Hi all,

This is not specifically on topic, but rather than create a specific thread for this, I'll place it here and a reminder in the Forum Rules thread, to gain maximum exposure.

I note that this relates to a practice that has happened on this board, and indeed on most boards within BigFooty, and I have done it, so no-one's pointing fingers specifically at anyone in particular. But please comply so we don;t have problems going forwards.

NewCorp has expressed concern about whole articles (or close to) being cut and pasted onto this site. News claims it breaches their copyright. Posters here are the publisher of each of their posts, so you (as an individual) might be liable for any breach of copyright where you have copied material from another source.

If referring to material from a source outside of this website, the accepted rule on BigFooty is that users may quote one or two paragraphs only and include a link to the full article.

Mods are being asked to remind posters of this requirement:

5. No illegal content; respect copyright owners
  • Articles from other sites should be limited to a relevant paragraph or two and a link to the source.
Please adhere to the above site rules so that the Mods don't need to involve themselves in your posting.

Further to the above, here is the request that site management has made to Moderators:

Warn Users

There is a new Warning to apply to posts which you believe to contain infringing material - mainly full copies of news articles:

Possible copyright material.

The user will get this message with the Warning:

=============

This post looks like it may contain re-published material from another source:

You are the publisher of your posts, so copyright holders are within their rights to request the removal of their material, and to take action against you for breach of copyright if you do not.

Please remove any posts which contain, for instance, full articles from news organisations or material which might otherwise breach the copyright of a third party.

You may of course retain small portions of material which you are directly commenting on, and link to the source - just edit the post and take out the excess material, and link to the source if you have not already.

Posting or failing to remove such material could be against our terms of service:

Terms and rules

You must agree to these terms and rules before using the site.

15. Copyright and trade mark policies

15.1 It is Big Interest Group’s policy to respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable international intellectual property law (including, in the United States, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act) and to terminating the accounts of repeat infringers.

So please remember, when using material that may be the copyright of another party, you must:

  • Use only that portion you are directly commenting on. A reasonable guide might be a paragraph or two.

Did he want only Gold Coast,
or did he want the club in Canberra instead?
Unfortunately no one wanted a club in Canberra:( . When Norths turned down the $100 million offer to relocate to the Gold Coast, Andy D decided to go long term by having us and Gold Coast enter at almost the same time. He got the rest of them on side by the extra broadcasting $ due to the extra ninth game and an additional Sydney presence.

Caroline Wilson saying that the AFL should have more focus in NSW as the game is floundering there. But I’m frustrated with the repeated foreshadowing that all our derbies should be played in SCG!

**“The AFL has dropped the ball there and the clubs in Sydney are frustrated and the broadcasters are angry. The state that has one third of the Australian population is providing one or two per cent of the footy talent."

Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd quizzed Wilson on how to fix the problem."You've got to promote the game better, for a start," she replied. "I mean, there was no real promotion of Sydney versus Greater Western Sydney at the SCG (at the weekend).
"The AFL is thinking of moving both derbies to the SCG. "You start the season in Sydney earlier so it has a chance to take on rugby."**

Stop pushing to play our games at the SCfucckingG.
It’s not our home, this isn’t Melbourne where you only need a different name and colours to be “another club”.

I loathe this idea with my very being.

Stupid VFL fishbowl bullshit.

Want to make us relevant in Weatern Sydney? Stop with the part time bullshit and promote.

Give Canberra team 20.

3. Toby Greene (GWS)

“As a small forward it’s hard enough playing this position in general let alone captaining your team. It is probably harsh that this bloke is three."

“Round 1 he had 19 disposals and four goals, Round 2 had 18 and four, had a quiet game in Round 3, then in Round 4 it was 18 and two, 24 and three (Round 5), 22 and two (Round 6) and 22 and four (Round 7).

Adam Kingsley said as soon as he walked in, the leadership from Toby has been so good and he’s relied on him so much to understand the players. Coming from a coach that’s impressive.

“But then for what he’s been able to do on field, you sit back and think that he always oozed leadership potential. He was a little bit of a ratbag early, but he’s matured and he’s been exceptional this year.”

Quite interestingly, unlike the rest of us mere mortals, Callaghan now makes do with 205 bones, rather than the regulation 206, after having a sesamoid bone removed from his foot. I didn’t even know this could be done but seeing as he’s averaging 21 touches and six marks a game this season, the operation appears to have been a success!

He’s also averaging about 85% game time, which is above average for a 20-year-old and undoubtedly suggests that coach Adam Kingsley is confident in his ability to run out a game.

Ceiling

He’s tall, he runs well, he is a penetrating kick, and he is a ball magnet. Logically, those attributes suggest he could be one of the best players in the competition. His size means it is a bit more straightforward for him to build a bit more of a contested game, but if he could also manage to hit the scoreboard (two goals in 12 games so far) more often then his value would further increase.

Anyone who didn’t see Finn on :60 last night …. Slobbo’s first question was “how invested are you in staying at gws?”
I like Robbo normally, didn't like that question

Hopefully his answer was "100% all the way" ...?
Was better than that. He elaborated on what he loved about the club, the town and dreams being part of the Giants first premiership

Watching Jimmy Bartel tonight on Footy Classified being strong, combative and articulate on matters such as zones, fixturing and COLA made me think this bloke is ready to lead our club.

He’s always been feisty and he never takes a backward step, I think it’s time for him to take the reins and for Matthews to move back into the AFL Executive.

Matthews has done some good things and after starting out quite well has slipped into a CV building leader.

I think it’s time for him to move on and for Bartel to take us to the next level. If Phil retires I’d love for him to step straight into the Board and be groomed as the future boss.

Obviously there is an assumption on Bartel’s want to elevate himself to that position and whether he has the corporate governance skills but man I wouldn’t want anyone else to fight the good fight, he won’t roll over for anyone.

I don’t know, he has always rubbed me the wrong way since he was on the radio saying them and they instead of us and we when referring to the Giants last season.

Could be, let’s face it most likely, reading it wrong.
Rule 1 of media training for ex players is exactly that. Speak as an outsider.
In this instance he should be talking as a Giants person, but that training is hard to break (once you finally get it)

Eddie McGuire would certainly give the giants some profile if he replaced Sheppard. He also lived in Sydney so knows the market, plus has just about more connections than anyone in Australia. Is good mates with Bartel they do a podcast together.Yes he can be insufferable at times, but he built the pies into a behemoth they are now and has massive cut through in the Sydney media.

I was speaking to the giants CEO this week and have a lot of info on what they are doing to engage new fans, I will share with the board once our conversations have finished. They are doing a bit more than I thought which is good and Matthews seems to be working hard behind the scenes.

Eddie is a racist and was the president of a club that had scandal after scandal in his tenure, he would be a terrible appointment, would be such a poor reflection of everything this club is trying to build

No to McGuire. The guy is loathed up here. Was kicked out pretty much.
And if you dont think the NRL papers up here dont remember his "Land of the Falafel" comments and other attempts to hurt the sport up here, such as fighting to kill our start up then Ive got some bad news.
That's before we get to the part where he is a sexist, racist, bigot.

Would really hope Matthews is working hard as we need it big time. Hopefully he is pounding the dirt in the grassroots of WS and getting feedback from them, instead of people who have never been to WS. Look forward to reading.

The club is lacking that figurehead post sheedy. If you want someone that will defend the club, promote the club any time he has his face on tv (which is always), he would be good. He also has contacts within 9, which has the Sydney papers and radio, news ltd, politicians, celebrities etc.

I think he would have learnt from his past mistakes and would put the club back on the map.

I understand he isn't everybody's cup of tea, but just an idea with the suggestion of Bartel as someone that will publically defend the club (which I agree), but unfortunately he'd have no cut through in the Sydney media like a McGuire would have.

He was fired from running 9 up here. No we don't want him as a figurehead. He hated the place and acted as such, we would be a joke if he was now our supposed saviour.

It doesnt matter if he has learnt, I doubt it, he has done these things and the media up here all have long memories, as do fans.
