Melbourne are deserved favourites. All though both teams have won 2 games, Melbourne has played against a higher level of opposition.

The Eagles have beaten Freo, who are nothing more then average, then lost to a below average Collingwood, then beat the bottom of the ladder Doggies.

Hardly compares to the Dee's form, having beaten two sides who are expected to challenge for the premiership.

I honestly think both sides are playing above themselves, so imho it will be a tight game with the Dees winning by 15.

I don't get why we have to play at Optus, since it's Melbourne's home ground is the MCG (or at least when I went to a Melbourne vs Geelong game in 1993 (?) it was definately at the MCG).

Yes our home ground is the MCG. We are only playing at Optus thanks to the f*cking AFL and Carlton, who decided they wanted to play more games at our home ground (the MCG). It is basically allot of bullsh*t.

Stand up for your rights mate! If anyone should be playing at Optus, it should be Carlton since thats where they are based and have their offices and clubrooms. This situation would be like us having to play a home game at Fremantle Oval!

The club has a meeting with the AFL on Monday over this. Too late to change the draw now obviously but hopefully playing home games away from the G won't happen in future.

The MFC have been playing there since 1858, we built the bloody ground!

Makes sense to me. Optus will be a crapload cheaper for the Dees to play at, and there will be a lot less wasted seating capacity. The Victorian end of the AFL needs to seriously consider using two or three smaller grounds like Optus to help the weaker clubs limit their costs, particularly at low-attendance games.

The ironic thing is that Melbourne seem to stand to lose more money if the game is played at Princes Park, theres an article on afl.com.au

That's what their CEO (or whoever he was) says at least. He said that it would get 25,000 at the G which is complete rubbish - Melb v Port got 19,000 and I couldn't see this game getting more at the G.

Anyway, the costs at Optus are way cheaper than the G or Colonial, so you don't need to attract such a high crowd. I would say Melbourne would make a loss no matter where they played this game if it is believed they will lose at Optus.
