I think he finishes his qualifications at the end of this year.

Dunno if he'd be the right option though, we need someone experienced in charge. Plus, he wants a couple of years off anyway

Not sure where this sentiment is coming from that he'd automatically be a terrific manager either.

Souness, Alan Ball, Bryan Robson, Terry Butcher all wonderful players - abysmal managers.

Wenger, Eriksson and Mourinho all pretty much duds as players, very successful managers.

It's the worst job in football this one, mainly because of the unrealistic expectations of the supporters and the mismanagement of the people in charge. It needs a very strong character and Roeder probably wasn't the man. If Sam does get it, it will be interesting to see how he goes. I'm not sure he's the man to win them the trophies they desire, but I guess time will tell.

Would cost too much and not much better then Allardyce. I wouldnt be surprised if they gave the job to Shearer either in a similar way to which Southgate got the Boro job

I just thought of one person that I wouldnt mind coming back to the club.... Kevin Keegan.

The last time we were any good was under him, and he is passionate. Look at Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger, they are all outspoken and passionate. So is Keegan.

Sven shits all over Fat Sam.

His club record is nigh on brilliant.

Allardyce is just a tub of lard who has achieved 'success' similar to Peter Reid's time at Sunderland when he coaxed a limited side to the lofty heights of 5-8th using awful tactics.

I think you're being a tad harsh on him tactically as well.

Although not the best, I wouldnt go as far as saying he was tactically illiterate.

Said that KK used to just come in, put the teamsheet on the wall and say "let's go lads".

There was virtually no talk of tactics whatsoever.

He just picked a team and told them to go out and play football.

I noticed in the thread on Big Sams departure from Bolton that my praise for his fantastic record at Bolton was greeted with nothing but tumbleweed.

I think you're a little harsh on him. Apart from turning a CCC team into a regular top ten finisher on very little investment it's his attention to detail that makes him such a good manager. He puts a massive emphasis on sports science and was very big on it before it became common practice. Well, not quite as good as Sir Clive Woodward and his revolutionary eye gym where players apparently improve their reflexes. Clearly that's why we are in the playoffs. :o

If he gets the job it would be a very interesting partnership. It seems that playing attractive football at Newcastle is almost more important than winning. I reckon it's great that they demand an attacking style but perhaps Sam is exactly what the club need. If he does get the job I'd be very interested to see how he would go at a big club and with money to spend.

Anyway the talk of the toon is that we are days away from offering Sam Allardyce the job, with Mark Hughes, Steve McLaren, Juande Ramos and Sven Goran Erikksen being touted as outsiders.

Its interesting you should say this, because Allardyce has never been at a club with money, and neither had Souness.

The thing is, he is very good with a small budget, but unproven when has a decent sized budget. We would be far better off going for an experienced manager, who is experienced at a big club, and can handle the very unrealistic demands our fans put on their team.

Very interesting read:

Glenn Roeder's dreadful run of results ultimately proved his undoing and few would argue that he deserved to keep his job based on what was certainly relegation form over his final 16 games:

P16 W4 D5 L7 Pts 17

So why on earth would anyone even contemplate employing a manager whose form over the same 16 games reads:

P16 W4 D4 L8 Pts 16

So who is that manager? Could it be one of the relegated duo Aidy Boothroyd or Alan Pardew? No, it's Sam Allardyce - seemingly our next manager....
