After the complete disintegration of the hopes and dreams of the Richmond supporters on BigFooty I thought I might change the topic a little as it is getting very boring.

One thing that might be of more interest is to ask some questions of current coaches and why they are employing the same old strategies?

We know that in AFL football there are some certainties.

1) The drafting system provides no advantage or disadvantage to any club, except for the odd leap year when you pick up a father son.

2) The current training methodologies provide a relatively even fitness base across all AFL clubs for good or bad.

3) Match day coaching matters little except in finals or towards the end of close matches - bare with me on this one.

4) Each team receives relatively the same amount of home games - give or take.

So where can a coach get the edge over other teams, and how long will it take to execute?

Well I have thought of a couple of things over the years and they might be tripe but there are some smart cookies in amongst this website, so fire away.

These are some ideas.

1) Employ a buddy system to recuiting. I.e When recruiting players, interview them all beforehand (onerous I know - but worth the effort). Ask them who the best players were that they played on in the last 2 years, some might not have even put down for the draft. Use that valuable data to secure better players, grab rookies who might be guns, go and get unknowns to sign up for the draft and grab them late. Recruiters are so over-rated.

2) Make them train in wetsuits. Yeah it's hot and restrictive but why not? Make them stronger and quicker (similar to underwater training). Take off the shackles and watch them go.

3) Why can't they use more sophisticated software during the matchday. Like in the cricket or using GPS, develop a tracking system for all players and use the software live to record succesful ball movement strategies, winning formulas and weakness areas. I am simplifying things for the purpose of this thread but WHERE IS THE SOFTWARE. Watching from the Lips of Lethal made me realise how pathetic the match day coaching really is and how arrogant they are to think one person can do the job effectively.

4) Involve the crowd in the strategy. Why can't clubs post on their websites ideas about chanting or the like. For example on the Hawks website in Round 1 why can't they say come onguys every time the Hawks are needing some help let all you roar a chant and include a WAV file of the chant of the week. Intimidate other clubs, let us supporters help.

Now if your reading this and you think I am mad, well I worked 15 hours today so I am tired. Also please don't come on and bag my ideas because I am already aware that they are not so good. But if you can be bothered, post your ideas at how clubs can become innovative and step out of the past with their strategies.

Help your club by giving them an idea or two!!!

Say like... building a team with a dominant spine over a team of fast midfielders? :p That's employing an old strategy instead of foreseeing how the game will be played in the future :D

About your ideas they are fantastic!! Really and trully great, I am surprised these aren't already in use! :thumbsu: The wet suits and the crowd chant ideas are the best.

.

clarko is actually a visionary...he believes whats old actually becomes new again ..so by employing the tactics that won the Legendary Tom Hafey 4 flags more than 30 years ago . like flared pants and body shirts, lil clarko is certain this tactic will return ...Nevermind the two combatants in last years GF had about two decent KPP between them:confused:
