Having Butts as our only tall was a mistake ....an 8 game Defender, with no options available should he be beaten on the day

Clearly getting Thilthorpe and Berg in for development was preferred over the "win"

Only 3 players have had me swearing at the TV in the last few weeks ......ROB, Hamill, and McPherson

ROB is lacking that fierce competitive side of his game, consequently he's missing those pack marks, and his opponents have been exposing him ......gotta get his head back into the game

Hamill, just keeps missing targets and turning the ball over .......incredibly frustrating

McPherson looks slow and has no impact ....tackling poor, and you'd be excused for not thinking he's playing

That's two of our HBF's stinking it up

On the plus side, good to see Seedsman playing well, Schoenberg is going to be a player ......and Berg is still a much better longterm solution to Frampton as a FWD
So you have been happy with McAdam's last 2 weeks?

Rowe going OK...

Certainly not my top-3 players I have been annoyed at.

A lot of players flashing in and out of games .... McAdam down, but finding his redefined role with 3 tall KPF’s

Rowe doesn’t frustrate me because i don’t have high expectations of him

McAdam has been rubbish for 2 weeks... playing behind his man. His opponent was one of Freo's best last week.

Frampton was ordinary last week.

Lynch should not even be playing injured.

ROB at least holding his own & contributing.

Hamill has been OK too.

We all see it differently...

Wish I could believe this. Hope you’re right
IMHO i think the club is trying to instill a bit more urgency into his game ..... particularly defensively

He’ll always have that larconic look about him, due to his gait

McAdam has been awful.
His first 3 quarters against North were atrocious. He miraculously remembered to lead in the last quarter when we had all the play and kicked 3 quick goals.
Against Fremantle he was non-existent. He got a goal thanks to Tex handing it off, but did bugger all else. Constantly standing behind his man, either looking for the speccy or the out the back goal.
To the surprise of no-one who watched those two weeks, he did nothing again this week. Stood behind his man. Didn't chase. Looked for the easy kicks.

It's such a shame as he has some serious talent. He might just need a reminder that you have to keep earning your place in the team.

Can we also speak to him about the 'injuries'? Mate a small knock is not an injury. Suck it up and get on with it. I swear he breaks a fingernail and writhes around for 10 minutes. Maybe he could chat to Sloane about how to play through pain?

I wouldn't be against dropping him when we bring Berry back in. We are tall enough and don't need another marking player.

This was the critical thing for me. I just couldn't understand it.
Over and over again we kicked the ball long to the right - but didn't manage to get a single one of our bigs under the ball. We had ROB, Walker, Thilthorpe and Himmelberg on the field. Could we not find one of them??

Do we have a plan if 'long to the right' (which seems to be part of our DNA) doesn't work? Could we not signal, get ROB sprinting to the centre or *shock* even the left and have our mids sprint there as well? It's so crazy, it just might work.

It feels like when we kick in, our opponents have a better idea as to where the ball is going than we do. You could see our guys looking for anything other than 'long to the right', but finding zero options. Surely we can have a second plan??
Well, we have the highest percentage of goals from defense vs stoppages in the league this season, our ball movement is tracking just fine. That wind on the weekend was not easy to kick against and made it very hard for both teams to transition. A lack of composure with so many inexperienced players and key leaders missing cost us in that last quarter, yet we still probably should’ve won.

I love couch experts that comment on the injuries of guys playing a game like afl and think they’re being soft 🙄. McAdam went off with a shoulder early against North and yet still played out the game after some treatment, is that soft? Has rolled an ankle in a couple of games and managed to play the game out, is that soft? I don’t think he’s in great form, but you hardly see him complaining about these injuries on the field.

So you'd prefer to keep Rowe and drop McAdam ? .......uh huh

McAdam is playing a difficult role as the 4th go to fwd .....he was better when we had him and Tex as the two main fwd's , with Frampton acting as the stobie pole

He's undoubtedly playing sore ....but also having to learn to gel with a 3 x tall KPF forward line

I put this on another thread without comment.
A close watching of the highlights from Sunday's match reveals some interesting observations on the "under-pressure small forwards" that are partly in contrast to our overall impressions.

It turns out that Murphy, Macdam, and McHenry had significant presences in our best scoring chains, more influential than we might have thought: I would not drop any of them. On the other hand, Rowe was completely invisible, in agreement with the general perception. If anyone is to be dropped, it should be him, based on the evidence.

1) McAdam has been rubbish for 2 weeks... playing behind his man.
2) We all see it differently...
2) I wish more posters would allow for this and temper their reactions accordingly.
1) McAdam plays behind because it maximises his chances of taking that MotY speccy. Getting that nomination early (Round One?) seems to have made MotY his focus. If he's injured, rest him.
Fwiw, I like Rowe's passion but thought he was invisible vs Hawthorn.

A couple of queries on your post:

I don't understand what this means. Goals transitioning from defence? Goals from stoppages? Goals from defensive stoppages?? What does it mean?

It really did. Especially the wind turning in the last quarter. Surely after the 5th kick out fell short and in to the arms of a Hawthorn opponent for another uncontested mark, we should have tried something else though?

Strongly disagree with this. He is constantly 'injured' on field and showing it, yet is able to play out every game.
Either he is made of incredibly strong stuff, has serious injuries every week and is able to play through them, or he gets minor injuries that he overreacts to.

I think it is the latter.

Maybe I'm being too harsh on McAdam, but from what I see, he is not leading, not working hard and offering very little.
He was one of my absolute favourites last year, so I'd like to see him back to his best, but I feel like he has been well below it this year.

McAdam is playing from behind way too much. We all can see it so surely the coaches do too. Question will be whether we see any improvement in the next week or two.

McAdam is the type of player we seem to struggle with as a club. That enigmatic, wildly inconsistent type who can do nothing all game and then bob up and kick three quick goals to win you the match.

Historically we seem to judge these guys for what they don't do, and move them on in favour of the Wright/Murphy types that we know will provide a certain level of output each week (even if it isn't great).

These types also have a habit of playing well against us.

We score the most goals from our defensive 50 vs stoppages ie not necessarily number one in the former, but have the highest ratio of scores from D50 vs stoppages.

Agree on your 2nd point, but that’s where we are lacking some leaders, especially Talia and Sloane.
