Mate, you can join the Army. Not pay for food, electricity, gas, water, get 17% super and take home $86k on the most basic job.Average wage in Australia is $105k pa - that means there are a lot of people out there on a lot less than that to make $105k the average - particularly considering minimum full-time wage is something like $50k.
If they weren't kicking a footy around, at 19 years old, they'd be living at home, going to uni (and then hoping to get a grad job paying likely less than average wage - depending), learning a trade, or back-packing through Europe on a shoestring budget. They wouldn't be looking to buy property anyway.
In the grand scheme of things, I doubt they're complaining by hanging on to an AFL list - even as rookies.
Proof on this please.Well, Stevens was out of contract so he's dropped nothing
While KM-F has a contract for next year and that will still be paid out to him in 2026; it hasn't simply been ripped up and paid out this year
Just need to look at other clubs around the league who've delisted senior listed players that have "retired" with a year to go on their contracts, but to balance out the clubs TPP, the player will be delisted before being re-selected via the rookie draft to allow their final year of salary payments to fall in the correct year - while also opening up a senior list spot. That's exactly what's happened with the likes of
2023
Sydney - Sam Reid
GWS - Adam Kennedy
2022
GWS - Phil Davis
Adelaide - Paul Seedsman
2020
Adelaide - Bryce Gibbs

Yeah - but you've got to join the army to get it - and there are a number of trade-offs in that decision.Mate, you can join the Army. Not pay for food, electricity, gas, water, get 17% super and take home $86k on the most basic job.
Add that up.
Yeah trueYes/No
If someone else picked up KM-F we'd have to fork out the difference between his rookie salary at this new club and the 2nd year salary owed to him as a national drafted player - I remember that issue being raised back when we delisted Oscar Brownless & Ryan Abbott
St Kilda picked up Abbott as a DFA, so not sure what happened in regards to his salary but we were able to re-draft Brownless and didn't take a hit, but it was mentioned it another club drafted them that they'd only need to offer a rookie contract and we'd need to pay the difference with what was owed
Not sure if things have changed on that front
This is a waste of everyone's time tony. Let's just forget itI didn't ignore it. I read it.
I asked for proof.
Just building on this - the existing contract isn't torn up and paid out. Two things can happen - he nominates for national draft, and then if a club picks him up on the senior list, they pick up his second contract year and we don't have to pay it. If nobody drafts him in the national draft, then he goes to our rookie list under our pre-commitment, and we still pay him what he was owed under his second year of the original contract. If we didn't commit to putting him on the rookie list, then we would have to pay him out once all player movement windows are completed and before start of next season. (Termination provisions are under clause 11 of the CBA).Here you go then since you conveniently ignored it on the previous post

I personally think our 2nd pick will be Mellor. As we only have 2 picks in the draftAny good speedy outside midfielders with good footskills that we can get with our 2nd pick?
Think of it like returning a book to the library and then taking it out again soon after. What does it mean for Stevens and Matofai-Forbes to be delisted from the senior list but re-selected via the rookie draft?

There actually aren't trade offs. Been there, done that.Yeah - but you've got to join the army to get it - and there are a number of trade-offs in that decision.
(Strayed off topic a little bit!)

The education part there seems not that easy. I think uni degrees are limited to officers. I also had someone work for me once who was in comms and instrumentation in the navy but somehow didn't walk out ticketed for anything.Free health and dental, education.

CTTF has done all of those things in the past year, just for leisure. There was a lack of 'ticketed' degrees.
It's all changed. If you go for a higher level and leave early they actually charge you. Just like hecs.
But yes, the degrees are still done through adfa.
But let's not be stupid. It's easy to earn $100k if you want it.
And hey, ever hang out of the back of a plane on a harness taking photos?
Ever been skinny dipping for months straight with females, getting back to barracks at 6 am and then going for a run at 7:15?
You've never lived.
