sort of along the same lines but for spam is a program by firetrust called"mailwasher"

it allows you download mailheaders off of your email clients just like news groups, but you can select the email you want to download to your computer or add to blacklists

Can you give some more info ??

Not sure what you mean by "using tab for the last week".

With regards to spyware etc - if you're using a mac the system will ask for admin rights before propagating any virus.... you can say "no"...

Re-installing windows sounds a bit drastic !

Glad it worked out though. :)

Im not sure if this has been answered, because some of the stuff in this thread is kinda confusing but I was wondering If anyone could help me with my problem.
Whats been happening is while im on the net I've been getting these constant popup ads telling me my computer has viruses/errors etc. and that I should go to some site for the fix. These popups say 'Messenger Service' on the top and look quite 'official' (they fool my younger sisters anyway). Is there anyway of fixing this? I use XP however im not sure its a legit version...

On New Years day i got hit by spy sherriff. A bitch of thing that installs itself changing your desktop and presenting an annoying pop up telling you that your computer is infected and they must buy the full version of spy sherriff to eliminate the problem. It took my mate and i 2 days to get rid of it as we had no internet access and we were almost sucked in to buying the full version, when we didnt know that spy sherriff was the actual problem.

Anyone been hit by this?

I had the same thing a few weeks ago.....and it drove me nuts:(

I tried spybot and adaware but it didnt fix that ******* spy axe.
In the end the only way I got rid of it was by re-installing XP and Office.
Sorry.....wish i could help more:eek:

read thru the thread today.
i have both spybot and adaware installed and run them at least once a week. but in the last two or three days my computer takes more than twenty minutes to load certain sites pages, if at all, bigfooty and HHQ are not affected but other sites i have in my 'favourites' just wont load.
i've ran both spybot and adaware and picked up a few spyware glitches but neither have fixed the problem.
i can't even get microseft.com to load up, or download.com to try and get another cleaner.

any suggestions?

cheers.

Nasty little spyware really ********s you off. If you are using XP or 2000, makes sure you TURN OFF your SYSTEM RESTORE otherwise you will keep restoring the crap. Download the latest updates (if you can) of Spybot and restart your computer in SAFE MODE and run Spybot from here.

I would delete your cookies and files in your prefetch folder.

You'll need to check your registry. Download Hijackthis software and see if you can find a forum where someone will help you spot the problems and tell you how to clean it. There are plenty of forums on the internet that has advice.

thanks dee molisher, but it didn't work. i'm still having the same troubles.

while i was in safe mode i was able to detect a couple of spyware glitches that i wasn't while running my comp normally however, deleting them hasn't changed the situation.

any other suggestions?

downloading a newer version of adaware at the moment. will try that first. if that doesn't work i'll try and get my head around the stuff on 'major geeks'.

I use Spybot but I am having trouble with some spyware called expedioware. Can someone please help me get rid of it for good. I use spyware and adaware but it isnt working.

Thanks!:thumbsu:

my pc automatically downloaded some updates for windows and hey presto the problem was solved. quite strange, but i'll take it.
thanks for the feedback anyway guys.

If i ever catch or meet any of these malware programers i will ring his kneck and beat him to a pulp. Starting of with that knob who won gold at the winter olympics. While he is driving around in his flashy sports car earnt from creating malware we have to suffer. I seriously want to know where he lives.

Anyway now over night my computer was infected badly by malware. I have had this before and it just won't go away. Sure you can uninstall all these "spyware apps" but they just sit on the task bar and won't go away no matter what you use. And to get rid of them you have to go deep inside the registry change things around and hope you don't stuff up your os. So you might as well reinstall windows.

I found after spending all day trying to fix this that creating a new profile gets rid of the sys tray pop ups, but as soon as you get hit again it all re apears.

IS there anything out there than will just get rid of malware?

I highly recommend some software called Spyware Doctor. This found spyware on my machine that Adaware and Spybot, didnt.
I just tried that and it certainly seems to find a lot of extra stuff. However, it seems that you can't actually delete the files unless you pay for a registered copy?

Just find a serial..i did. A lot of these spyware and malware removers are a farce. They calim to remove the infections and find them but want you to pay for the privilage. And to make matters worst a lot of the malware removers actually add files too make it seem you are full of bots etc.

My concern is removing that annoying spyfalcon icon that flashes on my taskbar. No matter what you do it won't go away.

I am suprised too see that spyfalcon is still around.
