I think if we lose this week its not all bad news.

I think we really need a loss, so we can really have the fire in the belly come finals and if we have a weakness, that it is exposed this week so we can correct it, rather than cruise into finals and have a weakness spotted out.

Im worried that we might not be as sharp as we could by September.

Thoughts...

I don't buy into the "need to have a loss" theory.

A loss may expose weaknesses, but a victory can expose them just as much. And Neil Craig will be able to pick up any deficiencies through training, matches ect, not just through a loss.

That's crap! We don't need a loss to address weaknesses in our gameplan. Neil Craig and his team have always said that there's always room for improvement whether we win or lose a game. We don't need a loss to justify our weaknesses. We are far from the perfect team in the competition and as long as the crows do not become complacent we should try and continue this winning form right till the end if we get there.

Right now essendon are on a losing streak and you'd think they'll learn something from their losses. Losing proves nothing unless you want to earn the no.1 draft pick later in the season.

**** those west coast supporters and their "we will NOT lose because we are like so much better than you" attitude.
do NOT want to lose this one!

.. plus, payback for earlier this season...

I can tell you that the general feeling amongst west coast supporters is that the crows will win this one easily. If you hadn't noticed, the eagles form has been dreadful, the midfield is in a slump, and we're missing key playmakers (Hunter, Cox, Embley, Fletcher, Nicoski etc.) that have messed up our structure and exposed our lack of depth in certain areas. So this game, against the form side of the competition, couldn't have come at a worse time. If ever there was a time when the Eagles were ripe for the picking, it's now. I don't know of a single eagles fan who's backing us to win against you, given our present state. Seems like the early season win against you guys belongs to an earlier, happier time...

As an Eagles supporter, all I ask of the Crows is that they don't let up after this game. Make sure you beat the Demons, Pies and the Dogs at least - they're our nearest rivals for second spot :D (which we might be giving up after this week:()

Indeed.

Ask West Coast fans how much a late season loss to Fitzroy helped them in 1991.

I dont buy into that rubbish that Fitzroy cost the Eagles the 1991 flag. West Coast lost their home final against Hawthorn, remember Hawthorn were a finals hardned side and had a number of experienced premiership players (guys like Ayres, Tuck, Dunstall, Platten etc) and was right at the end of the Hawks premership window. The Eagles did end up winning through to the GF, but were once again exposed by the more mature and experienced Hawthorn side.

Even if they had of beaten Fitzroy I dont think it would have made the slightest bit of difference. West Coast needed the experience from those 91 loses against the Hawks to give them the hunger, experience and motivation that got them the flags in 92 and 94.

i think there is some weight to the "need to have a loss" theory, but i don't think a loss against WCE is a good thing, considering they've already beaten us once this year. That doesn't help the psychology of the team at all if we have to play them during the finals.

I wouldn't be heartbroken if we lost to WCE at Subi - IF the Weagles were at full strength. As it is, it's a game we can (even should) win.

I have to say though - and yes, I know it's a bit dumb - but I don't like long winning streaks. If we don't lose another game we'll be going into the finals on a - what - 14-game streak and it woud have to be 17 in a row to win the GF. I won't mind dropping a game between now and September.

I agree that it's become a should win game.

I love long winning streaks. Especially when we're winning. ;)

Brisbane won 16 in a row including the GF in 2001.
Carlton won 16 in a row including the GF in 1995.

Great sides can do it.

The extra hard training we are doing may weaken the legs late in the last quarter. Hopefully by then we will be so far in front we can afford to give them some nothing goals.
I don't buy the 'loss is good for you' theory either. Win every one between now and the end!

no such thing
Exactly.

Contemplating losing this week is a poor mentality.

Winning form is good form. Nothing wrong with winning streaks!

Bingo. Lets keep winning and make it 17 in a row. Lets look at the remaining games:-

West Coast - need to beat them otherwise they may have physcological advantage
Collingwood - hate them so we have to beat them plus their soft draw. Want to show who is the boss and still have 2002 PF in the mind
Fremantle - ahh, should have no chance of beating us but then again a Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde side
Bulldogs - another win against a side that has recurring nightmares against us on the "G"
Port - don't need a reason to beat them. If we do then just to balance the ledger
Melbourne - don't travel well and shocking record at AAMI

Neil Craig was asked a similar question tonight , basically '' how important is this game''

A: '' Every game is important , you dont try and fool with form you go out and play the game thats in front of you''
