thanks getgaff, can't see us taking Luke Ryan that high particularly with Jy Simpkin still on the board.

Thanks for the feedback Jason

Firstly I don't see it as too much of a reach. Ryan has been a popular choice at Sydney's pick 19, pending Academy bids so it is only a couple of picks earlier than most expect. If Witherden is available than that pick would become him or possibly Josh Rotham at a stretch.

An issue with the Lions back line is that there isn't a lot of small to medium sized types. There are a lot of taller (190 cm +) defenders who play short and tall like Cutler for example but apart from Harwood and Claye Beams (both under or around 185 cm) its an area without a lot of depth.

Interesting stat (that I credit to Knightmare) but backs my feelings on this player/ pick is that in 2016 Brisbane conceded 2872 points in the 2016 home and away season, 516 more than Essendon or equivalent to 86 goals and nearly double of Sydney's stingy defence. In Ryan you get a guy who fits the bill and can slot straight into the back line.

No later than end of second round.

Was in my thoughts for Sydney's 2nd pick but thought of a greater need for outside run and carry in the back line and midfield with some extra polish in kicking from the back half as well in Cox. Since 2015 they've lost 2 players who offered that run and carry from defence in Malceski and Rhyce Shaw which hasn't been covered for so much yet.

As quality as I think Logue is the Swans can wait for a KPD till after the first round. I'm leaning towards a mature bodied KPD later on for the Swans, possibly even a state league player that can step straight in.

There's no reason for us to bid on Bowes we have no chance of getting him and are basically just doing a favor for Carlton and giving them their choice of Taranto or SPS don't see the point of doing that

Thanks for the feedback iris, its something i know I can always count on. It's a good call that you make and lets be honest any bid placed will most likely be matched by the Suns but for me I think that sits about right for when Bowes will be bid on, if not by Brisbane than you'd expect Carlton would. Nothing wrong with keeping the team from down the highway honest is there? :D

Interested in your thoughts with Ainsworth and Luke Ryan so far, particularly Ryan because he is a little bit of a curve ball that I've thrown in but I've drafted to a need for smaller to medium defenders there.

I'm a huge fan of Ainsworth he wants to be a Lion helps but Essendon I think will choose he's fate Essendon may choose McGrath if that's the case Ainsworth will be a giants player in 2017 as both Twomey and Anderson believe that the Giants don't favor McLuggage. As for Ryan don't know much about him but would draft a mid at 16 if both Berry and Witherden were drafted.

Your right about interest from GWS in Ainsworth if McGrath isn't available.

GWS have made there intentions clear pre draft to bring in a genuine small forward like Ainsworth as Toby Greene and Devon Smith in particular are now seen as more FWD/ MIDs and not more permanent small forwards.

McGrath is the perfect Heath shaw replacement and Ainsworth is the perfect stevie J replacement. Either way it's a win for the club.

Does Ainsworth possess the same sort of magic of SJ? Or is stevie his own category?

Stevie J is just a freak of a player, for a guy his size he is one in his own I think.

What Johnson and Ainsworth both are is opportunistic forwards but if I was to compare Ainsworth with a current day player it'd be Jamie Elliott.

Similarities between Shaw and McGrath are far more obvious.

How confident are you about English reaching his potential and what kind of timeframe is a club looking at for him to debut (not debut as Sandilands replacement)?

Could the club get better value from for example Taranto early and Olango later?

I'm pretty confident in English reaching his potential, he'll need time and may not even play regular seniors for Peel with Clarke and Griffin a fair way ahead initially however with both Sandilands and Griffin the wrong side of 30, Clarke will be pushing that age by the time that English has had a few more years of senior footy under him.

There will still be some talent on the board for the Dockers and they are being linked to Logue more and more even as a future inside midfielder, the bankable Will Brodie (similar to Mundy) will still be there around that mark as well. I like the pick of English and letting him develop physically in the WAFL but can understand the treperdation behind it to because it's not a classic Fremantle move.

Olango is still raw as well in my opinion. They may take a safer tall option in Logue and look at a bigger bodied ruck late in the draft, someone like Jordan Sweet from SA, Sean Darcy from the Geelong Falcons, Jeremy Goddard as a 4th round or later pick and there's always the option of Darcy Cameron.
