Doesn’t sound too bad… may have been a lingering issue they were aware of if it’s bone fragments. Unless he has had a recent fracture or bone growths they are removing due to irritation of the bones causing extra growth… but if it’s not a new injury, I am not as concerned.

Also depends what tissue structures they had to cut through to reach the bone… there are a lot of muscle layers in the foot both superficial and deep.. but some bone is more superficial and easily accessible leaving muscle fascia and ligament structures more intact.

So it really depends.. and I don’t have the info so I can only assume like with max holmes grand final week

Given the club's reaction it seems like it might've been a more minor, arthroscopic sort of procedure. Hopefully only a 4-6 week recovery.

Could be wrong, but I interpreted that as the surgery was done weeks ago? He's in Europe right now isn't he?

Say it is 4-6 weeks, and it was done a few weeks back, he might not miss much training at all.

I have a feeling we are one of the clubs interested in Scott Lycett as a mature aged backup ruck. It seems he will make a decision this week on whether he'll retire or join a new club.

I heard he'd put off his Europe trip due to the foot.

My sources told me he had a flare-up again.

Scott Lycett come on down...
There's no flare up - can 100% confirm that. The surgery was pre-planned as an after season clean up which was always what was agreed.

Clearly we don't want to see the words Conway and surgery in the same sentence but it's a non issue I'm told.

How long ago was the surgery done?

Not sure of the exact time but the person I spoke to said he stayed back instead of taking off on a trip with a few others. So based on the discussion I got the feeling that the surgery was not long after the season had finished.

It wasn't anticipated that the surgery would not have any impact on pre-season. There were a few others in the same boat.

Sorry, did you mean to say it was anticipated the surgery wouldn’t have any impact on his pre season? Or that it would have??

I thought this also, but not sure Lycett would be bothered moving interstate for a single year contract on low-ish money, which is presumably what we (and anyone else) would offer at this stage. I guess this may be factoring in to any decision he has about retiring/playing on

The H.S view.

HS still struggling to distinguish between "physically-developed" and "ready-made". Stevens would get absolutely torched playing in an AFL midfield next year.
I'm not across the details. I rely on the likes of Pure_Ownage for info. Just thought it might be of interest.

No it won't have any impact.

My source said that the prosthetic foot had attached well and Conway would not have a delayed start to pre-season. The glass eye might take a little longer to get used to though but the club doctor is looking into it.

Going to the AFLW games it gives an opportunity to check in on Chucky - other than being on crutches for Mad Monday, I haven't seen him on them since and he doesn't look hampered

It's been good to see him at those games and jogging back to the rooms after quarter time huddles - I'm taking that as a good sign his recovery is going well
