There's been all this talk about Freo being the #1 Defensive team in the league, often putting extra numbers (i.e. more than one) behind the ball and simply stifling your ability to score. Well, to a greater or lesser extent, Neil Craig used to "sort of" employ this tactic by putting extra numbers behind the ball, then attempt to run the ball out when it spilled to ground.

Never had I seen a team counter this ploy better than West Coast years ago. When their Midfielders had the ball and were running Forward, instead of bombing the ball into their Forward Line (where we had extra numbers simply waiting for the crumbs)....the West Coast Midfielders simple would retain possession, continue running forwards, then kick goals themselves. This left the Crows Defenders and Midfielders clogging up the West Coast Forward Line scratching their heads, wondering what to do. Eventually they realised that they had to run out of Defence and try to disposses the West Coast ball carriers - something they were completely unfamiliar with (and had almost no ability to do).

I just can't work out why the Crows don't at least TRY this tactic? If the opposition is ultra-defensive and drops extra numbers back, just don't bl00dy well kick it to them. Simple. Hang onto it and keep running forward til you can take a shot yourself; force the opposition Defenders to come out of Defence to get the Pill. If you get caught holding the ball, big deal; at least the opposition doesn't get a quick turnover and rebound or "slighshot" (something that's been burning us the entire bl00dy season ). The only thing I can think of is that the Crows simply can't "take on" (dodge) opposition Midfielders/Defenders and get past them, as I've mentioned previously. Well, they damn well need to learn. NOW.

By no means is this the be-all, end-all of the Crows problems. In fact far from it. But I have hardly seen any Crows players been able to get around front-on opponents in open play. Completely and utterly incapable of this . Don't look for a bl00dy team mate to kick/handball sideways too (a couple metres away, with an opponent right on his hammer); get around the opponent in front of you! Just refuse to give the ball up unless the Umpire blows his whistle. Make it an utter nightmare for opponents to dispossess you of the Pill when you've running Forward.

To the Freo fans dropping by, firstly thanks for making the effort.

Secondly, well done on your win and good luck for the remainder of the season.

Thirdly, the performances the last two weeks must have you deeply worried about your September prospects. I thought you were a lot better team than the one we've seen recently. We are terrible and were before Walker, Dangerfield and Rutten were injured. And Richmond are making up the numbers in September.

We know first hand how important it is to win something significant before your ageing stars retire. We didn't and it has set our club back 10 years. You'd want to win it this year. Look at St Kilda. Hopefully the last 2 weeks are merely anomalies.

If Sandi retired this season, our ruck stocks are covered, Our key forward and Key back stocks are not hence this years draft is important for freo....

Freo were not terrible against you mob, Far from it, we are efficient. Losing Pav and Mcpharlin wont set Freo back 10 years. It will how ever drop us a couple of places down the ladder. With Freo current squad, I expect them to still make finals when the big 3 are retired in 2014...

Yeah, we thought that as well when McLeod, Goodwin, Edwards were being overtaken by our exciting batch of new young players like Knights, Mackay, Vince, Tippett...

Next year teams invest a bit of time in the likes of Walters, instead of nothing. They sit someone on Ibbotson. The 'free ride' they are getting this year disappears.

Also played Tarberner in his 4th game. Tanner Smith who is a key defender would of played this week but is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Year before that We got Sheridan, Crozier, Neale and Sutcliffe, Dawson and Lee Spurr and they have contributed well this season too.

KPPs will take a good 2-3 years at least. But im very confident Tanner Smith will be a good defender by 2015 when McPharlin is Already retired.

Then again, freo have done well in getting mature aged players, I would like to see freo get a mature aged forward.
