Getting a 'new' car..

..Well my family is. A second hand one.

Now I know there will be a bit of fighting between Ford and Holden here but lets be a little realistic (if thats possible :)) We arent the richest people around so we arent going for a BM or anything. Basically just looking for a family sadan under $20,000.

I like the AU Falcon. Its definatly cheaper then the VX (I think thats the model - with the tail lights that dont go right across [correct me if wrong]). The AUII or the AUIII have come to my liking a lot and especially the AUII Fairmont ($18,950).

As for the Commodore it looks aright. The tail is a bit high though which looks a little ugly. We have a VL at the moment which is fantastic but no car lasts forever. The Commodore is a little more exspesive for the Executive then the Forte for Ford.

If you have the following (or know a bit about em) can you please let me know.

Thanks!

Go for the cheaper one as both cars are so close in value, but if it was me it would be a falcon.

P.S Only buy the V8's if you can aford the fuel bill as there is nothing wrong with the 6's(falcon better 6, Comodore better 8)

The AU series 2 and 3 are a great car and you couldnt go wrong with one:D If it's a series 1 I would give it a miss as the 2+3 have extra features such as front electric windows and steering wheel radio buttons
:D

WTF? Why would you get a VP 11-13 years old when you can get a better car only 2-4 old? Why a V8? they are on a budget so they don't need the higher running costs compared to a 6.So what if it's a calais? Most of the extras you get on an old calais come standard on base model AUII or VX.

I must say that I am very much a Ford person....although in my comparison I would go for the AU even if I wasn't.

If you can get past the styling (something I have never had an issue with) then the AU not only represents a great vehicle to drive...but a reasonably economical and a very safe car. A lot of people criticise the AU series because of its styling intially, but have never been in one...nor have driven one.

I would definately go for an AUII or AUIII....the old adage still remains that you shouldn't buy the first of an aussie made car...it is pretty much true, because you will always get bugs in the first series that are ironed out later.

The VX is a good car, but I would say value for money tips in favour of the AU series.

If you need any more info go to www.fordforums.com

Cheers
