Gillard speech

Surely you aren't serious?

She wants the mining companies to stop an active campaign, that's working, based on nothing except the removal of embarrassing govt ads and a word change.

Why should they?

The purpose of advertising is to convince undecided people of the merits of your product.
The purpose of advertising is not to see who has got the biggest dick.

For the amount of money that would be spent in the present climate on ads, how many people do you think would come across to the Mining Sector's point of view as distinct from people who would be turned off ?

It would almost be a given that the ads would be pulled.

Gillard along with Rudd, Swan and Tanner were the architecs of the 40% mining super tax, the illegal immigrant policy, the home insulation disaster , the education " rip off " building project " , the ETS scheme that would have cost thousands of Aussie jobs and businessesa with NO effect on the so called weather changing effect, health reforms that dont eventuate and or rip off the states and territories , greens loan scheme scrapped, the whaling action against japan watered down , the cost of the so called computers for all kids ...most of the costs to be by the STATES not the Fed Govt , grocery and fuel watch dumped , only about 40 pre scholl kids schoools built when 269 were promised , only 3 super GP clinics built when 36 were promised, a few hundred houses for aboriginals supposedly to be built has produced less than 50 , broke his promise not to change the 30 % private health insurance rebate , broadband ...they wont tell the people what the cost will be to them AND no REAL deal has been produced or a time fram given to the start and completion of it .Took away money for the AGED people and put it else where to prop up some other aspect of the health system.
etc etc etc etc ..... Gillard is a part of it all .

All that has changed is the leader but the policies are the same .

AND now in a press conference she just TELLS the mining companies to cease their ADDS against the 40 % mining super tax and to open their minds up.

BYE BYE Gillard and the ALP

she was incredibly impressive. Abbott must be shitting his speedo's, seriously.

"The mining industry want negotiation, well, now they have it."

I would have thought you would understand the mechanics of negotiation a little more clearly

I too thought she was impressive. Better when answering questions than reading the prepared script but she got the message out that I believe the ALP wanted and that is the line she used at every opportunity to the miners "we will open the doors if you open your mind"

Smart move to get rid of the government advertising although straight after Neil Mitchell on 3AW finished the first ad that came up was one of the governments anti mining ads :D

Secondly Gillard went on the attack with the usual fear and smear campaign that all political parties use. "Stop the Liberals from Tearing Down Health reform, Tearing down Education and the show stopper " restoring work choices"

Im sure many an ALP member would have been very happy to hear her on message.

Re moving to the Lodge: "I am more than happy with my home in Altona and my flat in Canberra and don't feel the need to change that until I fulsomely earn the trust of the Australian public".

Abbott can't beat her. He won't even get close.

Medicare Gold.

Industrial Relations Failures.

BER.

They can go to town on her with those programs, I'm not sure if "I'm happy living in my flat," will outweight billions of dollars wasted on the BER.

you should brush up on negotiation & how it's conducted. The mining company don't want a fight for a fights sake. They want the best outcome.

They aren't simply fanboi's like some on here...

I agree.

And the outcome they are looking at right now isn't that. Gillard reiterated ALL the same arguments that Rudd & Swan have been running for the RSPT. She hasn't taken it off the table and said we will start again. She has simply decided to stop wasting our money on shit ads and she has committed to negotiation instead of consultation - what does that even mean?

The mining company don't want this RSPT. Negotiation happens before a deal to get the deal right, at present it's still a done deal where we are negotiation peripherals ....

To go quiet, trust this government and lose momentum would be a bad outcome. Why would mining companies trust this government to do the right thing?

Probably a good idea not to move in straight away, considering she will be replaced by Swan in the event the ALP win the election. Abbott hasn't got a hope and will have to be replaced before the election.

I expect both parties to take a major hit come election day and Australia to get scarily closer to a green parliament.

Are you deliberately being dim???

The govt has asked them to stop ads before - because they work.

Take the TAX off the table and start negotiations from scratch. They will stop campaigning.

But removing ads, leaving the tax in the budget numbers and stopping some ads is meaningless. It's politics and words....

The big three mining company's need to start behaving with a bit more class rather than come out with a load of garbage & half truths like they have been doing.

Whatever happened to the clown prince of the Billionaires club in Clive Palmer haven't seen or heard of him for weeks.

The mining companies "product" is no new mining tax.

They are winning the advertising war at present, so the loser wants to stop getting hurt.

The mining companies may need to refocus their ads BUT unlike governments they have no other platform for getting the message out.

Why give up their advantage in selling their product?

Mining co's would be crazy to back off.

They'd be wise to keep changing tack on the ads but they need to keep the pressure on.

I thought it was a very haphazard speech. Sounded insincere, forced and it wasn't half as graceful as Rudd was.

Briiliant. :thumbsu:

You aren't that sharp are you ....
If we're going on stereotypes, like you often like to, then what exactly is a middle aged white man doing in SE Asia? Either a pederast or some other form sex tourist.

Were you on 'Hey Dad!', perchance?

If you don't like it, leave. Oh wait, you have. Suck it up.

You Libs should be cheering anyway. Now we have a female PM, we can pay the position much less and save on taxes.

Mining companies need to hold fire until they have seen what sort of consultation is provided by Gillard and what level of flexibility can be achieved. It would be bad to continue on with the campaign that already got it's man. The issue is not dead - but there needs to be some short honeymoon period otherwise this will just garner additional support for Julia. Really - this will change the Oppositions tact for the election - they have in no circumstances been handed a gift here. Going to be challenging to break the polls if the election is called shortly unless Gillard drops the ball on the RPST.
Ken Henry should feel a little nervous.

The ads will stop.

If they don't, the ALP will simply say "Well we wanted to negotiate but they didn't want to come to the party."

I agree with everything you say on principle by the way.

Holding off the ads for one or two weeks isn't going to kill the campaign. If anything it might be a good move to freshen them up a bit.

Mate, if you could read you'd be aware that I am actually in Perth. I spend half my time in Asia because our business operates there. Pretty easy to grasp.

I mean do you have anything to contribute... At all .. To any thread... Ever?

I can read, thanks. It says 'BKK' and 'KL' in your location. You have a picture of a ladyboy in your avatar. What is one to surmise when you make this information so prominent?

I mean do you have anything to contribute... At all .. To any thread... Ever?
I sure do, do you? Or do you solely rely on superficial analysis of other posters to stabilise your pathetically weak points.

Never give a sucker an even break. The Govt ads were awful and were costing them votes, the mining industries were effective and hitting home. Gillard needs an out more than them, apply the pressure until she takes it off the table and agrees to start from scratch.

The mining industry did not start this, the ALP did.

Also they should demand Ken the wombat gets sacked also.

Wrong, the mining council first approached the government in regards to a profits based tax system with the one purpose of squeezing out a few more concessions from the Australian nation, then when they found out what was planned they started a circus of corner store meetings dressed up as ordinary workers & cried out with empty pockets pleading poverty until they were hoarse.

On the off chance that Abbett does win the next election he would be beholding to the Mining giants for years & make no mistake they will expect their rewards to the detriment of all working Australian families.

Ken Henry should be given a knighthood if it was at all possible.

I think if you read this thread and see my comments v your comments a reasonable person would confirm that I actually contribute something.

BKK & KL are offices + Singapore. I spend time in all of them. Surely you aren't so unworldly that you believe all of Asia is simply a brothel? Surely?

By the way, the ladyboy is very much a female. One of Thailands better known actresses...

Apologies if you were offended by it

Now, have you got anything AT ALL to say about the actual topic?
