According to this article on the AFL website this morning Guthrie has opened talks with the club for a contract extension:

Ratugolea is one of 18 players at the Cats without a deal for next season, including skipper and unrestricted free agent Joel Selwood, who is poised to sign a one-year deal, and reigning best and fairest Cam Guthrie who has opened talks on an extension.

Gryan Miers is in protracted talks for a multi-year deal, while Gary Rohan, Quinton Narkle, Lachie Henderson, Brad Close and Charlie Constable are among others unsigned.

I thought Cam went to work in second quarter last week and helped get the game back on our terms. He then drifted off again but the job was done. He needs to be hunting the ball.

I think combination of injury and mid season malaise effected him.

I think he will be cracking in when it matters.

Apart from last year, Cam has never been a guy to maintain the intensity week in week out. But he has been one of our better finals players over last 5 years.
 
He only has a few years of footy left. Getting close to 30? Just finish your last 3-4 years here and then move. No point wasting the best years of your career after establishing yourself, at a shithole club like the gold coast suns.

I think it might honestly depend on if we’re able to win the flag this year
We all seen how much it meant to him making last years GF.
If we were to win I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he left for $$$ at GC.
If we’re close again that might get him to stay

Forget Gold Coast, Guthrie would be a perfect addition to Brisbane's midfield if they can afford him.

I think they do.They're better than last year but they don't have the sort of quality (inside) midfield depth top teams usually do imo. The rest of their team is stellar

Its funny how clubs get a run of talent. Watching the match between VicC and VicM today ... a NGA kid that is tied to Melb impressed Mac Andrew ... what may or may not happen. It depends if someone bids on him in the first round Melb can not match, but if he slips thru to our picks ..bad luck he goes to melb. As if the need another 200 cm athletic tall player.

Metro flogged the Country side..and it was almost half paced at times but one can see Darcy and Daicos going very early.


A kid called Gibcus will probably land at GWS. I do like the look of Conway but I doubt we take another long term ruck.

I think people look into these sort of things way too much Jeremy Cameron has spent most of the season with his partner interstate, they work around it when push comes to shove more often than not just doesnt play out in the public eye usually.

Bombers on the way up again. Fat chances you will get players from there in the next few years, not unless they can't get a game.

No chance we will lose all of them. If we lose one or two, the others will stay for opportunities and contract extensions.
