charlie Curnow at 10 and what they do with pick 3 if it is Weiderman or Parish.

21. Riley BONNER - 191 cm, 81 kg ~ GENERAL DEFENDER ~ West Adelaide SA

Draft Range: mid to late first round

22. Mitchell HIBBERD - 190 cm, 85 kg ~ DEF / MID ~ Clarence TAS

Draft range: mid first - early second round (Bulldogs will be all over him if available IMO)

23. Eric HIPWOOD - 202 cm, 83 kg ~ KPP ~ Caloundra QLD
Another Lions Academy pick. Another rated highly in pure ranking mocks and has all the traits to show why I've just named him later because he really is a development player early. Spend some quality time in the weight room over summer son. Draft Range: FIRST ROUND BID

24. Ryan CLARKE - 185 cm, 84 kg ~ OUTSIDE LEANING MIDFIELDER ~ Eastern Ranges VIC METRO

He's my man this draft, if I could give him an Eagles jumper now I would. Ticks all the boxes in what I want and I'm just hoping and praying that when pick 27 - 28 roll around that he is still on the board. Draft range is late first round - early second round in my opinion

25. Ben McKAY - 199 cm, 95 ~ KPD ~ Gippsland Power VIC CNTRY

The twin of Harry. Shouldn't last any further than thew Bulldogs first picks at start of second round.

26. Daniel RIOLI - 180 cm, 69 kg ~ SMALL FORWARD ~ St Mary's NT

Excitement machine. Interesting to see where he goes. Do Richmond pull the trigger early in search of a genuine small forward or does he last until Essendon's bracket of second round picks. Like Cyril Doesn't need to have 20 plus possessions a game to swing the game and impact it in his teams favour.

27. Thomas COLE - 186 cm, 80 kg ~ MID / DEF ~ Bendigo Pioneers VIC CNTRY
Draft Range: Late first - early/ mid 2nd Round

28. David CUNNINGHAM - 184 cm, 80 kg ~ OUTSIDE MID / FORWARD ~ Oakleigh Chargers VIC METRO

Draft Range: 2nd Round

29. Luke PARTINGTON - 181 cm, 77 kg ~ OUTSIDE LEANING MIDFIELDER ~ Port Adelaide (SANFL) SA
Draft Range: 2nd Round

30. Josh DUNKLEY - 189 cm, 82 kg ~ INSIDE MIDFIELDER ~ Gippsland Power VIC CNTRY

Get him in the right team and he'd be able to play from Round 1. If he ends up at Sydney it will be great for him with the father/ son Swans connection but he will need to bide his time in the NEAFL before earning a regular game at senior level. For a first year draftee enters the AFL already as a good sized midfielder with exposure at Richmond VFL level.

Hey getgaff who do you think Gold Coast will take with 6,16,29 and 56?

Hey getgaff who do you think Gold Coast will take with 6,16,29 and 56?

Hey princ. My thoughts are GC get Sam Weiderman with there first pick (effectively pick 8 including Mills and Hopper), Callum Ah Chee with there second pick (effectively pick 20) at live pick 29 (35 after Academy considerations) I'm predicting a bid on Josh Dunkley that goes unmatched by the Swans. He ends up a Sun and your other pick will be a Adam Saad rookie elevation.

Not a bad draft for the Suns if that's how it pans out. They bring Wiederman in to numerically cover the loss of tall forward Dixon.

Add Ah Chee into the forward / midfield mix. Gold Coast do have a lot of similar players to him (in terms of height and weight) on their list already but so he could become another player.

Dunkley as a taller big bodied midfielder that can step straight in. He's nominated to go to Sydney via F/S but I'm not convinced they will match a mid second round or later bid for him, considering they already will get Mills and have other draft needs to address with there picks

There last pick will be to rookie elevate Saad.

So you get a tall forward with scope to be a power forward, exciting HF/ mid, strong bodied midfielder and Saad who was a revelation down back for the Suns in 2015.

Let me begin by saying I'm the first to admit I've never fully understood the whole points and draft picks business with Academy bids, it has been the pain of my life for the past few weeks as the draft draws nearer.
