I believe to determine what Pick 5 would need for a trade, we should look for equivalent trades made in prior years that come close to the Pick value:

- 2016: Dion Prestia (24yo) to Richmond for Pick 6 (and swap of 2nds)
- 2017: Charlie Cameron (23yo) to Brisbane for Pick 12 (what a bloody steal)
- 2017: Lachie Weller (22yo) (plus 3rd rounder) to Gold Coast for Pick 2
- 2018: Lachie Neale (25yo) to Brisbane for Pick 6 (plus 2nd rounder & swap of 3rds)
- 2020: Adam Saad (25yo) to Carlton for Pick 8 (plus couple of later picks swapped).

Can't remember any other recent examples, and of course, each deal was squeezed one way or the other due to circumstances (i.e. Dion wanted to leave GCS, Weller was vocal about joining GCS so they were desperate to do the deal, Saad wanted to leave badly etc.).

However, there are some trends for each of them:
- 25yo or younger;
- Most were either elite in one or two areas, or showed they were close to tipping into elite territory for certain categories (speed, disposals, etc.). Most were hitting or verging on elite status, but were still developing;
- Most were between 50 - 100 games;
- Most were still desired by their club and who's hands were forced (except maybe Weller, where Freo bent GCS over a barrel);
- Most seemed to fill a role of either high accumulator midfielder or high impact/high speed foward/backman.

I would imagine, for Pick 5, you would need to entertain a similar type of profile.

There are only two factors I can see, that may change:
- [Need for experience] GCS have cited a need for experience & leadership which would push the desired age closer to 25, rather than 21. So that may push the age up to 24-26?
- [Difficulty Bargaining] GCS have low bargaining power as players are resistant to moving up there and clubs know it. They will likely have to pay overs as compared to a Melbourne club (see Weller for example).

Pulling some random players from those age ranges who would fit that quota (obviously ignoring contract status, desire to move) to get an idea for player profile: Toby McLean, Matt Crouch, Brayden Maynard, Charlie Curnow, Ben Keays. It's hard - trying to find players on the verge, but not completely elite (moreso, as with experience, less potential and more proven talent - so might be giving too valuable players).

Again, names above are not indicitative of likely transfers. More trying to carve a picture/feel of what it COULD look like. Up to you guys to figure out what trade from the profile above would be realistic.

A perfect player which will never happen is Tim English 23 year old ruck/forward yet to fully break out

Do Richmond fans really feel the era is over? If so package up some solid B Grade role players into a deal for something including pick 5.

Cash in now while they're 26-29. Like what Hawthorn should've done with theirs.

Would be one of the most untouchable players on the Dogs list, but so have many players in the past that have ended up moving clubs. On a related note, his girlfriend is (was?) contracted with a netball team in Queensland, so it's not like it's entirely out of the question for the Suns to make a big play. Again, incredibly unlikely he'd leave but crazier things have happened

Pick 5 for Jordan De Goey?
GC need leadership and to build their culture so De Goey shouldn't be an option even if it was a more realistic pick like 19.

Gold Coast seems to do better with players traded in than they do via the draft, so it's worth exploring, but it'd have to include something else of more value than a couple of B-graders.

Like I'm thinking Tom Lynch trade, which involved a cheap side deal for a couple of B-graders along with the FA compensation pick, except Richmond get Pick 5 instead of Lynch.

Well I did say package them up so I'm not suggesting a couple alone gets it done.

B Grade players aren't spuds or shit. They're good regular senior players, players you can name and be sure they'll turn up each week.

If the GC can get say 3 of those and then maybe another speculative player off Richmond it's not the worst deal for pick 5.

GC don't need anymore star players, they have star power in their youth, one more won't change the balance. Reliable good players will.

B-graders as in... Jake Melksham (traded for pick 25) and Michael Hibberd (+59 traded for 29+68) sorta thing?

The something else could be in the form of a pick as well.

(Also I should revise my earlier statement: Miles and Ellis didn't work out all that well for Gold Coast, they played 17 and 4 games respectively before retiring. Perhaps they were not B-graders).
