Hard one. If you compare him against all the hype then yes I guess for a number 1 pick in a 'super-draft' he's been disappointing. No doubt will be a decent player, only held back by his timidity.

The way certain people have been parroting on about him yes, I expected better.
Still though, this was quite impressive :)

Had a good first year, check his stats, aren't too bad. Also, Pagan played him mostly out of the back pocket to shut down big names. Will be a star no doubt about it, anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know much about footy, he has it all in front of him.

He's only been dissapointing in the context of how much he was hyped up. There were plenty of Carlton supporters giving us lines like, "will be better than Judd etc" then they complain when BF judges him harshly. He's in many ways a victim of going #1 in one of the best drafts ever and certainly the most hyped one. The level of attention on last years draft was insane and it's unsurprising that the top draftees cop a bit of flack for it.

I mean you take a look at Gumbleton, has played 4 games, been pretty solid, taken a fair few marks, kicked a couple of goals, not too bad for a first year kp (particularly one that had no pres season and suffered a pretty serious hamstring injury taking him out for 6 weeks in the middle of the season). Yet the overwhelming majority of opposition supporters will say he's been quite dissapointing based on the hype.

It's just the current environment at the moment. Supporters are expecting more and more from draftees before they even reach physical maturity. Top draft picks are seen as 'saviours' as bottom clubs rely on them to be able to rebuild successfully and there is basically ongoing hype wars between supporters.

I wouldn't really say disappointing.

The guy lacks talent, he is a spud, and he is living up to his mediocrity level.
Will never be anything more than a fringe player, but seeing as Carlton have a lack of good players he will continue to get a game there.

Good chance he will be delisted or traded in a couple of years when Carlton wake up and realise they drafted a spud.

What the heck was Gibbs trying to do in that clip Arcadion posted. It looks like hes trying to bicycle kick a ball on the floor

I know many Carlton supporters and they are all shattered at how ordinary Bryce Gibbs is in most facets of the game. They all say that they wish they had chosen Sellwood or Luenberger.
I guess it's just another in the long list of draft blunders that have contributed to them filling their destiny at the bottom of the ladder.

In fact this time next year we will be talking about the blues lining up for priority picks yet again. :)

Will be a class player, but the amount of hype from carlton ment he was always going to be a let-down first year to their standards
If i was carlton i would of picked Leuenberger or Selwood personally, but oh well, their recruiting over the past few years has been average as hell

He's going to be fine going forward, but I think it would be silly to suggest that he hasn't been disappointing.

I mean, he was considered to be a better prospect than Joel Selwood and Travis Boak, yet his play this year hasn't been better than the play of those guys.

He's still every chance to break out next year, but he hasn't even really given that one brilliant superstar performance that shows everyone what he will do going forward.

By comparison, Cooney was a standout #1 pick from SA who had played SANFL seniors, and everyone expected that he was going to walk right in and dominate, but he ended up struggling for much of the season. However, even Cooney put together a string of great games at the end of that season that gave everyone a glimpse.

Unless Gibbs really comes through in a big way this weekend, then I'd say purely on the basis of not getting one breakthrough game, his season has been a disappointment.
