A good second half from the Blues, fought back well which is agood sign for the future showed a lot of maturity especially the young boys. More than happy with a 15 point loss in WA with the bias umpiring. Well done Young Men:thumbsu:

Beat them 11 goals to 8 after quarter time, pity about the first quarter

Don't want to be a whinger but can i just mention that umpiring was just pathetic? That's it, move on.

On to the game, it was pretty weak effort by the boys in the first quarter and. subsequently, the first half. It felt Freo tired after half time and we came back but still a lot of skill errors and those little things weren't right. We just broke up at the half forward line constantly, had no one except Fevola to kick our goals, Fisher maybe more important to the team than others realise. We lacked another forward. Poor decision making at times also.

But good to see us within 3 goals of them at the conclusion of the match, I thought Fev and Lance were super. One thing I noticed that Fev looked extremely disappointed at the end of the match, even though he had a great game, he was lamenting the loss for the team, good to see.

Onto next week boys, not disgraced at all!

We should have won.

Umpiring was probably the worst I have seen, particularly by one umpire... he looked a bit disbaled, he was number 30 something and he gave me the ********s right throughout the night.

He would pay the softest frees, like when Scotland and some other goose was in a push and shove he gave a free kick to Freo.

That umpire should be sacked immediately.

Nevertheless, we fought the game out, over the past few years we would have lost by 70 points and I thought we would at half time.

Bring on Sydney.

EXACTLY! I thought I was maybe looking too much into it but you noticed it too!

That ******* looking umpire really had something against the Blues.

I am disapointed we lost and thought we really had a chance, first qtr let us down but was very pleased we didn't give up at any stage.

Fev was sensational.

Umpire was ********house, I have never seen a deliberate out of bounds when the ball is kicked 50metres (the Whitnall one)

Waite & De Luca needed to do more.

Why did Fev have 2 opponents on him all night? Still did well to often beat them both though!

You obviously haven't seen much football.

only a ****** would consider the free against whitnall as legitimate ...even the biased braindead West Australian commentators thought it was a joke

Thats what I was about to say.

Another Freo fan on the Game day thread tried to tell me Farmers blatant throw in the forward pocket was a nice 'tap back into play'.

I seem to recall one of the Brisbane Scott boys being free kicked for kicking the ball along the boundary once. Not sure that it went 50 metres (or more) and his intention was probably there.

With Lance, he had the mark so wasn't rushed and had zero reason to kick the ball out of bounds. Just stuffed it up.

Perhaps I should assume you are not trying to be smart with your comment and have seen 50 metre plus kicks (upfield) being penalised regularly. Maybe you can share some of your vast football watching experiences in this regard?
------------------------

As far as umpiring goes, I thought we copped a few weird ones but I thought we got a few evener uppers, including that out of bounds on the full when Pavlich marked it inside the boundary.

I won't blame the umpiring at all. Fact is our midfield was not good early. Stevens and Scotland were ordinary the whole game. Bentick and Simpson took time to get into the game. Kouta got plenty of ball and battled but not too many possessions were telling. We got little drive from our backline in the first half with Lappin having to account for an opponent. Whitnall did his part in the second half and Walker did his part all night.

If Freo had not have reverted to their stuff around with the ball game plan, they would have been too polished and wiped us by 10 goals.

hawthorn's sam mitchell at the gabba got pinged after his 50m kick bounced out of bounds.

Was it a kick from a set play, i.e from a mark or a free kick? I can understand if someone kicks a ball along the boundary to nobody in particular and it goes out, the intent is probably there. But from a kick after a mark in the goal square, to see a ball go off the side of the boot and go out 60 metres away, it was pretty ludicrous. Lance had time to find an option as he wasn't in a play on situation.

Hope we see this one on WLF this week. I'd also like to hear the umpires say that they got it wrong.

how many freo goals were given to them a few of their free kicks shouldn;t been paid some were absolute Rubbish soft frees like farmer having a winge now that free to the blues was a correct call :) ut some of freo' frees were soft

6PR said that the DVD showed that if you kick it towards the boundry where no-one else is near the ball its delebrate out of bounds. Personally I think the free kick was a joke.

As for the free kick situation. The count was in your favour and it also allowed you to get more goals from the situation.

Goals from free kicks:
Carlton 3
Fremantle 2

Goals from Marks:
Fremantle 8
Carlton 6

Fair call, and OLd Dark Navy's analysis was pretty spot on. If Freo weren't such a rabble they coulda pumped us by 10-15 goals, our midfield was well and truly smashed last night.

Absolutely. Had very little impact on the game and we got thrashed in the centre square clearances.

any opinions on marc murphys 2nd game?

Certainly wasn't our worse player, that's for sure. Made some mistakes, but his vision, balance, decision making and disposal was all good. Has all the hallmarks of a 200+ player stamped all over him.

Not as good as the week before, but you can't expect that.

A great learning curve playing on the bigger ground and how to cope with it.

Dropped a sitter mark, but will learn of course.

Couldn't really expect much more.
