Boo ABC and your stupid management layers. :thumbsd:

Always 2 sides to a story, why blame management ?.

Was Glenn getting like George Grisleguts, a bit out of control ?. Who knows, we may find the full story one day.

Anyway the ABC in Perth has people who can fill his role, Clint Wheeldon's offsider (name elludes me), is darn good.

Here's a conspiracy theory for you. On recent Saturday morning Sports Talk(?) programmes Glenn was highly critical of Colon Barnacle's approach to the new stadium development. WA boss of the ABC is Kim Jordon, a devout acolyte of the Liberal Party. Does 2+2= 4 or 5?
Anyway I didn't like Mitchell much but I must say he is a very good cricket commentator, if it's an accurate description of the game you want.

Corbin Middlemas.

Indeed. Also some good regional WA ABC footy callers going around, hopefully a few of them are considered for a move to at least WAFL coverage, if not brought straight up to the ABC AFL team. I've really liked how the ABC has been willing to try new footy media talent without jumping on the "EmmaQ/CaroW/SammyL" bulldust train. Having Marngrook on ABC2 even in the ACT and Queensland has been fantastic...

FWIW, I'd not be too surprised to see Glenno pop up at one or other of the various Chunnel Stokes (7) variants that will arise to deliver the next footy TV package, or alternatively become one of the "core" commentators for the Fox footy channel under the same new TV package. Probably after serving the basic 6-12 months out of commentary (though I'm told the ABC dares not impose such non-compete clauses on even its "star talent" as such clauses would breach their human rights??). Might well wind up doing some Olympics coverage too maybe, he seems to be across track and field and swimming??

Anyway, hope Glenno is back in some form, far from the worst caller of the game going around, and actually seems to have a fair bit of knowledge of both WAFL and VFL, and even knows a bit about ACTAFL and NTAFL.

Yes, Carlton/Claremont supporter.

Can't say I ever saw it that way, seemed to be a very professional commentator.

Would be many people more knowlegable about the game than he was.

Yea I tend to agree on both counts. He tends to lay the boot into any team that isn't doing well - Freo have been fairly ordinary over much of their time so maybe we've copped it more. More recently I've heard him lay into WC too.

As a footy commentator I reckon he's hugely over-rated. He's a good caller, knows his players in a basic sense and has a pulse for some of the lower leagues which is good, but his knowledge of the game more broadly is ordinary and, like most commentators, he's prone to follow the flavour of the month/sensationalist bend of the day. He's been involved in many other sports too and, except for Cricket where he's quite good, I'd say he's a solid serviceable commentator and that's about it.

Anyway, I don't have anything against him. Good luck to the guy and thanks for the service.

Interesting - either that's facetiousness in the extreme or we have poler opposite views. Couldn't stand to hear Bitchell commentate on footy. Fawned over WC but put the boot into us at every opportunity. Wasn't professional enough to even be concerned with appearing unbiased. Stooped to commentating on crowd sizes and movements but only when it suited him. Glad to see the back of him.

Rant over, but feel better now.

Yep, can't say I'll miss him.

I did not always agree with his views, but he is a fantastic sports journalist. Incredibly knowledgeable and balanced.

Fair enough, he got stuck into Fremantle for a number of reasons and we as a club often deserved it. In more recent times, he has criticised WC too. He is not a fence sitter and if he has an opinion on something, he espouses it which is/was his job.

His knowledge of a large number of sports is encyclopedic. He is a great cricket commentator and a very good inerviewer.

I am not sure what the ABC have in mind but they have nobody remotely close to his capability in WA. Corbin Middlemas is very good and getting better all the time though.

In terms of football commentating I never really heard him commentate Freo games as i dont bring a walkman to the footy. I dont really like his grandstand show but his work on the WAFL wasnt bad.
His work on the cricket though was brilliant, it has even got to the stage where I turn the channel 9 nuffies down and turn up the ABC. His work with skull inparticular was brilliant as was his deep knowledge of the game. I know cricket is his main sport so hopefully the ABC at least keep him on for the cricket.

Can't help thinking if the ABC keep him for the cricket, he and Karen will probably move to Sydney. I'm pretty sure that's where she is from.

The Oracle.

I've paid out on him uncountable amount of times listening to him for the last 20 odd years but I reckon he he sits pretty high as an ABC commentator.

Perth is better off with him than without him I reckon.
Good luck to him in wherever he goes.

You know your getting on a bit, when a bloke who has been calling since you learnt to talk calls it quits.. i always rated him.. although he wasnt up against a hell of alot.

Agree on the comments about Corbin Middlemass.. the next big thing i reckon.. we miss him on SportFM :D
