both bad things !!

The umpiring was abyssmal and so was glass. I doubt we'll see too much of glassy this year or any other. Unfotunately, we will stil see more umpiring displays like that.

Fair dinkum, they are spineless puppets at the mercy of the crowd.

Lloyd kicks six, yet Milli gets let off the hook? Lucas kicks three, and now Glass should be dropped?

Both blokes were under some extreme pressure today, but I though Glass really fought back strongly in the second half. And he's still a ten times better option than Carroll.

Mc Phee is Essendons equivelent to Riewoldt, can see all the teenyboppers at Bomberland wearing his number. :D

Happy the shockers gave him up. ;)

Cheers. I think some of the centre bounces were definately in our favour but some of the umpiring was clearly reactive to the crowd.

Chick spent enormous amounts of time on the bench. You'll find when McPhee was playing well/kicking goals .... it was Andrew Embley who was on him.

free kick count was even, they just got their's ... some very soft ones around their fwd.50 .... not sure whether the TV picked it up, but after Lloyd was not paid a push in the back, he laid a huge elbow, in the head of one of the eagles behind play.

There were a couple of bad decisions for the Dons as well. There was a free kick in the pocket 40m off but the advantage should have been allowed to Lucas but it wasn't. Kerr threw the ball 20m out and that wasn't called. There were a couple of others as well.

Glass running into a goal with the fight of the ball somehow managed to fall over with the closest bloke 10m away ??

This was a crucial time in the game - essendon rebounded to kick a goal. The guy is not up to AFL standard.

Hmm.. I'm past master of finding a scapegoat, and bringing out the flaming torches and pitchforks after a loss, but I don't think you're being very fair.
Glass was abysmal last year, but he seems to have taken the next step this season. He was not our worst today, not by a long margin- in fact, fwiw, I reckon he was our best defender today- in terms of talls, he had a solid 50/50 duel with Lucas. Meanwhile, Milli was totally humiliated by Lloyd. As for falling over in the goal square, it was happening to people from both teams all day, all over the ground. Fact is, Colonial is a dreadful, dreadful ground, and a public liability suit waiting to happen.

If you were going to drop Glass for his performance, the following talls would also be gone, since they had far worse games: McIntosh, Carroll, Jakovich. Step up Hansen, Tuckey, Johnson and Lynch? Not hearing a lot of support?? Move along then.

I think you will find that Glass ran hard at goal and when the ball arrived it was a metre behind him.

for my two cents ... you say Glass fell over ... tis true ... but I was truly astounded to see how many players slippedl over today. Literally astounded.

Can anyone suggest why?

It's not an excuse for Glass, after all, he should have kicked it, but I'll give him an A for effort and creativity on that play, which compared to a lot of others today, is enough to make you cry.

I think Glass just needs time, but I am very encouraged on his performances of the last few weeks, and may I add my voice to the chorus of "I happy with his progress".

If we are going to persist with Jako at CHF, which I think is the way to go for the time being. I'm all for Gaspar or Lynch at CHB, and Glass at FB.

Dont like to blame the umps for a loss and I won't this time, even though I haven't seen the game as of yet.

Too disapointed to comment on the game yet as well - will do so tomorrow when I'm a little more rational.

How good were the Bombers, sorry to discuss it here, but we can't on the main board because it is a fight between you & the shockers.

The Bombers played well. We unfortunately only played well in patches. Still not sold on Essendon making the 8 though.

The umpiring was shocking, both sides got some strange decisions and some downright awful decisions. The centre bounce too was beyond belief. It's extremely frustrating to watch an umpire bounce the ball...it goes 20 metres in the oppositions direction to a free opposition midfielder, who turns and plants it onto the chest of a forward? How is that fair?

Im all for the bounce....but why oh why cant they call it back if it is a bad bounce? It seems so simple, yet with the AFL, it never is.

I thought Essendon were very good ..... here is my eagle bias .... you wanted it more, plain and simple, henceforth, you did the things, tackling, first to the ball etc.. that win games ..... which leads me to my bias, I think when we showed glimpses of our best, we were the better team. Just on the day, we were outplayed.

Now as for this missing players, that the crowd were telling me would have made a difference?

Well, I don't think your midefield would have operated better with Misiti, if anything, maybe worse, he never striked me as a hard player, which won you the game ....

Fletcher? Well, He would have played on Haynes, and I could not have seen him playing him any better than the guy at FB. He kicked 2.2, mostly off good leads .....

Hird - Well, he is Hird, but how many games a season can you count on him?

Peverill - How great has he been lately? (I was being sarcastic).

I know on paper it adds a lot, but you know what you can do with paper. Hird is the only one I would have been worried about, but as I said, how often is Hird at his tops? Alternatively, I don't think Fido would have made any difference today.

rant over
