Had a very interrupted pre season, so really had no fitness coming into the season.

Then broke his nose and hurt his knee against brisbane, which didnt help his cause to find form or fitness for that matter, played against north looked totally lost and has sturggled to get his fitness playing vfl form

Yeah....but it looks like something else too Opti. Having seen all his VFL games, and seen him in the rooms, I get a sense, nothing more, that he aint happy with the world. Of course it could be just his form getting him down but he's just playing so uncharacteristically - no throwing himself at the contest, no diving for the pill, no reckless abandon. I'm wondering whether that busted nose hit also knocked his confidence around a bit. He's really only a very skinny kid after all and who knows how much he really got hurt?

Sounds like the reports of him when he was drafted. A lot of people saw him as a much more outside wing type when drafted IIRC. Maybe he got a bit ahead of himself, maybe it was the knock.

FWIW I really don't think Goldsack's first year form will translate into future stardom. Much like Westhoff I think Goldy came in as developed as he will get and at best will be a Maxwell MK2 which in reality is Jason Cloke MK3. I hope I am wrong though

i would say that we have to many defenders of his size....
JA, GOldy, Obrien,maxy...Hasnt been playing well enough to warrant his position im guessing...

Will bounce back is a great player i really rate him

seriously though goldsack should definately be ahead of maxwell, but because max is in the leadersihp group and has been around longer and goldsack is in his second year, it makes sense to leave him out to play in the 2's for a while...

he has so much upside to him i cant wait for him to get back. really he has become one of my favourite magpies (ok the truth is they're all my favourite lol)

Yes it can be very difficult to get over a bad collilsion injury - might take a while to overcome his body's automatic fear/recoil reaction to avoid collisions. I used to ride a motorbike like a maniac, wahs great fun until I had a nasty accident due to an idiot driver. AFter that it wasn't much fun and I rode a lot more carefully and with a lot of fear. Good lesson on the road, butr in footy you are required to get back to the reckless attack, this time with the memory of what it's like to get a bad injury and the long painful recovery that was involved. Maybe I'm wrong and this isn't a factor with Goldsack, but anyway he'll be a great player and just has to get back into form - I think he'll be playing great footy again this season and will be important in the finals.

i dont know in the highlights clip of the vfl game last weekend there was one goldsack moment where he recklessly lunged at th eball and put his body on the line in typical goldy fashion

its been said to death but vfl and afl are worlds apart and players can be made to look so ordinary playing in the vfl, and they're different players on the big stage.

That's bad news. Hopefully he can rebound. He has so much talent, but confidence counts for an awful lot. Being in the VFL would be depressing him, particularly the way they've been playing. This could be his make or break year. He has to want his AFL career enough to go after it with gusto.
