it may be that gia will never be the 1st option onballer that we hoped for, but he has enough strings to his bow to be a versatile footsoldier.

by the time johno gives up the captainhood, I think someone younger will probably be n line for it, however.

TRADE HIM FULLSTOP.

The guys that were drafted around his time have gone past him.

He has no real obvious assets in his game. He does not possess any great qualities and dont say leadership he could not lead kids into a lolly shop. eg of players that have gone past him and developed strenghts to their game Gil - Kicking, Hahn - strength, Hargrave - defensive game along with good disposal etc.

Trade him for whatever you can get for him.

To those that say Gia is soft, I'd suggest going back and watching our first game against North Melbourne this year. Wore a big hit from Archer early on in the game in a marking contest and got split open. Then later on in the game went full steam ahead against a charging Archer to get a ball on the ground. When looking at poor leaders this year, Gia is far from the top of that list.

You are forgetting the numerous times Gia panicked and turned the ball over, particularly in the backline... The times he didn't chase hard... And the number of tackles he wasn't able to stick. Agree the guy puts his body on the line but...there is a lot of negative as well.

Could be a servicable fwd pocket - can take a grab and kick a goal (provided we're not 5 points down with 30 seconds to go:rolleyes:).

Will never be an on baller and will be captain over my dead body:thumbsd:

When he's on he's a valuable link man. He has problems with his game though and if he's not serious about addressing them, then give him the boot. If he is 100% serious, keep him on and teach him more.

I'm actually the opposite to what a lot of you guys have been saying, I've never really been a big Gia fan, but this year he was far from our worst player, and while hardly something to be proud of, he has worked on his goal kicking greatly and is very reliable there now. He's a good leader and if the guys look up to him, listen to him and all the rest, then I don't see why he shouldn't be captain.

Besides, being captain doesn't make you the only source of inspiration, why should we need a perfect captain? Shouldn't we be looking for a collective group of great leaders who can do the job without the tag of 'captain', particularly in each positions?
